  3. In fact, the pianist (Enguerrand) is a close friend of mine, and a true John Williams' fanatic (got all his scores)... but he doesn't have internet nor a computer... In fact, yesterday, we've just done a concert with several film music excerpt (he was alone doing his John Williams stuff) and I am part of group of 3 called the "Cine-Trio" (piano, violin, oboe) and we played various film music (Lawrence of Arabia, Schindler's List, Gone with the Wind, Mission Impossible, James Bond, Titanic, Mission, Robin Hood...) The JW CD is to be released in April I think... You will be able (I guess) to order it via internet... Perhaps you'll find it in regular stores also (I don't know about that yet)... But it's first to be only released in France (Fnac, Virgin, CD stores...) I will sure keep you informed
  4. I'm thinking about the people that have read this wonderful text through the end as i did to suddendly realize that 10 minutes have indeed passed.
  5. Hmmm... I wonder who composed this theme... Kamen ? Silvestri ?
  6. Hehe... concerning Raksin' Laura Theme... 2 or 3 years ago, I found on a website on the internet (wasn't it yours, Michael Andrade ?) a collection of mp3 files from one of williams' concert including Hook suite, TPM suite... there was also on this concert a rendition of Laura. Contact me if you want this mp3.
  7. And also the bombastic use of the Yoda Theme as Luke fights and pushes Darth Vader off the stage... But I have to agree Lucas (or Keshner? most probably) decision not to include the music here... it kinda reminds me some B movies...
  8. Hey !! She was MY first love too !!
  9. I am Goldsmith too. How many Goldsmiths are they up here ?
  10. Haven't seen the film yet. Haven't heard the score yet. Haven't purchased the CD yet. Haven't got much money yet. Haven't got the time actually. Haven't heard of John Who ??
  11. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Mr. WILLIAMS ! Happy Birthday Variations
  12. Here you go !!! I like also his work on "Sunday in the park with george".
  13. I agree. - THE FLY - THE SCORE - SILENCE OF THE LAMBS are three somewhat different moods for film, different approach on music that were successful for Shore, imo (humble or not... LOL)
  14. I got plenty of friends that loves John Williams as I do (that means that got every sheet music from his film, even some rare scores...) and other friends that do love very much his music... i'd say between 5 and 10 JW fans, and 2 hard core fans (the 2 of them don't have the internet...)
  15. Thanks for the great info guys
  16. LOL... and now I'm wondering why i didn't think of that earlier ? Again LOL...
  17. interessting question KM... I may not be able to answer it very nicely with my limited english but anyway. I think they are different way of composing a thematic element. And one of them intend to search a way to compose several melodic elements that can be superposed together, gradualy. That is in fact a question of harmony and intervalls, which, combined together does create a consonnace or a new harmony, or a dissonance. As Mozart said, it's only a matter of acquaintance between the notes:"the notes have to love each other ... and then it works. It is a process that nowadays modern "techno" music does love a lot (daft punk notably) but that classical composer used a lot to (Bach, Schumann, Liszt were particulary fond of that kind of thematic superposition... Prokofiev later) Then, in a matter of balance, the elements are rarely equaly important. Like you said, it's often a main thematic element (Raiders March) combined and embelished by another one (Short Round's Theme). Then, the composer has to chose why he's using that kind of superposition (duel between two people, remembrances of someone...) Then the composer (or the conductor) can balance the elements and then make one more proeminent than the other. You can try yourself to superpose for example "happy birthday" with "indiana jones"... you'll have to make some adjustement of meter, sometimes on intervalls... but you can have both theme played simultaneously up to a certain point. Other examples in Williams music that are poping to my head: - A Hymn for new England (the horn motif with the strings, and the flute accompagniment... all these elements are exposed separatly and then "mixed together") - In Star Wars Episode I: Anakin destroys the robot control ship: Duel pf The Fate with the Force Theme (in a more developped way, not textualy)
  18. Why not opening a funny images gallery of JW indeed ? a member only restricted area, so that i cannot frighten newcomers.
  19. I know the First Official CD from "John Williams' music on the piano" will be soon officialy released. It's a friend of mine who is actually recording it next week-end and who is a hell of a pianist. It will be distributed by Universal music. More to come, I will sure make some advertising soon to all JW fans as soon as I get more official info about it.
