The sweeping, dazzling music that fueled Star Wars will be reissued by Sony Classical in three new, definitive editions — Star Wars: The Ultimate Vinyl Collection, Star Wars: The Ultimate Soundtrack Edition, and Star Wars: The Ultimate Digital Collection. All composed by John Williams, these unique collector’s sets will be released worldwide January 8, 2016.

. Star Wars: The Ultimate Vinyl Collection includes each of the six film soundtracks in deluxe gatefold sleeves faithfully replicating the original artwork.

. Star Wars: The Ultimate Soundtrack Edition includes the original six soundtracks in mini-album jackets, plus a bonus CD featuring audio interviews with Harrison Ford and John Williams. Also included is the DVD Star Wars: A Musical Journey, a one-hour special highlighting select musical themes alongside key sequences from the films. Rounding out the set are a fold-out poster and three collectible stickers.

. Star Wars: The Ultimate Digital Collection features a bundle of the six original soundtracks available for the first time as high-definition downloads.

Surely the OT will be the 1997 presentations, while the prequels will be the OSTs. The only thing one could hope is that they're giving the OT a new mastering, but I'm doubtful.

I'm sure one of their work experience kids will run it through an "enhance" filter in Windows Movie Maker.

According to Amazon.com tracklist, both the OT and the prequels will be the OSTs, at least in the vinyl boxset:

Star Wars: The Ultimate Vinyl Collection includes each of the six film soundtracks from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace to Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi in deluxe gatefold sleeves faithfully replicating the original artwork. Audio was transferred from the original LP masters using the highest resolution (up to 192kHz/24bit) and pressed with heavy 180gram vinyl. The six soundtrack set (on 11 LPs) is presented in a black, soft-touch laminated slipcase with an embossed, hot silver foil Star Wars logo and includes a digital download card for one complete box set (all six soundtracks).

Yep. They already did that with the 2007 box-set, which included the 1997 versions in mini-album jackets replicating the original artwork. But I find it weird (and misleading) to release two different vinyl albums for each score in the OT with identical artwork but different content.

Why use the original trilogy OST covers with the 1997 assemblies?

Because it's Sony.

Actually the CD boxset version looks like will be the just the remastered OSTs too (9 CDs and 1 DVD)

Star Wars: The Ultimate Soundtrack Collection includes the original six soundtracks in mini album jackets on 9 CDs, plus a bonus CD featuring a new audio interview with Harrison Ford (Han Solo) alongside an interview with John Williams. Also included is the DVD Star Wars: A Musical Journey, a one hour special hosted by actor Ian McDiarmid (Chancellor Palpatine) highlighting select musical themes alongside key sequences from the films. Rounding out the set are a fold-out poster and three collectable stickers.

The amazon tracklist bags to differ.

If true then this would be the first time that the OST for TESB is released in any format apart from LP.

Actually the CD boxset version looks like will be the just the remastered OSTs too (9 CDs and 1 DVD)

Now that is good news! :)

Superman wouldn't have fit one disc either...

Superman was released as a single CD, even though it's almost 78 minutes.

But it was also released on CD with two tracks committed, because they wouldn't fit a single CD (according to the liners)

Of course.

That's what I was getting at.

Stefan, the original 2LP sets of Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back EASILY fit onto 1 CD.

Star Wars 2LP was 74 minutes and TESB was 74 1/2.

It seems they're replicating the LP configurations for the CD boxset as well.

Not in the case of TESB...

1. The Asteroid Field

2. The City in the Clouds

3. Rebels at Bay

4. Yoda and the Force

5. The Duel

6. The Magic Tree

7. Lando's Palace

8. Finale

9. The Battle in the Snow

So you reckon they will release the OST's on vinyl, and the SE's on CD?

What will be the download version though? The SE's weren't mastered at high res, so...

The three releases will feature identical content. Most likely it will be the OSTs and not the SEs. And the Amazon track lists are incomplete/mixed-up.

The Amazon listing says 10 CDs + 1 DVD, not 9CDs + 1 DVD.

2 CD sets for OT = 6, 1 CD for PT = 3, interview disc = 1, ROTS dvd = 1
