"ET" To Phone Home...Again

Drew Barrymore and director Steven Spielberg are in talks to make a sequel to the 1982 Hollywood classic "ET: The Extraterrestrial" reports WENN.

Barrymore is apparently anxious to resume her role as Gertie Elliot, but only if Spielberg, who directed the first film, agrees to oversee the project. According to reports the sequel will see ET return to a now grown-up Gertie, desperate for help saving his family from extinction.

"Drew has spoken to Steven about it," a Hollywood insider said. "Although he thought she was joking at first, he's actually giving it serious thought. Drew thinks the world needs another feelgood movie like ET right now and she's prepared to work with Steven to make it happen."

Speaks for itself.

Prays to Yahweh it it isn't true......

That article is as valid as a wooden quarter.

Gertie Elliott... If that were the real last name of the family it would make Elliott's parents plain unintelligent.

My friend and I wrote an E.T. 2 rough draft in high school. It involved E.T.'s return while Eliott was a succesful porno producer. The end involved E.T. and Eliott escpaing on a flying bike only to get pulled into the engine of an airplane. We wrote this well before the "Sherry Bobbins" episode of The Simpsons.

I had to say this on another forum too:

Steven S. made a contract with Universal that no sequal to ET could or would ever be made.

Another thing, that is not the characters name! It is just Gertie. There is no last name listed to my knowledge.

Also, I'm sure this is someone trying to get public eyes back on steven whom many say has "unfortunately left feel good movies behind." The idea of him goig back now to that genre and making one is absurd.

there. I can tell you with 100% accuracy this isn't real.

- Are we even going to see E.T. again?

- I'm sure we will, honey, I'm sure we will...

Exactly what I was thinking.

I'd rather see a CE3K sequel before a ET sequel.

I agree; I think there are more places to go with the story with a CE3K sequel than with an E.T. sequel.

Neil. That sounds like a good sequel for E.T. As long as it is directed seriously and the porno/airplane death are treated with a straight face. Close Encounters sequel should include Roy Neary asking repeatedly to go home because he forgot something. Finally, he goes berzerk and the rest of the film is an hommage to the "First Blood" forest sequence, with Roy Neary taking out the aliens one by one, Green Beret style.

No sequels any more, Mr. Spielberg! Please! I perhaps woudn't mind if he chose to extend upon "Always" or such, but when was the last time a director made a sequel to a great movie that was not a complete waste of time? "Terminator 2" maybe?

I personally thought The Mummy 2 was an excellent sequal.

I can assure you though, there will not be an ET 2.

There's a contract that prohibits it that Steven put into effect for the express purpose not to ruin ET like so many other movies are by their sequals.

I don't believe that a bad sequel ruins the original film. If a sequel sucks, just ignore it - the original film remains as good as it ever was.

Well, the sequels to The Matix sure took away some polish of the original.
