#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,392 Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 . Insurrection is a bland score to me, but the Shinzon theme is gorgeous.Nemesis Marian...NemesisThe theme isn't overwhelming (although the main title version is pretty), and the album is poorly balanced. But the score as a whole is a great action score. The main problem with Insurrection is that it kinda wears out it's welcome. The last part of the score really doesn't have much that the first 3 quarters has. All the best action stuff, The suspense cues, the romantic music like New Sights is in the first parts of the film. The last act feels like a rehash.maybe the upcoming complete score will change that, the film version of the final action scene sounded quite good if I recall....
crocodile 9,724 Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 I'll put Horner's nifty and flexible Spider-Man theme against the Gia's Trek theme any day. That Spider-Man theme sounds so bland to me.What are you talking about? It's as great of a theme you'll get from a film like this these days. I love it. And it captures the essence of the character so well (both as a human and a hero).Karol
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 I liked the Spiderman theme too and I was unprepared for the electronics of the score.
KK 3,313 Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 The electronics were integrated incredibly well. And the main theme is stellar.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,392 Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 It's kinda reassuring that Horner continued to do his things, regardless of changing fashions in film music.
Wojo 2,458 Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Nothing about the new Spiderman film was worth revisiting. Not even the forgettable score.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,392 Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 It's more rounded then the Elfman efforts.
Wojo 2,458 Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 I'm glad you like it. I adore the soaring Elfman theme as if it's almost religious. It's probably better than Tobey deserves but that's ok. Brónach 1
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,392 Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Elfman's scores feel rather detached to me. His theme has rather the same problem as Zimmer's Batman theme. It's effective, but musically there isn't much meat on it's bones. Both strike me as the opening notes of a theme that never got written.
KK 3,313 Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 I like Elfman's theme more, but Horner's is great too.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,392 Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Elfman's sort of captured the essence of web-slinging with it's up and down chords. Horner's theme more depicts the actual character.
KK 3,313 Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Elfman easily captured the essence of the character and I think his theme was the perfect embodiment of the Spider-Man figure.
Ollie 1,375 Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Horner's Spiderman score is better than I thought it would be but it's obvious he was influenced by or the film was temp tracked with Elfman's superior scores. Wojo 1
Marian Schedenig 11,695 Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Nemesis Marian...NemesisYes. As you can see, I keep mixing up the titles. The main problem with Insurrection is that it kinda wears out it's welcome. The last part of the score really doesn't have much that the first 3 quarters has. All the best action stuff, The suspense cues, the romantic music like New Sights is in the first parts of the film. The last act feels like a rehash. maybe the upcoming complete score will change that, the film version of the final action scene sounded quite good if I recall....It's about time the expansion was released. Oh, and there's Children's Story, too. That's a fantastic little track.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Horner's Spiderman score is better than I thought it would be but it's obvious he was influenced by or the film was temp tracked with Elfman's superior scores.Elfman's scores Superior, think not. Elfman, there is a composer who hasn't done anything in years worth listening too.
Jay 46,245 Posted April 8, 2013 Author Posted April 8, 2013 Are you serious? Have you not listened to Serenada Schizophrana, Iris, or Hitchcock? He had a lot of crummy scores in the 2000s, but he's had a resurgance of late, some new spark of creativity.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 no I haven't because as I said and you agreed most of his 2000 stuff was crummy, and I rarely listen to scores of films I don't watch.I can't even remember any music from Oz the Great and Powerful.
Jay 46,245 Posted April 8, 2013 Author Posted April 8, 2013 Iris and Serenada Schizophrana are not film scores.Iris is a Cirque De Soleil show and Serenada Schizophrana is a concert workCheck em out!http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005P4HK3Q/http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HEZF7C/
Wojo 2,458 Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 I haven't heard them either, though I enjoy some of Elfman's recent scores so I'm off the hook.
Jay 46,245 Posted April 8, 2013 Author Posted April 8, 2013 No better time than now to click on samples!
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 I so missed the days when seemingly every movie I came out of I then rushed to buy the score if I hadn't already.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Right now this is priced at $19.99 which leads me to believe it will be a packed OST.
Anthony 895 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I'm pretty sure if they only finished recording last week, and MG is in Lucern this week, they won't have even assembled it yet.
Jay 46,245 Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 Right now this is priced at $19.99 which leads me to believe it will be a packed OST. No, it's $16.98, the same as every other upcoming Varese CD (other than their reissue of Himalaya) http://www.varesesarabande.com/servlet/the-SOUNDTRACKS-cln-Upcoming-Releases/Categories
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Guess SAE is charging a few dollars more then.
BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Soooooo...I expect samples by late next week. Or early the week after.
Jim Ware 638 Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Giacchino's score for Star Trek Into Darkness was premiered in concert last night as an encore following the premiere of Star Trek - Live to Projection in Lucerne. The piece performed was referred to as 'the bad guy theme' and was appropriately menacing. There are over 100 minutes of music in the film and as of yesterday Giacchino was still assembling the album.
Ollie 1,375 Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 My most anticipated score of the summer.Of course looking at the composers attached to the other big films it may be my only score of the summer.I wish someone would have taken video of the performance of Darkness' music.
Rachael Foley 10,164 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Maybe some one who saw it could hum the theme
gkgyver 1,647 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Modern themes aren't hummable. I thought we agreed on that,
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 My most anticipated score of the summer. Of course looking at the composers attached to the other big films it may be my only score of the summer. It's not mine. Mine is Zimmers Man of Steel and Howards After Earth. Both will present something new.

Jim Ware 638 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Modern themes aren't hummable. I thought we agreed on that,It's a six note two-phrase (ascending/descending) motif rather than a theme. Quite hummable, but the developmental meat of it was in the accompaniment.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,392 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 I agree. I am genuinely curious what Zimmer will come up with.
Richard P 5,306 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 My most anticipated score of the summer.Of course looking at the composers attached to the other big films it may be my only score of the summer. It's not mine. JoeinAR 1,957 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Yeah, something new my ass.You could say that about the 2013 Star Trek score! Zimmer will give us something new in a Superman score. THAT'S 100% FACT! What quality it is...well we will see. And JNH will give us a different score than his other MNS films.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Even the great Mark O has to admit Zimmer's score wont sound like JW.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 and mark if I purchase it will Hell freeze over, Joe buying Zimmer.NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
