#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
Actually I agree with that sentiment. It doesn't actually matter how Sherlock survived it. There will be some highly convoluted and only barely believable ploy that he used. I'm much more interested in the actual upcoming 3 stories. BurgaFlippinMan 7
then maybe Moffat shouldn't have written himself into such a corner? We'll see
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
The Reichenbach Fall was credited to Stephen Johnson, not Moffat. Richard Penna 3,749
That's some forward planning! Why the late January release though? UK shows tend to be completed before the first episode airs, and they clearly have a tracklist, so why not release it while the hype is there, rather than a month later? The review strikes me as a bit fanboy-ish. Even the best shows aren't perfect, and there's a serious danger of over-hyping ('Who' 50th anyone?).
Jay 37,467
What do you mean? The entire season is already shot, edited, scored, and delivered to the BBC for airing. We just have to wait to see and hear it ourselves, but it's all finished.

#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
With TV shows it is quite normal to release them shortly after the season ends. Unlike (admittedly) most film scores.

You've got to wait a year to get the score released! Boohoo! At least, you get a score release! Is someone bitter about a certain bow and arrow-wielding hero? WHO was rather unusual, but come early 2014 there will have been 5 related releases in the space of a few months.More then a year actually. But it does strike me as weird, for a consistently high rated TV show to have its scores released so long after it airs.Part of it may be the amount of material to sift through. A full season has a lot of music. Either way, you'd think the marketing people would be a bit smarter and make it available just after the last episode airs. #SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
A BBC show like Dr. Who has far less original music written for it then a US show like Game Of Thrones.Because of union rules every episode of a US TV show has to have original music. This happened in the 80's I think. This is why they no longer track music like they did in old shows like Star Track, Mission Impossible etc etc. These rules don't apply in the UK. So the BBC records a certain amount of new music for shows like Sherlock and Doctor Who, and track that throughout the series.
Richard Penna 3,749
Like we don't have enough reasons to find the US unions totally unreasonable... are they allowed to track at all? Like would they have to re-record something so it's 'original' if they wanted to use it again?Wouldn't say tracking in WHO/Sherlock is that rampant. Sure, there are a lot of repeated cues, but each episode has its own style. Tracking only goes so far.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
As far as I know no tracking is allowed. Maybe repeating music if there is a flashback scene.. But remember even in the early 80's shows like Knight Rider, The A-Team, The Love Boat would track music? That is pretty rare now.Tracking in Sherlock isnt done that much because it's a high budgeted show with only 3 eps. On Who is can get quite grating to here the same 30 second piece throughout a series.
Bilbo 3,709
Hmmm, there's a scene in Game of Thrones Season 3 Where Robb beheads the Karstark which sounds like tracked music to me. It sounds like "Pay the Iron Price" from the Season 2 soundtrack.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
Well I suppose if it's purely synth or samples music then repetition is permitted. Because re-use fees for performers don't apply. I was actually talking about music that was performed by musicians.

Bilbo 3,709
I didn't think Game of Thrones used Synths.Seriously? There are so many moments that sound synthy and make the whole thing sound so cheap, it was always obvious to me synths were used many, MANY times. One of the biggest missed musical opportunities of the 21st century so far.Listening now and yeah I can hear synths, especially on the first one. In fairness though, it's a very expensive TV show to make. I guess they have to save money where they can.

Bilbo 3,709
Ned finding Cat in the brother was in the book though and his distrust and treatment of Littlefinger in that scene (because it's a brothel) is important for his own arc as well as Littlefinger's.Littlefinger aside from being Master of Coin is also the owner of a brother. There are lots of sex scenes in the brothels (shock!) but every time we see Littlefinger there his characterization as a slimy, nasty piece of work is reinforced. The scene in Season 2 where he "comforts" Ros after Robert's bastard baby was killed, for example, is a very important scene with regards to his portrayal and kind of had to happen in the brothel.BloadBoal just doesn't like seeing woman on screen. They should play that role at home.Considering who posted this, I was expecting this kind of answer when I started to read it.How do you know they aren't expensive? They've got to pay the actresses playing the prostitutes, they've got to pay the DP (director of pornography), create a set for the scene, etc... If they hadn't built Littlefinger's brothel set (which, let's face it, was basically used only for sex scenes), they would have had more money for the recording sessions! The guy having sex is called Littlefinger?
