It would be nice if Williams released a concert suite from TROS (Rise of Skywalker, Anthem, Speeder Chase, etc.). At this point, though, it seems like the only full-fledged concert piece is Rise of Skywalker. I think that is the best rendition of Jabba's theme period.

The Adagio! I knew that I was forgetting a piece. I thought about the new arrangement of Han Solo and the Princess but did not know if it would "count" or not. It does seem to be Williams reworking the theme in light of their "older" relationship--so I suppose it must count. I would probably put it at #7 on my list. The Adagio would be last, but it is quite good.

I know that there have been sequel music polls and such, but many have not incorporated Galaxy’s Edge and Adventures of Han (unless I am forgetting). I have been wondering about the place of the latter two in Williams’ post ROTS SW music output, as after two years I still think GE is near the top and one of Williams' masterpieces of the 21st century. Here is my ranking of all the concert pieces, excluding the end credits suite from Force Awakens. 1. Rey’s Theme 2. Galaxy’s Edge 3. Rise of Skywalker 4. The Rebellion is Reborn (with thanks to the Vienna performance for helping me to see its brilliance) 5. The Adventures of Han 6. March of the Resistance 7. Jedi Steps 8. Scherzo for X-wings

Stanley and Iris. I don't know how thematically repetitive it is, but the style makes it seem so.

Do you think King Kong (2005) is a masterpiece?
Tom replied to Bellosh's topic in General Discussion
To the questions asked: no, no, no. Many remakes are better, but I would vote 10 Commandments as the greatest remake ever. -
Using one word, how would you describe Williams ST action style?
Tom replied to TheAvengerButton's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Second word: Daisyphilialiscious -
I disagree on the small film issue. I think if he really likes a project, like with the Book Thief (and maybe even Home Alone, back in the day), or a person he admires asks him, like with Dear Basketball, I think he would work at a reduced rate. At 89, a multi-millionaire, and a true artist, I cannot see money being an obstacle.

What is the difference between blind trust and blind obedience. The movie already established that one is not allowed to just leave the resistance. So, "trust" or be punished.

Do you think that Williams has composed more works than we know of?
Tom replied to Fabulin's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I don't think that was the report. He mentioned he wrote a new opening piece, as SW main title is Luke's theme. It is widely assumed, though not confirmed, that it was DotF--though probably a tweaked version for the opening. -

I have always thought the scherzo for piano and orchestra was intended to be a movement in a full piano concerto--probably more a pipe dream than anything else, but maybe the full concerto sits in a drawer or a in safe behind that picture of him conducting. -
Roger Feigelson announces a Williams title is coming from Intrada in 2021
Tom replied to Jay's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I would love a remastered and complete Nixon. It is William's tragic opera, and a very good one at that--some cues touch upon masterpiece status. ROTS is in the ballpark, but it is more a hybrid of tragic opera and action, while Nixon is more pure. -

I did not know these movies had sequels. Sorry. -

Yeah, he really mucked up with that one.

How familiar is JW with the greatest film composer who ever lived?
Tom replied to InTheCity's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
It is amazing what deleterious effects come from rhetorical grandstanding. Why not just say "How familiar is JW with one of the greatest...," or simply, "How familiar is JW with Shost?" -
Your favorite non-Spielberg, non-Lucas Williams director relationship
Tom replied to Jay's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Home Alone by itself positions Columbus pretty well in this discussion. In fact, it is what wins my vote, though HP gives me a pretty good gingerbread feeling as well. That being said, the Stone collaboration is a close second. -

This maybe one of the most insightful sentences describing Williams that I have ever heard. -

Just curious, but does the phrase "who ever lived" really add anything to the thread title? Are you distinguishing the category from other possible worlds or something? -
What Is John Williams's Most Goldsmith Style Score (and vice-versa)?
Tom replied to SteveMc's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Yes, though all his subsequent ST scores were increasingly non-minimalistic and operatic. -
No, I mean that his music grabs you when you first hear it, and also rewards you with repeat listens as it contains layers and layers of brilliance. It is a like a really, really attractive person who you then find has a truly engaging personality.

To alter the Twain quip about Wagner, Williams' music is as good as it sounds.

Then fly the LSO to LA. Just get it done.
