  1. My psychic powers. Feared and adored all around the world!
  2. Since 1995 i beg people to listen to this score with open ears. It got buried under lukewarm reviews and the usual lame brickthrowing at Horner. When i first listened to it i immediately though "Yes, that music is the reason i became a film score fan, anyway" and i'm still quite fond of lots of cues from the generous 75-minute album.
  3. Just let's wait until we haver heard the whole thing before we start nailing the coffin, he?
  4. Let's not forget that Horner is a hired hand. When Cameron demands Apocalypto meets Mighty Joe Young, he will get it.
  5. I hardly post here once in a week. Am i allowed to take a lukewarm position on Potter AND Jurassic Park or have i to reduce my postings to once a year, then?
  6. And considering that Potter I is just warmed-over Williams, no matter how enthusiastic a Williams fanboard may jubilate over it, and the movie isn't brimming with imagination, either, a simple nomination is more than sufficient.
  7. Digital downloads enable you to only buy the good stuff. This may sound like a terribly broad definition, but i hardly need more than 3 or 4 cuts from most albums - and the mp3 era has teached me to be choosy, especially with soundtracks. So this means i seldom pay more than 3 or 4 € per score on iTunes or amazon.
  8. I just can imagine Ms. Schwarzbaum's reaction to Spirit of St. Louis. It certainly would be drowning in dismissals, too.
  9. Yes, i vividly remember all the hype Horner got for doing 'Boy in the Striped Pyjama', 'Life before her Eyes' and dozens of other low profile films...it's just the movie, man!
  10. Great FILM score, just not great stand-alone music (save for the trailer).
  11. Considering the awful second half of District 9, they seem to be the sole reason why the movie could be made at all. I wouldn't believe my eyes when they raped the mild satire form the first 45 minutes with all the razzle dazzle à la Transformers and Iron Man, but i was royally pissed off after the movie was over...
  12. 'IQ' does exist in rather perfect sound...i know, it's not legal but let's be realistic here for a moment: most everyone who so desperately wanted a copy got a copy by now. Same goes for 'Players', which doesn't sound as good because it cries out for a big orchestra (at least for the Korngoldian moments) but was recorded with 40 musicians. 'Black Sunday', on the other hand, only had a shoddy bootleg release and the old Prague re-recording. In this case, my clear favourite is the Williams.
  13. The bridge chase still is a Goldsmith action highlight. Of course it's not on the Varése...
  14. If that's true, the Goldsmith barrel-scraping blossoms to new heights this autumn (after 'Rent-a-Cop'); i guess Goldsmith would care as much as me about the expansion of a hastily written routine score, which even is represented on a (more than adequate) 38-minute regular release...
  15. It does not sound too good, pinchy and compressed, even if it is from the mid-60s. Don't let fool you by those who claim Varése's old version (ca. 1985)is better...it's just another dimension of bad sound, Sony's version sounds more noise-filtered but that's about it. The best thing you can do is to buy Goldsmith conducts Goldsmith (Silva), where he conducts a 17-minute suite containing Overture, First Flight, The Bridge, Attack and Epilogue which sound brilliant.
  16. Why, it's the end of the 'Reivers' Suite, of course!
  17. But nobody knows for sure if he doesn't have to mock-up certain big cues...the prequels come to mind. It certainly would be a wise move considering Lucas' slaphappy way of handling the score.
  18. Josh, you are a prick. Juat accept it and move on.
  19. You obviously don't have the slightest idea what 'technique' or craft means. If you are the most technically proficient composer in history and cannot manage to produce a proper piece of music, you are not the most technically proficient composer in history (in fact, you wouldn't be much of a musician at all)...simple as that.
  20. RIP For Ferris Bueller, Clark Griswold, the teaming of Steve Martin and John Candy plus some wonderful 80s memories!
  21. Care to elaborate? It isn't short (53 minutes), it's not missing anything substantially and the mix sounds ok, even on YouTube.
