Rings of Power Bear McCreary's "Rings of Power" Themes
Tydirium replied to Monoverantus's topic in Tolkien Central
Apologies if this has been mentioned before, but has anyone else noticed that 1:06 in "Sorrow, Water and Flame" and 9:25 in "A Leaf Burns" feature the same string ostinato? Possible Mordor motif? -
On my end, I'm seeing "Andor (Main Title Theme) isode 1 - EP," "Andor (Main Title Theme) isode 2 - EP," etc. EDIT: Just saw Jay's comment.

What's with the track titles for the episode themes in the Apple Music/iTunes release? Weird.

Rings of Power Bear McCreary's The Rings of Power APPRECIATION thread
Tydirium replied to Jay's topic in Tolkien Central
Man, I just can't get enough of the Númenor theme, especially the little rhythmic motif that occurs at 1:39 and 4:03 of the concert suite track. One thing I love is how in the concert suite, the buildup to it starting at 3:53 is twice as slow as earlier at 1:34. (It's that slow in "Sailing into the Dawn" as well (1:14), but in that track the entire theme is slow up to that point—so it's not the same effect as in the end of the suite.) -
I really hope not. Rings of Power should just continue to be its own thing.

Really wish I hadn't opened this thread before watching the show. I'm just about to start watching tonight; I had been dutifully avoiding all spoilers and waiting to watch the show until the albums were available for purchase. Guess I just didn't expect to see what are probably season finale spoilers out in the open at the top of this thread. Ugh.

I have not yet seen the show (been holding off until the albums were available for purchase); without getting too spoilery, would anyone mind telling me whether the overall Season One OST album is in any way special/exclusive/unique compared to the individual episode albums? I notice that a fair amount of the track titles appear to be unique, but just wondering if they actually are, or if they are simply called by a different name from what they are called on the individual albums? Lastly, is the overall OST a good place to start when it comes to listening to the music of this show, or should I start with the episode 1 album? Thanks.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) - film and score (Brian Tyler)
Tydirium replied to Jay's topic in General Discussion
Brian Tyler? Why must we always get a typical American Hollywood composer/score for this sort of thing? Why not hire a Japanese composer (the Star Wars Visions ones come to mind)? Why not grab one of the guys who did the Galaxy games, or 3D World, or Odyssey? For example, Mahito Yokota writes incredible themes; even if he is not comfortable working with film, then why not let him write the themes and let a Japanese film composer (or another composer who actually will respect the material) adapt them for the film? I've been thinking for months that we're probably going to end up with a pretty standard modern score that has a small handful of Mario theme references (probably only the classic, most recognizable ones, so the normies react), with probably some cringey pop song over the credits. Looking more and more likely that that will be the case. To think that we could have had a movie that actually looked like Mario and sounded like Mario; instead (as I've been predicting ever since this movie was announced), they use familiar visuals to lure people in, but then the audio is totally different. I mean if you think about it, why should the characters look anything like how they look in the games, if they're not going to sound like them? Speaking of which, why is it that when it comes to these sorts of films, people generally expect the visuals to mostly line up with what has been established (just look at how people reacted to Sonic, when things didn't line up), but for audio, virtually anything is fair game and gets a free pass? Is it somehow unreasonable to expect/hope that the audio should line up with what has been established? Nobody would have batted an eye if the games' actors were set to reprise their roles here, and nobody would have batted an eye if a classic Mario composer were set to provide the score. Just seems like a major missed opportunity, all-around. -

The Fabelmans - score mentions in film reviews
Tydirium replied to DangerMotif's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I honestly don’t get the love for this score (or this track). I love plenty of Morricone’s other scores, but this is so repetitive. It sounds lazy. Still haven’t seen the film. -
Very interesting, thank you for sharing. It’s especially interesting to me that you mentioned this golden period stopping around 2002, as I can also quite clearly hear this “new” trumpet sound throughout 2002’s Minority Report (Anderton’s Escape, for example).

Williams debuts "Helena's Theme" from Indiana Jones 5 at the Hollywood Bowl
Tydirium replied to Jay's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I doubt that, actually. The orchestra at the Bowl was the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Some of the musicians do studio work too, but the vast majority of studio players for Indy 5 likely weren't playing in those Bowl performances. -
This, exactly. As a classical musician, I've had plenty of occasions where I've noticed that my part had an error on it. In cases like that, you simply ignore the page and instead play what you know is the right note... I don't really understand the problem. If people don't care enough/don't have good enough ears to notice that it's an error, well, that's on them. It's very common to find errors on sheet music, though, and experienced musicians/people who know how the music is supposed to go, will fix those errors in their performances.

I think you meant to post Helena's Theme, rather than Throne Room & Finale? -
I'm getting Cinema Paradiso vibes. Could be a magical score from JW.

So cool to look back on this pic and realize it's from Helena's Theme, when the horns take the melody in the second half.

Williams debuts "Helena's Theme" from Indiana Jones 5 at the Hollywood Bowl
Tydirium replied to Jay's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I was thinking the same thing the other day! I could easily imagine this theme in "action mode." Hopefully we get a few great statements of it like that on the OST. EDIT: Not sure if anyone else has brought this up, but I guess we now know where those 5 notes were from! -

The big question is, how long until he does a violin & orchestra arrangement for Mutter? -

Tydirium replied to Jay's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Man, what a beautiful theme. Like others, my first thought was "We Go Together" from TROS. I've been in a Golden Age phase recently, watching lots of old films and discovering old scores, so it's amazing to hear something like this from Williams right now.
