So I recently got Lost: The Last Episodes and have been listening to it frequently. I had this great pair of ear buds, but they broke the day before I got my CD. The wiring had already been messed up so that the left ear was silence, but I managed to tape the wiring into place so that it played anyways.
So I got out a pair of cheaper white ear buds to start listening and they had this obnoxious scratching noise every time the bass was too much on the music, like crinkling plastic. I got out a very old and cheap pair of headphones and they did this to a lesser extent. I even tried by clunky $160 Bose which are somewhat breaking down and they made the same scratchy noise.
So, not wanting to deal with this, I used my last $16 to buy a pair of Phillips ear buds. Band new. I thought $16 would buy a decent pair. Usually I only feel ripped off if it's below $10. The first thing I heard when I plugged them in was that same scratchy noise.
I HATE dealing with this crap.
I'm curious, though, does anyone have suggestions on how to make my ear buds not do this? Because I'm stuck with them.
EDIT: And they've just completely blown out and are extremely quiet, imbalanced, and make that scratchy noise 100% of the time... I am going to exchange them for another pair later as I can't find the receipt to return them. Maybe I'll get lucky.

The War of the Worlds' track titles make no sense

M'kay, the stupidness of these track title has been bothering me for a while.
For starters, why does Prologue have Morgan Freeman's Narration, but Epilogue does not? You would think that Epilogue would have the epilogue as read by Freeman, but no, instead, it's just Williams end credits.
The Confrontation with Ogilvy? In both scenes that the music from this track score, Ogilvy is not involved. He either hasn't been met yet, or he was dead already.
The Separation of the Family. I kind of see why that title is there as it is perhaps meant to serve as a theme for the family, but that doesn't really make sense to have to music with the Martian dying at the beginning.
The Return to Boston BEFORE Escape From The Basket? If I had not seen the film, and was just reading the track titles, that wouldn't make sense. The return to Boston would have to be towards the end of the movie. But then Escape from the Basket would have to be before. Even just as a listening experience, it makes more sense to have Return to Boston after. It's very triumphant and caps off the action of the album well.
It shouldn't even be called Escape From The Basket. The last 2 and a half minutes are the basket, but the 7 minutes before that are two other scenes, that are related enough that they might claim the track title.
And these titles are extremely redundant sounding. Two "Escape from the..." track titles and two "The... Scene" titles. It sounds so bad to read them off. I hate them.

Hans Zimmer's influence on himself

I often find myself listening to his more recent works, and I can always hear the last score or few scores he made in it. For example, The Dark Knight influenced Frost/Nixon in that a lot of the Joker percussion was reused, Angels & Demons in that complete rip off of "Watch The World Burn", and less so in Sherlock Holmes with the brief use of electric cello which he more or less smacks into the listener's ears with the Joker's theme.

Scores that are made my one cue

I always love those scores where just because of one track, I love them. Field of Dreams for example is pretty mediocre to me until "The Place Where Dreams Come True" which I think is some of Horner's best work. That track alone makes the score for me.
I feel the same way about Howard's Signs score. It's pretty uninteresting until Hand of Fate Pt.1 which really makes the whole score for me.
