When the guy played these melody lines on the piano I realised what it is: A finger exercise. Something that you play to warm up your hands before you play a real piece.

Many etudes have become popular and are being performed in concerts. Plus he's playing them solo on a keyboard, whereas the original has a string ensemble, which is of course a different thing.
