  1. MY PRECIOUSSSSS..... Come on folks, we all know Gollum wins this poll by miles (yes, King Kong and Caesar were awesome...but not as good as Gollum!).
  2. Bored of Tintin?! Somethings seriously wrong dude There is just so much energy and enthusiasm in the score that you can't help but stop listening to it! It is fantastic all the way through. I also think its a score that really grows on you. Tintin has soul alright, just very different from War Horse. Where War Horse wins in terms of beauty and emotion, Tintin wins you over with its adventurous and quirky spirit. I had a tough time picking between the two for my favourite score of the year, but I ended up with War Horse simply because of its beauty. I was listening to it yesterday, and damn, those flute solos get me every time!!!
  3. Its been a long time since I've watched the Phantom Menace (with good reason), I'll be watching it in 3D tonight, I'll offer my criticism then
  4. They're both high 5 star scores and in terms of enjoyability, I'd say they're about equal! And Thor, you're definition of JW's middle ground must be some really damn high stuff
  5. I still haven't gotten it yet, waiting to see what other releases we have this month and maybe I might get the Miklos Rozsa treasury as well (still haven't gotten that one!). How long do you think it'll last. And Mr. Josh, get this score, its a classic and quite epic!
  6. Anyone watch Mildred Pierce? Its fantastic with some exceptional acting on Kate Winslet's part (as to be expected). Yes, it starts off a bit slow, but the series is so engrossing and engaging in its strong narrative and haunting characters. I love this loyal adaption!
  7. Theres a big difference between stealing and "borrowing" you know
  8. Agreed Jason, I would think the same thing. The Rhine Edition of the score is great, but I a 5CD release definitely sounds like something I'll be getting. Awesome! Can't wait! Ben-Hur is one of my favourite scores of all time. Next up, Tadlow's release of Rozsa's epic Quo Vadis.
  9. oh but how wrong you are... Indeed. The Terminal is one awesome score! One of Williams' more unheralded gems! Agree with every word, apart from this one: 'adding'. It just really got on my nerves. I think most of the score serves the film extremely well. The only miss-step is the over use of the main theme for every travelling montage shot but I put blame of that on Tamahori's door. It feels like whenever there is even a hint of mountains in the film the theme pops up. I really loved the score for the Edge. It has a fantastic main theme and the brass work is great in this score. I really appreciated how he takes his usually synth accents and writes them up for the orchestra, it really added to the beauty of the score. Loved it. I haven't watched the film though.
  10. The first one! Start with that, its my favourite. Frontline and Underground comes really close. Start with the first, then get 2 and 3!!! That stuff is Giacchino in his prime, my favourite scores of his.
  11. Hey, I think theres been a bit of a misunderstanding. I don't think he was intending to offend anyone, nor was he asking anyone to give up his money. He was just asking us to send a few emails and petition for Williams' star. He was just a little surprised that people weren't really up for it which is completely understandable if you ask me. I don't see why everyone keeps bashing him.
  12. In my defense, I did type it all up Forgive me Brother Wojo, I had such little time and such little sleep that errors are bound to happen. Regardless, the proof is there...
  13. Brother Luke, turn not to the Dark Side. Abide the laws of our Lord's Church and with Brother Stefan, join this election! Have I not shown you proof above? Have I not stated my arguments justly? We must unite against the darkness...
  14. Those clips aren't exactly helping the film's case Chaac The CGI in this film looks surprisingly bad, especially the first clip. That creature (whatever you call it) sticks out like a soar thumb. The alien creatures aren't that bad though. You can tell I know next to nothing about the book
  15. Andrew Stanton talks about the film and Giacchino's score: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/53561/ Excited for the score, still think the movie is going to be a piece of crap.
  16. OH I agree, the score can come as very lazy at times. Its a score with many flaws. Oh and don't get me started on this horribly cheap synths...With something like A Game of Thrones, in the right hands, the score could have the potential to rival Shore's LOTR in terms of thematic integrity. At first, I hated the score, but in comparison to most of Djawadi's mundane works, it actually sounded like he tried somewhat for this score. I blabber on about this in a little piece I wrote earlier (and posted somewhere in this thread). http://musicmusekk.wordpress.com/2011/11/19/game-of-thrones-ramin-djawadi/ The score was too subtle (often taking up droning) and is rarely given time to soar when the visuals begged for it (although the Finale was done quite well) and the action was too derivative with just standard percussion loops. But I think Djawadi actually tried with the themes with some genuinely lovely ideas for the Starks on the cellos.. Again, its a score with potential that is largely covered by its many flaws, we can only hope that he corrects those flaws for the next season.
  17. This music is too subtle during the show so it doesn't hinder the viewing experience for me. The score has potential and is arguably Djawadi's best score (which isn't saying much to begin with). The finale is pretty good.
  18. Great performances and videos, thanks for sharing. Here are some loyal devotees singing the great hymns of the Church of our Lord and Saviour, John Williams Williams looks like he had fun conducting Exultate Justi
  19. The poster is not bad, although the whole derivation from Winter Is Coming seems unnecessary to me. Why change such an awesome phrase? Winter is Coming works perfectly fine...everyone knows war is coming dammit, no need to be so straightforward about it...we're not idiots you know. And here is a newly released video that the Messenger seems to have missed: http://www.hbo.com/g...l?autoplay=true Iceland! Wow, the ambition and scope of this series always continues to impress me. On a side note, is the music in the background from Djawadi's score? If it is, it doesn't seem to have much of the droning of the previous score, but it still sounds equally synthy (horrifying mix in the first score, even for lower budget MV/RC standards). It sounds a lot like a crossover between Pirates of the Carribean and Skyrim...
  20. Hey guys, I know its kind of late for this, but after some time of listening long hours to the scores of 2011, I've finally completed my award lists for the year. And here they are: http://musicmusekk.wordpress.com/2012/02/15/music-muse-awards-2011/ Who knows? Maybe you'll discover a new score or two in there, but thats pretty much my thoughts of 2011! How would you guys fill up the categories? Categories include the following: 1) Top 10 Scores of the Year 2) Composer of the Year 3) Surprises of the Year 4) Themes of the Year 5) Disappointments of the Year 6) Cues of the Year I left out worst scores category (lack of time), but I could easily fill that one up too if it was really asked. - KK
  21. It is a terrific score but I would have personally liked for Young to divide the music into more tracks so that navigating to your favourite part of the score would be a bit easier. I personally really enjoy the symphony like arrangement of the score. But if you're just stopping by for a short visit for highlights, then I can see the problem. The first score has some very clear Williams' inspirations, but the rest of the scores are clearly Giacchino. But as you said, the first three (the fourth one was good but didn't quite live up to its predecessors) scores are brilliant How did you find Christopher Lennertz's scores?
  22. First of all Brother, it is clear that thine "letter of approval" is false for it does not have the signature header of our Church: To go on, I hold images of the real letter approval from our dear Brother Blumenkohl. For those who struggle to read the letter in such quality, the letter reads as follows: Brother, dear Brother! Think not of me as thine enemy, please, I beg you. I am thy friend, thine ally, so why do you turn away from my counsel? Perhaps I have not been clear enough with my notions. Allow me to sum it up as follows. 1) The ancient laws of our Church dictate that The Grand Inquisitor and the Supreme Bishop are the two most powerful positions in the Church, thus they can only be elected. No one can simply rank a fellow brother as such. 2) One cannot be both Supreme Counsel and Grand Inquisitor. The Holy Hierarchy dictates that each Brother may only be assigned up to a single position in the chart. 3) The Supreme Counsel has very little power. It is an administrative role that requires the task of maintaining traditions. Only the time of direst needs can the Supreme Counsel exercise the power of banning or punishment, but only with the consultation and agreement of The Supreme Bishop or the Grand Inquisitor. 4) I indeed did say that you would be the right man for the job, and I still think so now, but I desire that you earn this position by abiding our Church's laws. What have you to fear? Do you cower in fear to the thoughts of thy brethren? Does thou think that thine brethren shall not vote for you?! WHY CREATE ALL THIS FUSS when you can simply become Grand Inquisitor by following the ways of our Church. Create not this schism, brother I beg of you. 5) I fail to see why thou desires the position of Supreme Counsel when it is nearly powerless. Abide the elections and thou shallt become Grand Inquisitor. I think of you the right man and so do many in this Church, so why does thou fear to go through with the elections? I have no fiendish plans brother, I simply wish to help. Help me help you. I am thine ally, not thy enemy.
