  1. With all of the cam bootlegs that are downloadable, most people, even if they do like a new release, aren't likely to slap down money for admission to a cinema more than once for a movie that they really enjoy. I hate going to the movies. I can say, though, that I saw Jurassic Park 3 times. You had to see that in a movie theatre; watching it once it came out on VHS was noticeably less effective.
  2. I think a few years ago I started a thread exactly like this one. Star Wars: brown ESB: blue ROTJ: red I think that we're subconsciously influenced by the ad campaigns for the films, or by color schemes of tie-in products. The blue and red colors no doubt are from this (the novelization for Empire had a blue cover; the Jedi logo was usually in red against black).
  3. The version of the main theme from "The River" as featured on the 40 Years set has percussion that's not so dated. I know what you mean.
  4. Listening to the new Tadlow "Lawrence of Arabia." It is spectacular. You can take your Silva screen release and give it to your dog to play with.
  5. To quote George Takei and C-3PO: "Oh my."
  6. I cannot "do it" to music. It's distracting. Especially if all of the sudden somebody starts in with vocals. I'm a very visual person, and when I hear sounds I immediately am obligated to mentally construct imagery to go with it. I don't want to suddenly visualize an elderly, balding, overweight guy going to work on a cello next to me while I'm taking care of business.
  7. I'm surprised that no one has stepped in with the smug "CDs? People still use those old things?" post. I cannot stand having scratches on my cds OR dvds. Like Trent, I try to just rip them and them put them away.
  8. Anybody know why Spielberg doesn't do commentaries?
  9. What would be fun is if they included the old made-for-tv "making of" specials for each OT film in that upcoming blu-ray. But they won't.
  10. Yeah, Contract on Cherry Street is pretty cool. '70s Goldsmith, you know...
  11. With all of the complaints about the sound, I'm kind of glad that I didn't knee-jerk and buy it.
  12. I hope he was kidding when he said "It's Zorro we're working on......"
  13. Yep. I remember receiving this soundtrack for Christmas in '86, and being slightly appalled by it, especially after being spoiled by STII and III. The main theme absolutely sounds like it was something created for a different project, and was just thrown in. But most of all, I've always hated the sound quality. It sounds like it's a small orchestra, very close to the listener, with no depth. And the hokey-ma-jokey synth tracks don't help either. JG, JG, wherefore art thou, JG?!
  14. I actually remember having an LP of his! RIP
  15. RIP to the man who saved Superman.
  16. Seen him three times at the Hollywood Bowl, never spoken to him. That probably will never happen; I'm not the kind of guy who's pushy enough to get into those situations.
  17. Yeah, it's one of those words that never seems correct.
  18. These are just examples of the indefatigable human brain, not wanting to be a passive listener.
  19. I'm gonna be real predictible and boring, and say Citizen Kane. I first saw it waaaaayy back when I was 17, but I can honestly say that's the last time a movie really "got" me, and became one that I obsessed over and watched a million times.
  20. (sigh) Okay, once and for all, there's no "dark" version of Superman. Superman is like a hot dog, coca-cola, and a pair of Levis. He's Americana. He's not this brooding character like Bats. That's why you never saw, in a comic at least, Superman standing atop the Daily Planet building, crouched down, brow furrowed,.... brooding. Brooding because it's supposed to be cool. Just because. Nope. Superman is about resilience, that's why he exploded on the scene so strongly during the Depression. The guy lost his parents, is the last of his kind, is and will always be an alien on this planet, and yet he can still smile and not walk around pissed off at everyone. He's Superman $*#*@ it!
  21. I've always know I'll go deaf listening to JW. At the factory where I work, they sadly do not allow any listening devices. We have to wear ear plugs/muffs anyways, and it's so $#*#& loud out there that I doubt any ipod could overcome the noise bleed.
  22. If I can't listen to JW, then I just go over to the bad part of town, find some James Horner or something, then come back home, take a scalding shower and tell myself that I'll never do it again.
