  1. Are you suggesting it would have sounded better pronounced Palpa-TINE? Instead of the actual pronunciation of Palpa-TEEN? I think it sounds better how it is, though Palpatine isn't the most impressive name... Besides, we have new ridiculous names to fathom: Captain Phasma, Poe Dameron and Commander Snoke.
  2. Alas poor Bain, I knew ye. In America!
  3. Ya, I thought there was some stingy thing about sequels being nominated...
  4. The real question is what does Brian Eno think of John William's Pacemaker?
  5. That's a great cover. Is it crazy to think a whole production company made the real deal, whereas this guy single-handedly produced this?
  6. J.J's uses of music in the TREK films is pretty solid even if some of it was edited slightly, it's always mixed right. We should be confident going in that J.J. wouldn't have hindered Williams' own sensibilities when being free when writing.
  7. When the film's out and the score too, who's gonna care about the trailer music?
  8. I think it's difficult to think of this score as a "Bond" score for the most part, but in a good way. It's Thomas Newman through and through and his sounds are so distinctive in the world of film music today. If I had to pick a favourite track, it might be Donna Lucia even though that was already released. There's this old-world charm to it, maybe some ethereal quality with a Newman touch. Either way, I'll probably enjoy the score after seeing the film as is a given anytime I get the score first.
  9. Kirk was played by Jeff Bridges in a MO-CAP suit! Get it right!
  10. I'm sorry, i just don't think anything from the trailer comes directly from Williams. Ive been listening to him for a few decades now and I don't hear it. For once, Stef might be right. This seems tailored by a trailer house or three. I can write my OWN trailer music well enough, thank you very much! WTF? Was the trailer made using Microsoft Powepoint?
  11. Did this guy who composed the music from 1:20 onwards in the trailer just add the drums? I thought the reprise of the Han and Leia theme was good. I think it's good we haven't heard any new music yet so it'll be a new experience when we see it.
  12. I agree with Stefan, series 5 was the best of Smith's seasons. Everything felt new but at the same time well-steered by Moffat as if he knew what he was doing for once. Season 7 picked up quite well, but effectively destroyed the Silence's dramatic 'presence' throughout seasons 5 and 6. On the topic of End of Time, Murray really turned up the writing for those two scores. You have the thrilling nature of the Doctor's theme throughout and the return of The Master's theme which I was always fond of since series 3.
  13. Sorry to drag up this thread, but does anyone know exactly how to reference the score in an essay? i.e publisher etc.
  14. I'm dying of laughter and no one else around me will ever understand why, or why I'm looking at a thread of gifs pertaining to John Williams!
  15. The guys whining in this video are like my dad, who coincidentally can be whiny too on the subject. If it aint the main theme once over, fuck John Williams and the rest of the score...
  16. I listened to the Temple of Doom track on the bus the other day, Thor. Let's just say it was an intense bus ride that resulted in my ears being obliterated by the chanting KORA, KORA, KORA SATA JA! (or whatever they were singing)
  17. That moment in The Tide Turns after the rendition of the force theme and the battle is over, this alarming bloody stinger happens. It scares me because of how abrupt amd out of nowhere it comes. I haven't seen TPM in a while so I can't tell what exactly is incidental about it.
  18. "Let me look upon you with my own eyes." I wouldn't have minded one bit if they went the sentimental route and Davros hadn't deceived The Doctor in some plot with Sarf. BUT... ...Sonic. Fucking. Sunglasses. What the hell? Hopefully this is some stunt like the Sonic Cane from Let's Kill Hitler. Please?
  19. Sam Smith... What happened? I dunno, some parts of this song are fine, but the vocals make me cringe. All this means for me is another Bond film where I'll have to sit through the oppening credits and feel annoyed and then enjoy the movie a la my experience with Skyfall. One of my favorite Bond songs was Duran Duran's A View to a Kill. This Smith abomination can go dance into the fire anytime it so pleases.
  20. I'll second Herrmann's Scene D'Amour. TGP, I've never heard Dives and Lazarus. I think there's a smidgen of what John Powell took for inspiration for HTTYD2 in there. Anyhow, thanks for introducing me to Vaugn Williams!
  21. I never said people weren't entitled to their opinions, but why do they feel the need to post the same hatred multiple times in a thread?
  22. Is Giacchino like a punching-bag of this forum? There's a reason I don't find the Zimmer threads and say tripe about the composer, and it's because everyone knows he's gonna catch a lot of flak already. How many times are people gonna say how much they disliked this score or Jurassic World? I'd rather have three competent Giacchino scores than more dredge from RCP.
