michael_grig 472
I asked a score copyist who worked on the Sequel Trilogy (he put together the leaked TFA document) about the confusing situation with the TROS score and sheet music (we only have very few cues available) yesterday: Does this mean there is a LTP score for TFA, TLJ and TROS???????? TownerFan 4,983
I think the overall practice on all three sequel scores was to conform the scores to the final version of the movie exactly for the live-to-picture purposes, so that includes also VIII and IX, I suppose. This is something Disney is asking to the music service right from the get-go since a few years, as they have their own Disney Concerts company that manages these film with orchestra events, so they need to have everything ready. I think TLJ was peformed once in Australia before the pandemic exploded, am I correct? ragoz350
SyncMan 314
The LTP concerts of TFA and TLJ exist. The LTP concert of TFA premiered in New York City, NY on October 6th, 2016. Coursey of the website, Movies in Concert, here is a list of venues that are playing that in the future. The Toronto Symphony Orchestra will be doing it this May. https://www.tso.ca/concerts-and-events/events/star-wars-the-last-jedi-in-concert/ 8 hours ago, TownerFan said: I think TLJ was peformed once in Australia before the pandemic exploded, am I correct? The Toronto Symphony Orchestra is the second orchestra that will be doing it. I haven't heard anything about the LTP for TROS. The image-logo for that would be seen at the 'Disney Concerts' website. Not to my knowledge, though I'd love for the MSO to program it. I'm only aware of it premiering I'm Tokyo, conducted by MSO regular Nicholas Buc (who co-hosts the Art of the Score podcast). 49 minutes ago, Michael Grigorowitsch said: Does this mean there is a LTP score for TFA, TLJ and TROS???????? Well we knew about TFA and TLJ as they've been performed. Given the rushed production and COVID sweeping the world barely a few weeks after TROS was released, I'm surprised an LTP was still prepared. Interested to see if any orchestras pick it up or opt for more concerts with the, errr, more popular films.

Come to think of it, it's not unlikely that they did that when they were preparing the score for the recording, because they probably learned from the original trilogy that it's a pain to go back to the original scores and adapt them to the film, with all the tempos and so on. So they probably did it directly, but Disney just hasn't come around the corner with TROS yet, for unknown reasons (the movie's recognition, probably). I asked this score copyist specifically about TROS, and he immediately mentioned the LTP score, so JKMS probably at least sent the LTP score to Disney, what happens to it then is more the mysterious thing.... I agree with that. Just a theory, but it might be that the LTP concert-rental for TROS is already created, and that Disney-Concerts may be making it known to their clients--the orchestras that have been using their rentals over the years--before going public. I’m basing this on my observing the bookings of 2 other Disney-Concerts LTP rentals— ‘Black Panther’ and ‘Hocus Pocus’. I’ve noticed orchestras booking those two, but I’ve not seen the image-logo of these concerts in Disney-Concerts’ website. It was after some months have passed shortly before the first performances of these concerts that their image-logos began appearing in the renter's website. Where I am, in the USA, the orchestra-concert season—covering September through August-- has started so the content for most of the orchestras’ schedules are finalized. No orchestras there, or anywhere—according to the Movies in Concert website—is doing TROS. If my theory is true, orchestras that may be interested in booking the TROS-LTP for the 2023-24 season may show up in their schedules during the first quarter of 2023. The first schedule I would look at in 2023 is from the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, since they’ll be doing TLJ this May.
bruckhorn 105
I concur. The Eugene Symphony did Star Wars one year, Empire the next, and had Jedi slated for 2020. They'll be doing Jedi in Feb. Some concerts are planned years in advance to line up a specific soloist or conductor (one can work with multiple orchestras). With all of the extra gear needed for the LTP concerts (and people working the sound mixer et al), multiple orchestras are surely working on locking down dates, but won't announce them until the entire season's slate is announced (Apr-May in the US).
