Does anyone know if the the track of Star Trek tv theme performed by John Williams and the Boston Pops Orchestra is arranged by Alexander Courage or John Williams?

The version found on Out of This World Boston Pops compilation is marked arranged by Jerry Goldsmith himself.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture, that is.

The Alexander Courage TV theme recorded by Williams and the Boston Pops was indeed arranged by Courage.

Awesome album!

Good question, given that Courage orchestrated some Boston Pops material for Williams albums.

Karol

Williams and Goldsmith never orchestrate the music. Except for Schindler List and JFK Williams never orchestrate an album!

Anyway Alexander Courage original theme is different from Pops Boston version but it seems his arrangement, a brilliant theme and orchestration that symbolize fraternity.

Goldsmith did and Williams does a proverbial 99% of the actual orchestration themselves, and Williams pens an entire cue down on 30+ staff paper himself from time to time. In their case, the orchestrator's job is/was more of a formality than an art on its own, really.

What are you talking about. Williams orchestrates everything himself. Conrad Pope calls himself a glorified copyist when working with Williams because he says it's all there in the notation and notes.

I was under the impression that Williams writes piano songs and then the orchestrators make it for symphonies, isn't that right?

Not at all. SOME composers do that, but not John Williams. He does pretty much everything himself.

It's not that hard to understand.  Arthur Morton wrote the Star Trek fanfare.  John Williams wrote the Star Trek theme.  Alexander Courage wrote the Star Wars fanfare which was orchestrated by Jerry Goldsmith.
