  1. The part I find hard to swallow is the "train ride" from Platform 9 3/4 to Hogsmeade. It's certainly possible, but they would have to significantly change the back lot. From a guest's perspective it's no big deal, but a lot of the employee operations back there might be disrupted. They would have to move a lot around . . . which I just don't see happening. I can buy into a "London" section in Universal, as they would "force" a lot of people into getting a two-park pass (I assume most do anyway), but I still think London will take up almost the rest of Lost Continent, and they'll throw Transformers over in Amity. Just my guess.
  2. While there weren't any standouts for me (at least on the first couple of listens), I found the score to be much like the film; a delight to sit through.
  3. I wasn't talking about books though, more specifically about CDs, movies, and games. With those, you know exactly what you're getting, so for me it makes no sense to go to a store and seek what you want and take the chance that it most likely won't be there. If you're just browsing for books, by all means go into a B&N, flip through the first chapter, etc. I can't speak for everyone, but that's certainly the case for me most of the time. Although I rarely order just one item. I'll wait until there's maybe 2 or 3 CDs (or Blu-rays, games, etc.) before I place an order. When it came to War Horse, and because it's a Williams score to a Spielberg flick, I figured I'd go ahead and give the local shops a shot. It's not rare to see a recent (or in this case, up and coming) blockbuster's score in Best Buy or Barnes and Noble. Not only that, but there's the sensation of picking up a score in store that's exciting. Sure, in the long run "owning a score" is the same no matter how you obtained it, but being able to unwrap that package and have the first track playing before I even leave the parking lot is a precious moment to me. I acknowledge that I'm clinging on to a bit of my childhood with that action, but it was well worth it.
  4. Well, went on a bit of a trek to pick this up today. I was keeping my eye out for Hugo and HP Pt. 2 as well. Best Buy had HP, but not the other two. Target didn't have shit (no surprise there) and Barnes and Noble had one copy of War Horse. I'm not surprised, but I still find it sad the lack of support for this album in stores. Yeah, CDs have been on the decline for a while, and film scores aren't really "hot shit" but still . . . ah well. Can't be too sad with the addition of another Williams score.
  5. Duel of the Fates. It's certainly the better stand-alone track, but it's also the greater piece of music. We dwell on jwfan.net, so we aren't exactly on the pulse of the mainstream community, but Duel of the Fates was on freakin' TRL. People know that track, whether they're into SW or not. That's how great a piece DOTF is; everyone loves it. Now, Battle of the Heroes does a fantastic job at what it sets out to do, in that it adds this epic, yet personal, weight to the battle on Mustafar, but it's not nearly as memorable, it feels a tad more repetitive and it just doesn't get the blood pumping like the former.
  6. In searching for a Limited Edition title to order along with Midway, it seems The Ghostbreaker is down to 252 copies. How is this score? Given that it was only for a TV pilot, I was going to order NWMWYD! Vol. II, but I'd hate to miss out if it's really worth owning.
  7. 1304 copies remaining, for anyone interested. I think I'll order mine today, just to be on the safe side.
  8. Trailer looks great! I was even more excited when I saw the director did, 'Let the Right One In.' And I'll be damned, but I've never given the Wolfman score the time of the day because the movie sucked such massive balls. However, I loved what I heard in the trailer. Looks like I'll have to seek that one out.
  9. I love Bear McCreary. I think he made amazing strides in quality from the first season of Battlestar to the last. But a lot of what I've heard since then sounds the same. The score to Dark Void, a bit of what someone posted from Socom 4, as well as Human Target. Maybe it's those taiko drums, I dunno, but it still feels like he's stuck in Battlestar land. Powell has grown as a composer, but he's saddled with a lot of boring projects in my opinion. A part of what made Williams so great is that he had great material to work with. What has Powell had? A lot of animated flicks. Don't get me wrong, there's great material to be found there (HTTYD anyone?) but I wish he'd get something epic. Look at what he did with X-Men 3. Not perfect, but easily the best score of those movies. My vote goes to John.
  10. A friend asked me this and I honestly don't know, so I figured I'd ask the collective here. What other animated movies has Williams scored, if any?
  11. I grew up on the Bond films and he was as integral to those movies as the actors who portrayed Bond. What a great composer. Rest in peace.
  12. They're in three different spots at Dervish and Banges. One spot is in the Owl Post (connected to Dervish) in the corner. The second is at the main Dervish registers. The third is right outside in the Owlery, at a table they have set up with postcards, stamps and other stationery.
  13. I've actually never listened to a Star Trek score outside of the movie (with the exception of Giacchino's) . . . I just never got around to ordering II or III, so I'm pretty excited to get my hands on this one.
  14. You have a lot of the good stuff. From rough glance, you just need Amazing Stories Volumes I and II, the Star Wars Anthology, the old Jaws, the older E.T.'s, Close Encounters, Towering Inferno (good luck) and the Gerhardt Star Wars trilogy. Then you're set for life. Right on. I've acquired Amazing Stories I and III since then. Will work on the rest!
  15. I laid my collection out and took a picture to post on Facebook one day. Pretty average, I imagine, for these boards but leagues ahead of anyone I know in "real life." I'm still catching up though. Usually I just keep on eye out on the Low Quantity Alerts thread, and order when necessary. Not that I don't love the early stuff, but I gotta pay the bills! http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/photo.php?fbid=471600892288&set=a.471600547288.242868.749512288
  16. Thanks for the update, as always. Hello Man Who Loved Cat Dancing!
  17. Thanks a lot Low Quantity Alerts thread . . . now I'm out $60. On the flip side, I am expecting Amazing Stories Volumes I and III in the mail . . .
  18. As previously stated, I'm really shocked to find this thread here. Dream Theater's been my favorite band the better part of this decade and this news delivered a crushing blow . . . been spending a lot of time on the DT forums discussing this with other fans. I will say that I'm happy JP seems to be stepping up to the plate, even going as far as answering a lot of questions on his forum.
  19. I started working there a little over a month ago in Dervish and Banges. I also work at a Borders book store, but working in the Wizarding World is fun. It's always busy, so that makes the time fly. The people I work with are a really cool group too.
  20. I couldn't quite tell from the pictures, but is there a box inside that you're able to put on a shelf, alongside other Blu-rays and such?
  21. Bumping this mostly for myself to keep track. Just ordered Amazing Stories Anthology II (along with Back to the Future), as well as John Goldfarb, Please Come Home (along with Batman).
  22. The sound should be almost identical. I don't think Varese did much tweaking with some of scores they reissued from the Ryko catalogue. Cool. Thanks for the info.
  23. Just picked up The Missouri Breaks at FYE for about 4 bucks. Looks to be the original release. Can anyone tell me if the sound is identical to the newer Varese Sarabande release? The track titles are the same.
  24. Very cool idea for a game! However, I do share a computer with my roommate, so I'll have to factor her songs in. Track 1 Guess: No clue, I know I should know it, as it's a popular song, and was featured in Guitar Hero 3. Actual: Everlong by Foo Fighters (Damn it, I should know that!) Track 2 Guess: I'm guessing The Sword (as it was said in the song). Don't know the title of the track or album though. I'll guess self-titled.. Actual: This is Madness by Taking Dawn (?) from the God of War: Blood and Metal EP. Track 3 Guess: Let's see, some whiny singer, so no clue. Actual: State of the Union by Rise Against on Siren Song of the Counter Culture. Track 4 Guess: Again, not one of mine. Clueless. Actual: Reckless Abandon by Blink 182 on Take Off Your Pants and Jacket. (Feel bad I didn't wait longer, I probably could've guess the group) Track 5 Guess: Finally, a film score! From the new Star Track album, Chutes and Matter by Michale Giacchino. Helps I've been listening to this all day (Just got it in the mail). Actual: Chutes and Matter by Michael Giacchino on Star Trek (Deluxe Edition) Track 6 Guess: Another rock track I'm not familiar with. Nirvana? I'm probably way off. Actual: Tired of You by Foo Fighters on One by One. Track 7 Guess: I'm going to guess Linkin Park. Let's see if the chorus will reveal a track name . . . I'm guessing, I Wont Be Ignored. Actual: Faint by Linkin Park on Meteroa. Track 8 Guess: Eesh, no clue. Actual: To Them These Streets Belong by Rise Against on Siren Song. Track 9 Guess: Johnny Cash . . . Ring of Fire? I'm not too familiar with this music. I'll guess self-titled since I have no clue. Actual: Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash on The Legend of Johnny Cash (I'm giving myself the points for that!) Track 10 Guess: Alright! Drown with Me by Porcupine Tree on We Lost the Skyline. Actual: Drown with Me by Porcupine Tree on We Lost the Skyline. Points: 10/30 Fun game, although only two of the tracks played were actually mine. I can see how just a collection of your music would be good though.
