Then lord then said...let there be fire, and the moon turned red with blood...the end was near...THANK GOD!

and I quote...

"Guess Who" screenwriters Jay Sherick and David Ronn have been tapped to write the big-screen adaptation of "Baywatch" (it was inevitable, wasn't it?). Variety reports the DreamWorks flick is being rushed for a summer 2006 release. No word if the movie will feature the original stars or a new cast as the lifeguards patrolling a California beach. Baywatch: The Movie. The first movie to be shot entirely in slow-motion. Pamela Anderson will win the Oscar for it.

Best news I've heard all day. I guarantee you that the lifeguard suits will be much skimpier than the shows'.

This sounds as a bad as an MTV produced movie.

Well now we have a lock for Best Picture of 2006. 8O

BAYWATCH: The Movie.

You would think after 'Guess Who' those writers would be blacklisted. Forever.

I've never watched this-- have seen a few images, though.

However, movie-wise, this might turn out to be the best TV-to-movie idea and adaptation in years.

Mission: Impossible, The Avengers, Wild Wild West (Will Smith?!), Charlie's Angels, ..., can't even compare with the originals; they make these for the rap-techno audience targets they have in mind, betray the originals, change them completely, deride them.

Instead of simply making something "original", albeit "inspired by", they use the names of well-established TV series to lure in people.

In this case, however, I'm not sure there's much to be betrayed or changed, so that it should turn out to be like a long episode with a bigger budget-- and thus, a better TV-to-theater transition than many.

Yeah, I love Mission: Impossible. A very clever, stylish movie.

M:I-2 is complete and utter crap.

That may be true. I have never seen the original series. But I love it on its own.

Let's just saw that you can't take the lead actor from the series, turn him into the films villian and expect to get away with it unscathed.

They did that? Ouch. :(

You didn't hear? Michael Gambon is playing Voldemort in GOF.

Guess that ties in well with the rumors of Mark Hamill playing the new Sith Lord in the upcoming Star Wars TV series.

I did mean M:I 1 .

Haven't seen the second one-- disappointed by the first one, and not too attracted by the second one, especially with John Woo's ludicrous slow-motion mania & dove zoo manias.

The first one is one of those numerous scams: movies that are sold as adaptations of literary works or TV shows, when all they have in common with their sources is the title.

As a movie, M:I was not bad, mind you, there were some good things. But they should have called it "Spying" or "Dangerous Activities" or "Wires" or whatever; but what they did was stupid-- as Stefancos explained.

Stick with Mission Impossible 1 as a De PalmaElfman collaboration is far more satisfying than Woo/Zimmer (Shudder) :music:

Has anyone listened to John Woo's commentary on Paycheck where he tries to convince you that his movies are about 'human drama'? Yeah sure.

On the M:I-2 DVD, he explained that the opening climbing sequence is about how Ethan Hunt is in touch with the earth and loves nature.

Seeing Tom Cruise hanging over a giant gorge with one hand, smirking into camera, makes me think Ethan Hunt has nothing but contempt for nature.

Also, the series was about an ensemble, not about just Tom Cruise

I don't agree, I think you can get away with it. It's an adaptation, it took the series and went in another direction. In this matter, measuring faithfulness is not to the point, and even superseded.

By the way, I could be mistaken, but wasn't the same thing done on the A-Team series with the men from UNCLE?

I also don't agree that it was about Tom Cruise, the first movie. (although Cruise tried, but DePalma wouldn't give in? - I'm not sure of this.) Now, the second movie was all about Cruise, and for me it's one of the worst movies of the last twenty years. I don't think more close-ups of Cruise would have been even possible.

Alma has auditioned and won the part as C.J.'s Mother. Also featured in the picture are Joan Collins, Linda Evans and Tippi Hedren.

Yeah. He wears boots when he goes fishing, though, but never pants. Except for when he goes swimming.
