"Let me say, however, there is no "next" John Williams. Sadly, he is unique--- a figure who simultaneously embodies and transcends the music of all the masters of film music who preceded him (much like Brahms and Wagner of the Romantic era). He comes from a time when the craft of music in film was still one of the ear, heart and mind. Today, sadly, the craft is largely technical. Most composers do not conceive their music "inwardly" but rather at the computer--- and with rather limited skills, musically, at that. The inner spirit knows no boundaries--- our plastic abilities, sadly, do. John is a man of spirit, heart, intellect and soaring music." -- Conrad Pope about John Williams

Human aggression is instinctual. Humans have not evolved any ritualised aggression-inhibiting mechanisms to ensure the survival of the species. For this reason man is considered a very dangerous animal.

My question would be why did he suddenly stop conducting film music concerts with LSO years ago, and apparently won't do it again ...
He finds long distance travelling too uncomfortable.
Tommy's questions will be very good, worry not. Hopefully he'll use some of those good ones posted on the link. I doubt the 'Thomas & the King' one will make the cut though.

Where's the fucking film version of The Never-Feast, old man?!
Ars superior est vita hominum.
"We pop out and come into the world and music is there. We didn't invent it - it's all organised in the atmosphere by divinity or whatever. It's a miracle." - John Williams-
I think music is a stream of some kind. It could be blood. It could be water. It could be ether. Whatever it is it seems to be a living, organic force that’s in motion, that serves humanity and is part of humanity and part of what describes us as humans. We sing, play, dance, all the things that we do. And there is a vibrant and great literature we have been given. ... As musicians, we join the stream. We swim in the stream with all the other millions of music makers. It’s a life force, a strong one, surrounding us and we are part of it. -John Williams-

So this has actually been officially announced (by JW or his agent)? Must've missed it ...

It has never been "officially" announced, but yep, this is the reason why he hasn't left the US soil since 2005.

"Hi everyone - thank you so much for all your questions. I was able to put about 5 of them to John Williams in yesterday's interview. Of course, I can't promise how many of them will make it into the final edit but I hope you'll listen out for the programme later this month - Williams is a fascinating and charming guest, talking about his extraordinary and unparalleled career."
Yay!
