crumbs 14,316
If I had to give any advice, this list would probably be much more helpful in spreadsheet form (maybe against the complete cue list, so we could compare it against what was used or unused). crlbrg and DrTenma

Only two cues were unused. I'm not very friendly with spreadsheets, but I will see what I can do

You have to read the list to go, "Oh, this is about how the score was conformed to the picture," and to be frank, you won't find that many people here who are particularly interested in that. Most of the energy goes into discussing the albums and the scores from which they're compiled, not filmmakers' music editing choices. Not that there's anything wrong with that topic, but the reality is there just isn't that much interest in it around here. DrTenma

Yeah, I agree with this, If you don't like spreadsheets is fine, but I'll find more interesting to see this against the complete score.

QuartalHarmony 543
I’m moderately sure I’ve never heard Jabba’s theme in the actual film - am I missing something? If it is there somewhere, please post Blu-ray time stamps so I can have a really good listen. I’ve been playing the theme on piano from the 1991 anthology, and I hadn’t appreciated how harmonically fun it is - so many minor(major 7th) chords... Depending on how you count, there's between 9 and 11 statements of Jabba's theme in the ROTJ score. https://youtu.be/XVzECYBfVTY?t=20 https://youtu.be/XVzECYBfVTY?t=59 https://youtu.be/XVzECYBfVTY?t=107 https://youtu.be/S68MG3KcZTU?t=168 https://youtu.be/S68MG3KcZTU?t=209 https://youtu.be/izJnYJo329c?t=98 https://youtu.be/g0oNCRe11qY?t=32 https://youtu.be/g0oNCRe11qY?t=167 https://youtu.be/g0oNCRe11qY?t=181 https://youtu.be/n8gcMBhMkIY?t=108 Plus the Concert Arrangement and one I believe unused extension of the theme in R4P1 pt.1. This leaves out of course the very best statement of his theme, which is in The Phantom Menace. https://youtu.be/1JGN7tS8VOc?t=54 BrotherSound and Fabulin 1

That was the reason for my original question, hence I was asking for Blu-ray timecodes from the film, not CD timecodes from the score recording (but thank you for your efforts, @Falstaft). I might just about be able to hear the statements when Boushh /Leia is negotiating the bounty for Chewbacca, but I'm pretty sure the 'Han Solo Returns' track cuts when Jabba has his big reveal. As for the usage in Sail Barge Assault, I'm pretty sure that's buried in a sandstorm of deafening sound effects! The later usages in TPM and the 1997 restored Jabba scene in ANH are both pretty clear in those films, I'm just curious how much it got used in ROTJ when it was a new theme. Mark Can't provide the timecodes, but I can tell you the statements that are actually on the film. There are very few, actually: -Bounty for a wookie (Boushh negotiating): the first tuba statement is unused, but the second one (on woodwinds) is used. That's actually the only "big" appearence of the theme. -"Han Solo Returns" was not used, but was replaced with an insert, which does contain a more sinister version of the theme (low woodwinds) -"Luke Confronts Jabba" has a really short statement of the theme when Jabba is awakened. That's in the film as well. And that's about it. The statements on the "Sail Barge" track are not used at all (no, it's not buried under the sound effects either). Two proper statements and one quick one. If you think about it, Jabba's theme is used even less than the "Brother and Sister" theme!
Smeltington 1,440
George must not have liked Jabba's theme very much. The name of the "more sinister" insert suggests that George probably commented Jabba's music wasn't sinister enough. oierem
