  1. I'll try to work on something like this, stay tuned.
  2. There seem a few options that are $100 bucks and under, but still, pretty high and no doubt only going to go higher.
  3. The Fugitive - James Newton Howard. Excellent rhythmic film scoring.
  4. Flights to Boston or Albany near concert time are rather pricey, man.
  5. What's the transport picture like? I'd fly into Boston, I'd wager, but would I have to rent a car or are there like any bus or charter lines going out to Lenox/Stockbridge?
  6. Funnily enough, when I frequented a classical music board and shared some of JWs concerti there, the Flute Concerto got a lot of praise. The others not so much.
  7. I think I will do my best to make it, will definitely try to snag a ticket. Got a little money saved up. Seeing and hearing JW conduct an orchestra live is an opportunity I don't want to miss out on in my lifetime. So, I want the lowdown. How do I get the tickets on the 17th? How much will they be? Where can I stay in town?
  8. His concert work is not that far from his film work. The same spirit is there, often the same sort of technical complexity. The main difference is that the overall and thematic structures are more angular.
  9. Anna Karenina Dario Marianelli Lovely period Dario. Was one of the first new scores that I took notice of when I was first discovering film music. Still keeps my interest for sure. The waltz theme is one of the best film themes of recent memory, imo.
  10. It became one of my favorite Horner scores. He always had a great sense of flow, and I think this score really is one of his best in that regard.
  11. Unpopular opinion maybe, but I've never been that big on Titanic, or even Braveheart for that matter. I prefer Horner on a slightly smaller scale I guess.
  12. Black Sunday, JW Muscular underscore with some intriguing moments of orchestration and musical direction.
  13. Great show. As I understand it, it helped garner nationwide support for paramedics programs. Always enjoy watching it when it comes on. Used to watch it daily a few years back.
  14. I can only see Niki Lauda
  15. Some wonderful passages in the score, engaging thematic material and some keen orchestrations. Intermission reminded me of 70s JW. Other parts exemplify a very mature, full-bodied, Golden Age sound with some espirit of Bach, Mussorgsky and other influences. I'm impressed with how Tiomkin was able to craft his own "Roman" sound distinct from Rozsa's grave historicity and spirituality and Newman's more emotion based approach.
  16. It does not "look like it could be in a modern movie" It looks like how movies are supposed to look
  17. Both feel 70s, that is unavoidable, but CE3K is more grounded in the 70s. While Jaws feels is rooted in dramatic and literary themes that give it a timeless foundation that is enhanced by the best of 70s era Hollywood techniques.
  18. Regarding scores, CE3K is probably JWs magnum opus. Regarding movies, Jaws is more immediate, precise, and has aged a whole lot better.
  19. I have! The same redhead character as in his "I Love LA" and "It's Money That Matters" videos. All great.
  20. In Part III he kicks more Soviet butt, this time with the help of Afghan rebels. All very 80s 'murican.
