A24 5,156 Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 No, people THINK it is complicated. That doesn't make it complicated.People are just easily impressed. If people think it's complicated and they love it for it (a so-called thinking man's action sci-fi movie), then who are we to say it's simple as Sesame Street? Anyway, it's true. Inception does have a complex plot. However, I would've preferred it the other way around, a simple plot but a complex movie.
BloodBoal 8,711 Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Wait, do you mean complex or complicated? Be precise, boy.Inception plot is complex, but not complicated.
indy4 160 Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 You all should watch this lecture on Inception if you have the time. It offers a VERY interesting interpretation of the plot and message (although for all the stuff on the philosophy you have to get the book). Some of this stuff blew my mind. Although I saw the movie again recently and I'm not sure everything holds water.
A24 5,156 Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Wait, do you mean complex or complicated? Be precise, boy.Inception plot is complex, but not complicated. It's complexity suggests that it's complicated. com·pli·cat·ed [kom-pli-key-tid] adjective1.composed of elaborately interconnected parts; complex:complicated apparatus for measuring brain functions.
Wojo 2,458 Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Whoa, what, wait? Complex is part of the definition of complicated? What's up wit dat?

And as such, I thought it did quite well.
KK 3,313 Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Inception is not as complicated as people seem to lovingly point out these days. It's easily followable and very entertaining.
Ren 77 Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 inception can make any movie sound complicatedhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHJwgA54Gqk
Ren 77 Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 it's very good - they had to adjust a musical phrase though in the middle....
nightscape94 968 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Definitely watchable, but I really wanted to love this movie. Starts off very promising, but then meanders a bit. Then basically gets derailed at the end. The characters just aren't fleshed out enough and the action scenes aren't spectacular enough to overlook that The Cate Blanchett character and the three minor villains are cardboard cut-outs an there's nothing all that interesting about them. I really wanted to know more about Hanna (Saoirse Ronan). There's just enough of her to maintain interest.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 lololololthat was brilliant.I prefer this one: Definitely watchable, but I really wanted to love this movie. I missed most of the set up I think, but I really dug the action and score.

Then again, I do tend to lean towards slow atmospheric movies that make me truly feel what they are showing. Inception went through the landscape like a high speed train, as if going fast was way more important than the journey itself.Alex
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Inception is overrated claptrap. IMHO, it's another overly praised underwhelming effort from Nolan who excels at underwhelming. Muad'Dib 1

JoeinAR 1,957 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Yeah but why, Joey? Why?!because I dreamed it that way.
Quintus 6,499 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 When I woke the next day the reality was even worse: I was living in a world where the movie was universally acclaimed by all.

Brónach 1,330 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 You remind me of myself when I think of The Matrix.
crocodile 9,724 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 If you like games and kung fu, then I suppose it was.Karol
Brónach 1,330 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 But The Matrix is fun as hell! That why I brought it up. My feelings towards Inception and The Matrix seem to be completely reversed to yours. I find that funny.
Quintus 6,499 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 You thought Inception was actually a fun movie? Btw, the sequels don't figure in my Matrix appreciation.
Brónach 1,330 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 You thought Inception was actually a fun movie?Of course! I don't love it for being "deep" or shit like that. I don't care how "deep" a film is, it's irrelevant to its quality.I love the mission in the film. I like that it's somewhat morally ambiguous. I love how they execute it. The actual narrative tension. I find it emotionally involving, dramatic, and very exciting.By contrast, not only I don’t get any of that from The Matrix, it leaves me ice cold. I am not impressed at all by the so-called "awesome visuals", I’ve come to dislike a lot stories about “chosen ones” (and even then, this one is very so-so and boring and does nothing particularly new), and there are a pair of things that don’t make any sense at all to me. And I dislike the so-called “cool” aesthetic of the film.Btw, the sequels don't figure in my Matrix appreciation.I know KK 1

crocodile 9,724 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 When I woke the next day the reality was even worse: I was living in a world where the movie was universally acclaimed by all.So far the new Batman is getting standing ovations after preview screenings. It's supposed to be better than the previous two. So be afraid Quint and Alex (and maybe Joey). Karol
crocodile 9,724 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 These were press screenings, apparently.Karol
A24 5,156 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 See?Or maybe the standing ovation was for the trailer of Man Of Steel ...
crocodile 9,724 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I'm curious of this film. Snyder's, that is.As far as TDKR goes. I hope it's good. Being a Nolan fan, I will probably enjoy it much more than you. At the very least.Karol
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I'll be quite happy if TDKR is better than TDK, which I thought was better than BB.I do have a new appreciation for BB.
crocodile 9,724 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I thought you hated the film. BB that is. Tell me more about it.What I meant, though, is that yes you liked TDK a bit, but then again Nolan doesn't do much for you. So it can go either way.Karol
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 well as anticipation for TDKR I decided to buy the Batman Begins Steelbook at Best Buy to get some Batman Cash for TDKR.I've been as fair to the film as I can be pushing aside my prejudices towards the ninja stuff. I've found an appreciation for the movie based on the performances within the film. There is no denying this is an origin story, not my favorite origin but I give it a pass. I've given Chris Nolan the benefit of the doubt and have finally seen the lines of connectivity between the first two films. Katie Holmes is much better than Maggie G., but that's for another day. James Newton Howards music when you hear it is not bad. I always argued with Alex that there was CGI in this film but I didn't realize until I got the blu just how much there is. All in all the film is growing on me. One day later this fall or next winter I will sit down and have a trilogy fest of the Bat.One thing Chris Nolan does well is he gets great performances out of his actors.
Quintus 6,499 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I'll be impressed if TDKR better BB. It's my second favourite origin movie.
Quintus 6,499 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Looking at Batman 1 on tv now. Man, it looks like shit.
Red 75 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 A room full of Nolanites, I'm sure. There's a real immaturity to that term.
Hurmm 104 Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I count myself a Nolan fan, but not an ardent one. I agree with Alex and Quint when it comes to Inception. That film is simply too dense with plot... And talking. The characters simply do not pause to explain each and every thing that happens. Instead of showing, it tells. You're always processing what is being said, what is happening. There are no moments of pause, no moments of quiet to simply take it in. The first time I watched it, I have to admit it was quite a rush... I've never done so much literal processing in a film before. But... That's all there is to it. Upon watching a second time, I realized it was just a shell of a film. There was nothing left to savour. I will say that it is at least a unique film, and props to Nolan for that. I watched TDK again the other day. Now this is another densely plotted film, where there isn't much of a pause as well. But the thread is singular instead of the multiple you get in inception. Despite the density of the plot, you are not processing at 100% all the time, so you're actually able to enjoy and be engrossed by what is unfolding. And there are a great many superb scenes here- the opening heist, the first appearance of the Joker, the interrogation, the final confrontation of Batman and Joker... Though I do feel it does get a bit heavy-handed at times with its morality plays, like when the big brute of a convict throws the detonator out of the window. It just screams contrivance.
Xander Harris 9,677 Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 KaliforniaThis movie kicks some serious ass? Brad Pitt, man. Throwing Michelle Forbes down on the bed and yelling "NOO! NOOO!" Hilarious, bone-chilling, complete entertainment. Oh yeah, Michelle Forbes. Utterly gorgeous with a perfect body, sexy ass voice and she even makes smoking cigarettes in a shitty motel look hot as all hell. Bob hairstyle, high-waist skinny jeans, sleeveless denim. Now there's a woman for me.
Brónach 1,330 Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 You thought Inception was actually a fun movie?Of course! I don't love it for being "deep" or shit like that. You were spot on with your description Chaac.I think it works because it goes forward with its particular world and story as it was the most normal thing ever. But it's a really weird and fascinating set of situations to find yourself in. And the story of Cillian Murphy's character is quite cool. The second time I saw it I was with a lot of friends and many of them were getting excited nearing the clímax of the film as in "come on! you can do it!".There are no moments of pause, no moments of quiet to simply take it in.There's no point or way to start putting pauses there for no reason, it breaks.
Hurmm 104 Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Half the film is characters explaining stuff to other characters (and the audience). That gets very irritating especially upon repeat viewings. And I just can't be bothered whether Cillian's character gets his reconciliation with his father. It's a poor climax, and feels very artificial in its attempt to evoke an emotional reaction from the audience.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Inception is a cinematic treat. I saw it three times in the theater, more than any other film since my childhood. Back then I think I saw Batman Forever like 14 times.
Xander Harris 9,677 Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Ahh, Batman Forever. Now there's a fun flick. Underrated. Inception? It put me to sleep. I have serious man crushes on Leo and JGL, so if seeing the two of them together there did nothing for me, it must really have stunk. It was an exercise in joylessness, with pounding Zimmer music, way too much exposition and mostly terrible characters.
