CapitalJ reacted to Will in Favorite short musical moments in Williams scores?
Been running through my head on repeat in the last few hours:
That transition from Leia's theme to Luke's is perfect.

CapitalJ reacted to Not Mr. Big in Favorite short musical moments in Williams scores?
The face-morphing music from 3:45 of The Last Battle from Saving Private Ryan.

CapitalJ reacted to m0hawk in Hans Zimmer and Mozart
Yeah, definitely a reference. But really, considering the quality of the entire score, Zimmer is easily forgiven. "To Die For" is one of those cues that, when listened to outside of the movie, triggers off such a devastating emotional reaction. Does this happen to anyone else?

CapitalJ reacted to Dixon Hill in What film score theme/melody is going through your head right now?
This totally vintage Zimmer track. Makes me smile and bang my head up and down.
And I like hearing the strings on their own here at 0:22.

CapitalJ got a reaction from Cerebral Cortex in What film score theme/melody is going through your head right now?
Marion's Theme and Raider's March have been stuck in my head the past couple days. I've been listening to all of the Indy soundtracks, and I had to go and watch Raiders of the Lost Ark last night since I haven't seen it in awhile. I'll probably watch 2,3, and 4 the next few nights. I always loved the Raider's March theme, but once I bought the full soundtrack collection I realized how many good tracks are on each of the Indy soundtracks. It's another album where I can listen to the entire album track by track like I've done with the Star Wars scores, Jurassic Park, Jaws, etc...

CapitalJ reacted to Loert in Which, of these choices, is your favorite Indiana Jones Track?
Yes, YES!!! I love that bit (I did a post on why here), but I also like the lead-in into that march from the Raiders March, when the snare drum comes in. TLC's credits are gorgeous too, though. TLC is more "religioso" whereas TOD is more upbeat. If I could, I would pick all of the options...
Indeed! A bit like how Rey's theme and the Force theme play together in the TFA end credits.

The film version of the ToD end credits, where Williams combines Short Round's Theme with the Raiders March. Williams bliss!

Me too. It was tough, but I chose TOD end credits, for the same reasons you mentioned.

And you've got to love Indy sharing his theme a little with Short Round!

Do you mean 2:23 to 2:43? If you do, that is my favorite part of that track as well. The reason I like TLC's end credits more is mainly due to 0:40 to 1:05.

They're all bloody brilliant tbh.
But I went with TOD End Credits. It's got my favourite version of The Slave Children's Crusade and my favourite version of the Love Theme (film version!).

CapitalJ reacted to Cerebral Cortex in Which, of these choices, is your favorite Indiana Jones Track?
Agreed. Probably one of my favorite bits of music in general, coinciding nicely with one of my favorite film endings of all time.

I love the trumpets that play during Indy's flight to Venice in TLC:

They remind me a bit of the trumpets in Farewell and the Trip from TFA (starting from 0:48). Has that same celebratory quality:
(interestingly, the woodwinds at about 0:10 in that TLC excerpt are reminiscent of the woodwinds at 1:51 in Indy's Very First Adventure from the same score:
)

Speaking of The Last Crusade, I've always been fond of this bit at 2:30 to 2:35 where Williams tricks us into thinking we're getting a full statement of Indy's theme but instead quickly switches back to the Nazi theme.

CapitalJ reacted to Dixon Hill in What film score theme/melody is going through your head right now?
1:05 is always what I end up playing when I mess around with low brass samples.

Oh yeah.

CapitalJ reacted to leeallen01 in JURASSIC PARK - Live to Projection Concerts
I've seen both Giacchino's Treks live and both were brilliant. There's many individual moments to anticipate and enjoy live. Like hearing the piano and the building theme for Khan was wonderful, as was the Spock/Khan fight when Giacchino fights their themes against each other. And the brass of Nero's Theme is one of the most enjoyably powerful themes to fill a concert hall.

Can you imagine a live to projection of Temple of Doom? That film is practically non-stop, wall-to-wall Williams.

CapitalJ reacted to nightscape94 in JURASSIC PARK - Live to Projection Concerts
I love how this is becoming a growing enterprise.

CapitalJ reacted to Sharkissimo in JURASSIC PARK - Live to Projection Concerts
I'd be interesting to hear Denis Steals the Embryos live.

CapitalJ reacted to Incanus in What film score theme/melody is going through your head right now?
Irina's Theme from Indy IV. The Golden Age film noir suavity of the theme is simply gorgeous. I wish some orchestra would finally re-record the concert version of it along with the concert version of Marion's Theme.

CapitalJ reacted to Hlao-roo in John Williams talks The Force Awakens
Was not aware of this word's secondary definition. From ephemeral to antediluvian I continue to learn more vocabulary from John Williams interviews than I do anywhere else!

CapitalJ reacted to MikeH in Williams interview on Classical KUSC (February 11)
I liked the moment when JW said that while scoring the action sequences, he often asks himself if he's overwriting. That might account for his slightly more streamlined approach to TFA. Referring to the 3 hours of score, he said that they're limited to the amount of music they can put on one CD, but that they just might have to release some more
