Another fun little anecdote: In his first or second little speech, JW quickly mentioned how marvelous the Vienna Phil is and that he was going to talk about them more a little later. Never did, completely forgot about it. 😜

Yes, but not just quite as pronounced as with the BPO.
 
No bells up in ET finale. But horn tutti were generally so magical and "forceful".
 
Felt sorry for Leia's Solo horn flubs, but flute solo was great. But the one-off BPO Leia success feels even more special.

I’m so … delighted.  Just happy this got to happen.  Happy for my fellow fans who got to experience this.  I would be in tears of joy were I there live.  Just to know that the Maestro is living his best life and doing this for the joy of it.   I’m overcome with emotion just knowing that with all the things that could go wrong to prevent this, it happened and was recorded.   Amazing times.  Historic in every way. 

The concert was absolutely amazing. The two little mess-ups in the brass were more than made up for by the sheer excitement, joy and ferocity the orchestra played with.

On the other hand he snubbed the girl who shouted "happy birthday" right before the Imperial March, but I guess he was already focusing on the music.

I was pleasantly surprised actually, the people around me all seemed to be enjoying the concerto. I remember this one elderly couple a few seats from me in particular, you could see them smiling even through the mask.
(Sidenote: They were adorable during the second half as well, when the E.T. theme came on the woman started clapping her hands with joy and leapt out of her seat a little. That’s about how I felt as well.)

You could hear parts of the audience getting restless during some parts. One guy in the row next to me got up during the music and left the hall, disturbing all those around him who had to move to allow him to get out. I'd been annoyed by him before the concert even started - he was one of those people who are either too stupid or simply unwilling to put their mask on correctly. That he simply got up without a care for the rest of the audience didn't surprise me.
 
But that's the only disturbance I noticed. I could see several smaller children in the audience, and they didn't seem too nonplussed and all stayed for the rest of the concert.

It got a big applause, though not quite as big as Throne Room, Flying and Imp March.
My favourite quip was when ASM came back for the encore, JW started the sentence "So Ms. Mutter", a "whoo" came from the audience, he looked at them, said "I agree!" and continued.

I assume Berlin's camera setup is a permanent fixture of the hall, as are the dangling micorphones at the Musikverein. But there are no permanent cameras there (remember it was built about 100 years before the Berliner Philharmonie).
 
 
Last time the video recording was done by Servus TV (a local TV station). They're probably not involved this time, and I have no idea what it would take for DG to film the whole thing themselves.
 
 
Viennese horns are notoriously hard to play, and the soloist was clearly nervous. Let's hope he gets it right tomorrow.
 
He's been doing it with various SW pieces. My theory is that he was made aware that he kept claiming the themes were from the wrong films, so he switched to this meme.
 
 
They were rather strict this time and stopped people from even taking photos before the concert. The house in fact has a strict no-photo policy, not just during the concerts but at all times. It used to not be strongly observed though, so I'm not sure if it is new (I wasn't aware of it until November). I don't think they mind if people take shots of the hall with their programme (like I like to do), or of the final applause, but they certainly won't let you film the concert if they spot you.
 
 
The two main houses are the Musikverein and the Konzerthaus. The Musikverein is the home of the Wiener Philharmoniker and has the famous "Golden Hall", which is the venue of the Neujahrskonzert and John Williams's Viennese concerts. The Konzerthaus's great hall has very different acoustics with a much drier sound. It also has Europe's largest concert organ. That's where Hollywood in Vienna's concerts take place.

Well this was incredible. The playing was mostly impeccable. JW was in damn fine shape, ran in for the 2nd part like the wind, visibly had fun doing it, hands moved so delicately. I refuse to accept he's 90!
 
 
Also, I have now heard John Fucking Williams conduct the end of E.T. and SW, his two best scores and my two top favourite scores ever, live in the same room. This was never even a dream of mine because I knew it would never happen. I can die now.

At the end of the concert the audience did that Berlin thing, continuing to clap despite the musicians leaving the stage. And JW came back ! Stage mostly empty at that point. Maybe he had remorse from letting us clap during 15min for nothing in Berlin ! He saluted and did fist bumps with some people at the foot of the stage, it was great !! 

Yes, again. 🤷🏻‍♂️ No, Marion was orchestral.
