Thor got a reaction from Once in New concert work: "A Toast!"
Ha, ha....thanks for the reminder, BB. Great photo!
Even if this piece was a one-off, there were no cameras and there were no one who sneakily recorded it on their smart phones or whatever, I hope it will receive a recording eventually. Or if Williams himself doesn't, someone else will pick up the score sheets and do their own version.
With each new concert piece he writes, my "quest" gets prolonged. Between that and his tv music, I think I'll be occupied for the rest of my life.

Thor got a reaction from airmanjerm in Contact with John Williams
I've never been able to get in touch with Williams himself. I've seen him live twice and I've been near him (outside the Boston Symphony Hall), but never exchanged any word or had any kind of photo opportunity on my own. I've also talked to his management, but that's about as close as I've been able to get, despite some very professional requests.
But don't let that discourage you. There are several members here who have been more successful than I, and I know of one story just a year ago or two, where one of us even managed to get a personalized letter in return.

Thor got a reaction from Arpy in Contact with John Williams
I have no idea what Australian postal rates are, but I assume it's no more difficult than sending a letter to anyone else outside your country.

Thor got a reaction from Arpy in John Williams and JWFan
I doubt Williams has ever been on the internet at all in his life. At least not very much. He has said he's very 'anti-deluvian' and only has a cell phone because his wife wants him to. Much less said about computers and fan-related websites.
I also doubt his 'entourage' tells him about it. I've been in touch with his PA a few times for professional puposes, and they're extremely protective of the ol' man in many ways.
I've said it before -- it's probably easier to take the Pope out for a beer than getting an interview with Williams.

Thor got a reaction from Arpy in What makes a great Williams score for you?
Yeah, something about the chromatic leaps in that one.
But the "Final Duel" track -- short as it is -- is even closer to the sound, so I should have added that.

Thor got a reaction from ins in The John Williams Picture Thread
I like this one. Not because I'm in it, but because it says something about his rock star status -- even beyond the world of film music fans.

Thor got a reaction from Dixon Hill in Your favorite John Williams score of the 2000's? CONCLUDED
For me, this place is 90% the JW subforum and 10% this place, so I hope Jay moves it to the correct forum.
In any case, my favourite is without question A.I. -- a masterpiece and his best work of the 2000s, IMO.

Thor got a reaction from Dixon Hill in What makes a great Williams score for you?
If there is an appearance of his "religious sound".

Thor got a reaction from Sweeping Strings in Gervais is making a David Brent movie. Yay!
Same here. Plus the Karl Pilkington shows, which are basically Gervais' and Merchant's baby. This should be good.

Thor got a reaction from Dixon Hill in Brian Eno Hates John Williams
I'm just happy to see that there are some of us who can appreciate both musical expressions (different as they may be), and that we don't take one artist's personal opinions as personal affronts. Bernard Herrmann was notorious for expressing similar sentiments about composers he disliked -- and also lauded praise on those he DID like -- but that doesn't really have any bearing on the excellence of his own music.
As someone mentioned earlier, this is like the Gilliam/Spielberg incident. I disagree with Gilliam, but a) I still appreciate his work and b) it adds to his colourful personality. The Horner/Malick comments are similar. Again, I disagree with his comments, but I find it utterly refreshing how he "dares" to go against Hollywood ass-kissing in public interviews. As I can attest to, Horner is also extremely friendly in an interview situation.

Thor got a reaction from Dixon Hill in Brian Eno Hates John Williams
Wow, brutal honesty from Eno there!
But there's no reason to take it personally. I still love the guy's music and it just adds to his colourful personality.
I wonder what he would have thought about something like IMAGES, though, since I have a feeling he's basing his opinion on only one particular sound of Williams.

Thor got a reaction from WilliamsStarShip2282 in "Scherzo for Piano and Orchestra" - new Williams concert work debuting July 1 2014
Well, it's the biggest film music forum on the net, so there's that. I like the place, but I'm embarassed when I see stuff like that. Bizarre, really.

Thor got a reaction from Once in RIP Eli Wallach
Let's not forget that there are two Williams/Wallach connections too -- HOW TO STEAL A MILLION and CINDERELLA LIBERTY. There might also be some more in the TV work, but that escapes me at the moment.
