  1. Adobe Audition / Cool Edit Pro is quite good for this too, in their dynamics processing and add reverb effects section. The cue I listen to the most is brief, but is the one I always loved in the film - 3M2 Platform Nine and Three Quarters - 2:18 Towards the end, whenever the train is revealed. It's just a simple 5 note motif but SO brilliant!
  2. Seasons Greetings JWFaners!!! I hope your Christmas was full of music and merriment! All the best for 2011! - Tim
  3. More info here - My link If any members are interested in coming over to this, there will be an opportunity to attend the rehearsals so PM me if you'd like to. - Tim
  4. The concert was first class, a very special day in Germany with the LSO! There will be a full review with rehearsal videos and interview audio in an upcoming issue of FSM Online so watch this space! - Tim
  5. We're meeting up Sunday night as previously mentioned so hopefully you and any JWFan members who can come along will be there! All relevant info here: http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=72589&forumID=1&archive=0 See you there! - Tim
  6. You'll definitely enjoy those selections when you hear them! This is well worth a listen by the way, more details about both CARE events: ClassicFM Podcast with David Arnold & Tommy Pearson - Tim
  7. Pulp Fiction wins it for me. Being a student at the time of release in 1994, it was THE film of the moment and genuinely improved with each viewing! I saw it 8 times in total. Looking back, that era was a pretty exciting time for cinema with Jurassic Park the year before and the Coens Hudsucker Proxy. Many happy days spent in cinemas, whilst I should've been revising! - Tim
  8. The George Fenton selections will be the glorious Final Mission cue from Memphis Belle (his greatest score IMO) and the beautiful concert suite from Shadowlands. Still more announcements to come aswell! www.concertforcare.com - Tim
  9. Agreed 100% Miguel, this release is the most important of the bunch to me, considering how few film music DVD's are out there are in circulation! Looks like a great programme of music too and at a good price with the bonus CD. - Tim
  10. Was there not some sort of apology printed in trade press from Spielberg, stating that Tobe Hooper WAS infact the director etc.? It would be great to have some sort of retrospective documentary on the Poltergeist scenario (like the Alien 3 shambles), but clearly old wounds are still sore and no parties wish to speak about it. Shame! - Tim
  11. Yes that's right Kris, ID4 will be played which is going to bring the house down as they say! Re the get together that was mentioned above: The plan is to meet Sunday evening for a few drinks and dinner in the West End. Before this though, if anybody is interested in an open top London bus tour during the afternoon please shout. This will be a good intro for first time London visitors! Madame Tassaud's attraction is good, but we'll probably still be queueing during the actual Care Concert on the Monday night, so that would be daft! Dave, Peter (from FSM) and I are in the process of setting this up so if anybody is interested in joining us to celebrate our mutual appreciation, then please indicate by posting in this thread. Thank you and more news will follow soon, Tim :-o)
  12. Big updates just announced from the official Care Concert website with a very impressive playlist revealed - www.concertforcare.com A significant highlight will be John Powell's How to Train Your Dragon receiving its concert premiere in a specially arranged suite, which is going to be simply stunning performed live by one of the worlds best orchestras! Monday 18th October @ 7.30pm Anne Dudley's elegant American History X score and Craig Armstrong's gorgeous Glasgow Theme from Love Actually will also be a thrill alongside the Chicken Run and Much Ado About Nothing selections. Seeing all of the composers play Kazoo's will be a riot too! Reminds me of the 2007 film music prom, did anybody go to that and see the choir of errr ducks?! Remember the Psycho screening and Q&A on the Sunday morning at London's West End Empire Cinema @ 9.30am sharp. The composers attending the concert will be there for a special meet and greet, signing CD's and DVD's etc. There will possibly be a FSM / JWFan meet-up on Sunday 17th October arranged too, i'll let you know more details soon. - Tim
  13. But you will know if its legitimate by its packaging? Does it state 'For Your Consideration....' and does it have Universal Music's logo over it etc. 8 Tracks is the correct quantity, as the supposed promos also featured 2 tracks from the song album. Hope that helps. - Tim
  14. We're not really supposed to chat about illegitimate releases here, which is what you have purchased i'm afraid. There was never an official promo released, the only version that was ever out there with more score than the song albums 2 cues is an Oscar promo, which has been copied over the years to what you have recently purchased. The Oscar promo was never complete either, hopefully along with Patrick Doyle's Bridget Jones Universal will licence these for a long overdue CD release! - Tim
  15. This upcoming concert in October will be quite an event for the UK, so it deserves a thread and hopefully some members will be able to attend. Best of all, the proceeds go to charity and with the current devistation in Pakistan it's very timely! It's unique to have so many top composers gathered together in the UK and there's also a special screening at the West End's Empire Cinema, London of Psycho followed by a Q&A with many of the composers the day before the concert. More info below including the relevant web links See you there! Tim http://www.concertforcare.com/ Concert for CARE will feature the cream of talent from the world of film music and comedy, including: David Arnold | Harry Gregson-Williams | John Powell | John Ottman | Michael Nyman | Patrick Doyle | Craig Armstrong | Christopher Gunning | Anne Dudley | George Fenton | Rachel Portman | Dario Marianelli | Jimmy Carr | Royal Philharmonic Orchestra | Robert Ziegler conductor Gala Concert in aid of CARE International Monday 18 October 2010, 7.30pm Royal Albert Hall, London David Arnold, one of the UK’s most successful composers is an ambassador for CARE International, a leading aid organisation fighting global poverty and delivering emergency aid to survivors of war and natural disasters. Arnold is passionate about his work with CARE and devotes a huge amount of time raising awareness and funds for the charity. In November 2009, David Arnold put together the first Concert for CARE at the O2 Academy Brixton and invited many of the biggest names in music and comedy to appear, including Gary Barlow, Mark Ronson, Kaiser Chiefs, Damien Rice, Simon le Bon, David Walliams, Rob Brydon and Dara O’Briain. The success of that gig led David Arnold to create a new Concert for CARE for 2010 that will feature some of the most successful film composers in the world today. It promises to be one of the major events of the year in the film music calendar. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will play music from popular contemporary films, conducted by the composers themselves or the house maestro, Robert Ziegler. Each score will be introduced by the composers and special guest movie stars. Various film songs will be performed by major artists backed by a full symphony orchestra. Also on hand will be star comedians. More composers, comedians and guest artists will be announced in the coming weeks. Check the blog for all the latest information. 16. Great programmes. By the way, Frank Strobel is the conductor of 4 fantastic CD's featuring the film music of Alfred Schnittke. Highly recommended, here's a link: http://www.screenarchives.com/title_detail.cfm/ID/12449/ALFRED-SCHNITTKE-FILM-MUSIC-VOL-I/ - Tim
  17. I'm going to this, can't wait! Hope to see some of you there, let me know if anybody is attending and it'll be good to meet up - Tim
  18. The Marc Pease Experience This is really bad, the film doesn't know what it wants to be at all. Comedy, teenage drama, musical, spoof? Ben Stiller & Jason Schwartzman are totally wasted and come across unlikeable, which is a shame as they're both the opposite. It's based around Jason's character Marc, who has stage fright as a kid but a few years later he combats this by forming a wedding band. Ben Stiller plays the drama teacher who contributed to Marc's stage fright and is having an affair with one of his pupils, the same girl that Marc is in love with. It deserves no more exposure so i'll stop there, an utter mess of a movie! Anybody seen it? - Tim If I could somehow print and frame that final shot, it would be placed on the living room wall with pride - masterful cinematography. - Tim
  19. John Powell's Night & Day This hasn't grabbed me much at all, big let down after the brilliance of How to Train your Dragon, I was never a huge fan of Powell's action scores for the Bourne films etc. I do still listen to Hancock from a couple of years back, love the last 2 cues on that one. - Tim
  20. It probably helps if you've seen the film and know the emotional impact of the scene for which the music was written, but Richard's right it's one of Williams' finest cues. - Tim
  21. Back to America always wins for me, unfortunately it's barely audible in the movie! - Tim
  22. Wonder Woman is great yes! I think I got it based on your recommendation actually Mancini also conducted The White Dawn on that RCA Surround album from 1989 which is a terrific CD. Good to have you back and looking forward to listening in again! - Tim
  23. PM's sent! and re the initial brass section query which i'll post her too in case anybody's interested: 2 trumpets, 4 horns, 3 trombones (2ten, 1bs) and 1 tuba. - Tim The Boy Who Could Fly! How could I forget that, such a gorgeous score!
