Tom 4,658
So, in the context of the poll on Leia's vs Anakin's theme, I mentioned that Leia's theme (and associated concert piece) was among the greatest, if not the greatest, romantic pieces of the 20th century. TGP brushed this aside as hyperbole, and perhaps due to my excessive fondness of Williams, it is.So, what do you (anyone) think the top five classical pieces of the 20th century of the same vein as Leia's theme are? I am not sure the word "romantic" captures what I have in mind, as I don't mean simply a love song. By same vein, I mean lyrical and lush in the romantic classical tradition, a la Tchaikovsky of the 19th century.

Balahkay 627
I would put Tara's Theme from "Gone with the Wind" on that list, especially how it is presented in the opening credits.

Arpy 4,145
I'll second Herrmann's Scene D'Amour. TGP, I've never heard Dives and Lazarus. I think there's a smidgen of what John Powell took for inspiration for HTTYD2 in there. Anyhow, thanks for introducing me to Vaugn Williams! Marian Schedenig 8,193
Strauss: Tod und Verklärung Strauss: Ariadne auf Naxos (Timestamped; the same theme is repeated and varied two more times during the finale) https://youtu.be/VugbX5UgrLY?t=1h41m15s Strauss: Der Rosenkavalier: https://youtu.be/COZLJ1qoFSE?t=1h40m14s ...and again... https://youtu.be/COZLJ1qoFSE?t=1h40m14s ...and again. https://youtu.be/COZLJ1qoFSE?t=1h45m44s Korngold: Die tote Stadt Korngold: Die Katrhin I would have included RVW's Tallis Fantasia, but the theme (obviously) isn't his.
