Neumation Music publishing has sent out an e-mail listing it's upcoming titles:

Beetlejuice

The Goonies

For Your Eyes Only

Spider-Man 2

No target dates for releases and includes a caveat that other releases might pop up.

Cover art provided appeared to be movie poster art and should be considered placeholders.  (My editorializing.)

Steve Bartek suggested Spider-Man 2, so that narrowed down the choice between the two. Both Spider-Man scores are exceptional examples of early 2000's Elfman. Either would have been solid choices.

Yes, the images in the newsletter are only placeholders. Our illustrator is hard at work on bespoke art. We have no plans to use theatrical poster art or stills for our publications, though there may be an exception or two in the future. We made the choice early on to commission new art that is more in line with our branding.

These are all in the proofreading phase. A few smaller publications may be interspersed, such as Les Baxter's "The Passions." After engraving 2000 pages the past few months, the proofreading and layout phases are taking a more leisurely pace than originally intended. Slow and steady...

Will the Christopher Young cues be included?

There is some red tape involved with putting multiple composers work in a single book. Those cues may be available separately, at a later date. We are pondering digital releases or supplemental print publications for odds and ends that don’t make it into the books.

Is the Elfman/Burton box expansion not complete?

Oh, I didn't know.. Perhaps someone who knows the score best, can tell us?

edit: I counted 52 cues in the Neumation publication contents.

Here we have 36 tracks. Maybe some tracks combine cues, but I'm not sure, reading the titles. (Most of the times they correspond with the titles in the sheet music contents)

Even if it was, I'd love a standalone expansion very very much! It's sort of surprising that that one hasn't been tackled by a specialty label yet

How are the quality of these compared to Omni or Chris Sidall? Looking into getting Krull.

They are comparable.  I have Krull and it's great.

I listened to the complete re-recording.

I'm afraid it didn't do much for me.

Fair enough. I’m glad to have it, but most fans of the score feel it’s not a particularly faithful rerecording as it was reconstructed by ear from the film (they didn’t access written scores for it). We strongly prefer the original album even though it’s shorter. The rerecording is also not even close to complete, as this new book dramatically reveals. It’s only “complete” in terms of what made it into the film but Barry wrote a ton more music than that and a NEW, actually complete recording needs to happen some day.

Hmmmm. I wonder then what this new Neumation book will be. Will it be the ear reconstruction or the original manuscripts engraved?

Shared at the John Barry group on Facebook:

Quote

Coming this spring from Neumation Music, the first John Barry study score publication: THE LAST VALLEY. Engraved from the recently recovered orchestrations by Bobby Richards.

Includes:

An introduction essay by Jon Burlingame.

A breakdown of all 48 cues explaining the various postproduction edits and unused/alternates.

The unused song lyrics.

This book has been in the works for quite awhile. We consulted all the production companies attached to the film and contacted the estates of the producers—no one could find a single scrap of paper from the production. What’s here is all that is known to exist. I was very happy to have had input from the late Gergeli Hubai shortly before his passing.

Coming much later will be an article about Bobby Richards with comments by his family and discussion of his work with Barry in his own words, excerpted from an archival recording!

And from @bruckhorn’s link which you quoted:

Quote

Thought for many years to be lost, the manuscripts were recently discovered. This edition is engraved from the original orchestrations by Bobby Richards.

We will never publish transcriptions, an original manuscript is a requirement for all of our publications.

The Nic Raine transcription is more of a reimagining of the score than it is an accurate representation of what Barry actually wrote.

It’s printing. June release. Finally.

Jewels of the Sea is in the works as the next Baxter release. House of Usher might follow.

@neumationVery happy to see the new Spider-Man artwork on your site, any idea when the book will be available for purchase?

Also as a side note, is there any chance the books can be printed on higher quality paper (similar to Omni&CSM) It helps with legibility and helps the books last longer.

Spider-Man 2 is being proofread which is quite a chore for it being 900 pages. Looks like spring, following Goldsmith’s The Mummy and Bronislaw Kaper’s THEM!

We are using a far nicer, 70lb matte paper. There were supplier issues with Beetlejuice, and to a lesser extent For Your Eyes Only, that were out of our control and quite disappointing. Goonies, Twilight Zone, Last Valley, The Passions, and everything forthcoming is on new 70lb.

Received my copy of For Your Eyes Only (one of my top 3 favorite 007 scores) a few days ago :lovethis: Due to a slight manufacturing defect (which doesn't bother me at all, I'm happy to say), I was able to get it with a good discount, AND it was the last copy before the reprint next year - so I got double lucky! :w00t:

I can't even put in words how very happy I am that someone actually went through the laborious process of publishing this one, plus at the moment, it's actually the only Bond score that is available in full score edition (at least to the best of my knowledge). @neumation, thank you so much for making FYEO a reality, and I remember reading somewhere that it's certainly not the last 007 score you put out, so PLEASE don't let us down in the future! :D

I know that we didn't get much news from @neumation but then I saw that they had released in a full score book. It was Bronislau Kaper's score to that 1954 monster movie, THEM! I never saw the movie, but I saw some pictures of the full score. It might be something for any of our composer friends to come up to score for a monster movie in Hollywood, but there's one thing that it should have go with the full score; a complete full soundtrack.

BRONISLAU KAPER: THEM! (in Full Score) – Neumation Music

Let's hope there's some other scores to be release for our composer friends.

900 pages!!? Holy Raimi, Darkman! That full score of a full book is gonna be very expensive, like if it's gonna be $90.00 for the paperbound and $120.00 for the hardcover.

THEM was a very special project for us. It’s truly amongst the most rich and intelligent compositions of the Hollywood Golden Age—I think studying this one will keep people busy. Kaper was such an under appreciated composer. We may consider publishing LORD JIM at some point down the road.

We are tentatively planning a webinar for those who want to dig deeper into THEM later this year.

We hope to have THEM hit the printer, then quickly after that THE MUMMY, which is waiting on one small detail.

Following those titles are two scores from Brooksfilms productions (in one book) and a Japanese score by a historically important composer.

Two scores from Brooksfilms? Hmm, where there is Brooksfilms, there's Mel Brooks. And when there's Mel, there's two scores from one of his composers; the late John Morris or Hummie Mann.

And if there's a first full Japanese score book by a "historical important composer", it would be either....

A.) Akira Ifukube

B.) Joe Hisaishi
C.) Toru Takemitsu

D.) Toshiro Mayuzumi

Any update on Spider-Man 2?

The score for THEM has to be printed first, then Jerry Goldsmith's score on The Mummy, then two scores in one huge book on 2 Brooksfilms production film, and the first full Japanese score by a historically important Japanese composer of the olden days. And perhaps maybe we'll get the complete score of Spiderman 2 before the first film could come. And maybe we might have the first Elfman score in a full book.

There have been some weird, atypical delays with this project. The engraving is done and proofreading is on-going, it’s just slow af. It may still come this year.

Lord Jim is one of Kaper's very best scores and especially since the complete score (as with THEM!, or Barry's masterpiece The Last Valley which you also put out) appears to be lost in audio form, I think it would be a great and worthy project. I hope you eventually inspire some new recordings of these classic lost scores.

Oh man Newman's Captain from Castile would be amazing for people to study in written form.

That said, if the point is to tackle something that doesn't really exist on album, then I'd love to get Newman and Friedhofer's The Mark of Zorro (1939), and discover exactly which cues were written by which composer.

There is a complete score (I guess) on Captain from Castile on CD.

Especially some Max Steiner and Alfred Newman scores too

We worked on a massive Steiner score but the book is part of a larger project that has been in limbo. We wanted to publish some Alfred Newman scores, but Newman repertoire is on hold at the moment for reasons we hope to clarify in the near future.

In time, Neumation will cover a lot of ground with the Golden Age.

And let me guess, there's NO full score on Elmer Bernstein's Animal House, since there's NO official score soundtrack on it.

It’s missing at least one key cue which was lost. But yes, it’s most of the score. It just happens to be my favorite Golden Age score by my favorite Golden Age composer, and arguably his magnum opus (there are like a dozen great themes in this thing!) which he wrote over the course of a whole year after doing a ton of research. So it is very worthy of a score book IMO.
