When she discovers Mike was lying it's what triggers Margie to re-interview Lundegaard.

Ok.

Postcount padding hypocrit!

He's the king of that. Most of his 32.000 posts say "cool", "awesome" or "OK".

Anyways, anybody else want to weigh in on the relevance of the ex-boyfriend sub-plot in Fargo?

I think it's a rather interesting scene in the middle of an otherwise investigative movie. Mike was so convincing that once she found out that everything he said was completely untrue, you can actually see the moment on her face when she realizes that there may be more to Lundegaard then originally believed. She's looking for that tan sierra, knows it came from the lot, and for a relatively important line of questioning she was very easy on him. She knows she had been walked over.

Although her second interview didnt directly result in finding the kidnappers, it certainly came to light that Lundegaard was implicated.

One thing I love about the movie is that you never know why Lundegard needs the money so bad.

Oh, and how great it is that Marge, who is essentially the main character, doesn't even come into the picture until what, maybe 30 minutes in, after the 3 murders. He intro scene is awesome, an immediately elevates a film that had already been perfectly great to even greater heights.

As previously announced I watched Robocop and Total Recall. Entertaining and full of excess.

And no, they're not better than either Basic Instinct

Basic Instinct is a bit shitty, imo. It's Joe Estevez, after all.

I'd rather watch Shattered, or even Malice. Or just cut out all of the shite and skip straight to Body Heat.

Eszterhas?

BASIC INSTINCT is shitty by design and thrives, imho, only on Goldsmith making it saucy and elegant. Turn off the sound and you're left with pure sleaze. There was a hilarious commentary on the dvd where all kinds of pressure groups and concerned feminists comment in full earnestness about the developments as if it was SCHINDLER'S LIST.

Showgirls takes it a step further. Yes it's glossy trash, but it's designed to be glossy trash, thats the whole point of the film. It might be the least hypocritical A- film ever made in Hollywood.

But it lacks a Goldsmith score ;)

I'm usually a fan of Camille Paglia, but I don't get her hardon for BASIC INSTINCT. It's just classy softcore porn.

I don't think it's classy. Glossy and grandiose, more like.

Glossy, then. Same thing to me.

Fellini's I Vitelloni

Quite an interesting picture, of all the Fellini's films I've watched this one so far feels his most personal -although he's always been extremly personal, he's been quite the mistery. It's interesting how current the characters feel, and how uncompromised they are. They are never supposed to be wholly likeable, in fact Moraldo is utterly despicable, only realising the cost of his actions and repeting towards the end of the movie, though according to what the movie showed us of him there's no doubt he's gonna fall into his old vices yet again.

It's also quite funny at times, maybe because of the sincerity it spreads. It can also be quite scary, especially during that scene where the actor is luring Leopoldo into the docks, and Leopoldo being absolutely terrified when he realises what's going to happen... I kept thinking there's a point in every artist's life when they must face a moment like this, and it's quite the representation of choice: Move forward into success and pay the costs that implies, or run away and keep living the way you are.

I plan to watch it again as I feel I've missed a lot of subtext and because it's left me thinking and thinking about life. I adore when movies leave you thinking and they lure you into watching them again.

9/10

I love that one. I think it's my favorite Fellini movie and maybe my favorite Rota score, or at least theme (the combination of his music and the boys walking along the beach is sublime). Also one of the great movie endings.

God's Not Dead

Okay, this is hands down the worst film of the year. It's a painful reminder of why I stopped believing in any kind of religion years ago, and the filmmakers' contempt for the non-Christian characters, like the sarcastic atheist or overbearing Muslim father, is appalling. The idea about theology vs. atheism is a sound one for a movie, but this is not it. And there's so much holes in its internal logic, it's just... ugh. When I was at college I only had to sign an honor code, and not be forced to abandon my set of beliefs for new ones.

Avoid this one. Even open-minded Christians should avoid this like the plague.

Alien Resurrection is not worse than Prometheus. In fact, it's pretty fun, ...

Yes, the trick is not expect a film that is on a same level as Alien but rather a caricatural take on the franchise. Seen this way, it's better than Prometheus, which can't be enjoyed on any level. IMO, of course.

Ressurection can be enjoyed as a "Joss Whedon does Aliens" type film.

And that's exactly what is was! Or was it a watered-down Whedon?

I always felt the script, with it's humour and Jeunet's more serious direction never gelled well. Like two voices in discord.

Jeunet serious?
