Sad to hear Silo wasn’t good. The books were among the best sci-fi I’ve ever read. The show has had good reviews, but God knows you can’t trust reviews on the internet.

I haven’t seen the show yet, but am obviously keen to do so since I enjoyed the books so much.

What made the show so bad that it was unwatchable?

I have read some great reviews of Silo so I’d check it out and see for yourself. I haven’t had time yet but am looking forward to watching it.

Teaser trailer for Killers of the Flower Moon

I’m a big Scorsese fan and this looks incredible! Definitively one of my most anticipated films of the year alongside Dune 2, Oppenheimer and MI7.

Do we know who is scoring this movie?

I've always thought that Iron Man 2 and Age of Ultron were underrated.  Seem to always be on the bottom of poeple's lists but they both have so much stuff I like.

In general my biggest niggle with the MCU is how quickly they tore down everything they built up.  Winter Soldier is a great movie but its also kind of a bummer that SHIELD gets destroyed only 2 years after its introduced.  And then Civil War fractures the team after they barely had one movie together, etc.

I agree about Iron Man 2! It has some great stuff with character development for Tony (anything with Tony's parents is always good) and the introduction of Natacha plus SHIELD is introduced.

Cap 2 is one of the best MCU movies IMO but I agree that it would have been nice to have seen SHIELD in action for a few more movies before the HYDRA conspiracy was revealed. SHIELD kind of exists and is led by Nick Fury and Maria Hill in Ultron and Far From Home but it's not really explained. I hope that this is clarified in Secret Wars. I think they couldn't do too many movies where the team just works together or SHIELD just works before they introduce the big storylines like HYDRA and Civil War but it would definitively have been nice to get more of that.

A show about SHIELD taking place either during the MCU phase 1-3 or as I suggested in another thread, a show about SHIELD starring Peggy Carter set earlier in time would be really cool. Disney released so many shows so it would make sense to do one about SHIELD.

Some movies that I like and other people don't:

Avengers: Age of Ultron - In The Avengers (2012), we see a superhero team being formed. In Civil War, we see it disintegrate. In Infinity War, the fractured heroes try their best, but they aren't sufficiently united to stop a common threat. Then, in Endgame, we see they forming the team again (along with every other character in the MCU) for the final battle, which leaves the team pretty much without its core heroes that first banded together in 2012.

But after the first time they assemble, in Age of Ultron we have the opportunity to see the core Avengers together once again, the last time before the fracture. And that's what I love about this movie: it's a self-contained Avengers adventure, without the burden of other numerous MCU movies.

In a perfect world, we'd get at least a few more self-contained Avengers movies with the main team before the final battle against Thanos. But I understand that cinema is not like comics and can't afford to waste time with fillers. It'd be kinda like more SW movies after ANH and before ESB of the characters fighting the Empire in stories that begin and end in the same movie.

Still, I'm glad we got to see the Avengers united before their Civil War. I'm a sucker for stories (not just movies) of teams of heroes with different powers and habilities fighting together.

Monsters University - I LOVE Monsters Inc, it's one of my favorite movies, animated or not, of all time. The prequel is not as great (few animations are), but it's still a lot of fun. I loved seeing Mike and Sully starting as rivals and slowly building their friendship throughout the movie.

Should've been Oscar nominated in 2013 and not the overly childish Despicable Me 2.

I agree that Age of Ultron is very underrated. I never really understood why people disliked it. It is everything a marvel movie should be. I think it could have been even better if some scenes hadn't been cut (like the visions for instance). Ultron is a cool villain and we get to spend a lot of time with the avengers team. I just wish that there had been a bit more stuff about Hydra and the consequences of Cap 2 shown because that is one of my favorite storylines in the MCU.

I just read that as well. It misses the whole point that the audience just assumed that being Estevez gave him plot armor that he didn't have. The one that shocked me was Kristin Scott Thomas. She had just been in Four Weddings and a Funeral, she was kind of "up and coming".

Seriously that cast was so perfect. Bit of a bummer about Phelps though.

Has there been a M:I movie where the villain wasn't either IMF or created by the IMF?

The villain in Ghost Protocol is a Swedish scientist I think so he wasn't connected to the IMF. Solomon Lane was MI6.

There are a number of shows I probably should have seen, but haven't... Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, The Sopranos and The Wire, although mostly as the premise doesn't massively appeal. I gave up on Succession (despite it clearly being excellent) as, having worked in finance for many years, didn't fancy watching it on TV (albeit most people in "business" are basically normal people doing a job, not some kind of family crime syndicate).

I never enjoyed Arrested Development quite as much as I thought I should but can't quite put my finger on why. However, one show I could never understand why I'd never watched was Seinfeld which I'm finally working through (albeit starting around the second season as the other half started watching it and most comments indicated that it took a while to hit its stride). In some ways glad to have come late to it as it means there are however many hundred and something episodes to enjoy afresh (unlike Frasier where I'd be watching them for the second or third time, brilliant though it is... remake coming... crosses fingers... then again, I liked the reboot of Will & Grace much more than the original, go figure). I've never tried Curb Your Enthusiasm, but now I'm wondering if I should as it also seems right up my street.

The Wire and Succession are on my watch list and I've been told that they're both very good.

You can't go wrong with either BB or the Sopranos, they are both very character driven. I was hooked after just a few minutes for both those shows.

Did you watch S4-5 of AD? I saw the show recently for the first time and found the first 3 seasons hilarious with many reoccurring gags like Michael not knowing who Ann is or the chicken dance lol. S4-5 were really bad as they changed the whole concept of the ensemble cast with the separate and too long storylines which wrap up in the last few episodes.

Seinfeld is my favorite sit com follows by the Office. If you enjoy Seinfeld then I'd recommend Curb as well. It's created by and starring Larry David who co created Seinfeld with Jerry and who does some cameos (Man in a cape, Steinbrenner etc). Curb is a bit like Seinfeld on steroids where Larry (who George is based on) plays an exaggerated version of himself.

I've been told I'd like The Expanse, Sons of Anarchy & Arrested Development.

I'll definitely get to The Expanse, maybe Sons of Anarchy, but Arrested Development feels like too much of a commitment at this point.

Arrested Development is great, pretty groundbreaking comedy but avoid season 4 and 5 (which were made more than 10 years after the show was canceled) because they are not good.

    I really recommend:

    The Sopranos

    Mad Men

    Breaking Bad

    Westworld

    Game of Thrones

    Person of Interest

    House of Cards

    As for Comedy series:

    Curb Your Enthusiasm

    Seinfeld

    Arrested Development

    Scrubs

  8. I have the feeling that binge releases are happening less and less these days for all the major streaming services so it's a bit surprising that they would release this show all at once. However, Echo was a secondary character in Hawkeye so I'm not sure how high the interest is in the show. She was rather good in Hawkeye but I didn't immediately think that Echo needed a separate show (I'd rather get a second season to Hawkeye with Steinfeld and Renner). I got the same feeling with Agatha as well who was amazing in WandaVision.

I think Snyder can be a good filmmaker but he didn’t understand Superman, and initially didn’t even want to do a Superman movie.

He even stated as much during the MoS promo interviews, that talks with DC started after his success with Suckerpunch. DC asked him “So what would you like to do?” He answered “I’d love to do Batman.” “You can’t have Batman, but how about Superman?”

So it makes sense that he rushed to include the Bat at soon as MoS was a moderate success (at least bigger than Superman Returns) and he had a bit more leverage with the DC bigwigs.

If BVS had just been about Batman and Superman I think it would have been received much better. The justice league stuff felt a bit out of place.

  10. Either they go with someone who uses JW's great theme and writes a score in the style of Williams. Or they go another way, like with MOS (great score), and let a composer do their own thing. Hiring Murphy would be a mistake though because IMO all his scores are just there and don't do much. Guardians 3 is a good example of this, the score isn't as good as the first 2 but it's not terrible either.

Superman deserves a good score so Gunn should pick a lane, either go with JW's theme and his kind of style or something completely different but if he picks the latter, then I think Murphy would be a mistake.

The fact that he isn't saying who the composer is makes me think it might not be Murphy, but who knows...
