And you'll have to make a video of it, but that's probably easy with a notation software like Sibelius.
The video itself is probably the easiest part. I've already searched for the hashtag, and it seems that people either film themselves performing the piece, or just put up some random background for the music. Screencapping Sibelius or whatever program you use is also an option, of course. The visual element isn't too important, I think.

I just learned that this is the Civilization VI main theme. Fun piece!
Yeah, Civilization brought me to Christopher Tin. He also wrote Baba Yetu, if you've heard of that piece.

A knowledge of harmony definitely helps, but there are a lot of chord / key signature tables online to help you out if you don't have that stuff memorized. I am no wizard, so my plan is to just try out some semi-random chords, guided by those tables, and see what sounds good, and what kind of chord progressions I can create from it.
The only issue is that he wants the submissions done before the 10th of January, so I doubt I'll have enough time.

I'd love to hear something you've composed.
I haven't composed anything concrete yet, so I don't have anything to show. Getting into music composition, even if at an amateur level, is one of my New Year's resolutions, though. I have some musical ideas written down, so I hope to develop them within the coming months.

Ok, I watched more of the video, and that is just a bass player. Berlin could only play the piano (and barely at that).

Well, it's not like I tried to hide it.
I know, it's mostly my own fault for not spending enough time at JWFan. I don't look through all the forums that I should.

I can't see him.
I don't know how Irving Berlin looks like, but since that guy was so emphasized in that piece, I figured that it might be him. Or that might be just a bass player, I have no idea.

That's a nice idea for a competition! I would've chimed in with something less than listenable if I had known about it earlier
By the way, if anyone is up for some more composing challenges, here is one I saw just now, announced by Christopher Tin:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5d5r5wXfKQ

Is that Irving Berlin at 31:38-32:39?

Yes, but did you know the Philharmoniker use "a variety of classical instruments"?
Oh wow, I thought that the players were just for show, and that the actual music came from a DAW somewhere in the back of the hall -

I really enjoyed the episodes with Paul Wright! I just love how he delves into the musicological aspects, the philosophy of music, and even the psychology. So cool to have a knowledgeable co-host like him!

If only Ed Sheeran had done a cameo in one of the tracks.
They could've done a collaboration album. I've always wanted to hear how that iconic music would sound like if it were set to lyrics that is considered to be profound by 13-year-olds.

150 million streams, my ass. No chance.
If people can stream single Ed Sheeran songs more than 2.5 billion times, I think that 150 million streams for an album by the most famous film composer is a perfectly achievable feat. Also, DG have been marketing and advertising the album like never before.

According to Pressparty:
QuoteNow, Deutsche Grammophon/Universal Music Canada, the country's leading music company, is offering fans a new Live Edition, featuring six bonus tracks and on-stage commentary from the composer. The double‑CD is set for release on February 5, to coincide with Williams’ 89th birthday three days later.

Tchaikovsky = Williams x Brahms / Morricone .
So, we cannot really say that Tchaikovsky was the John Williams of his time. I would rather say, Tchaikovsky was the John Williams times Brahms divided by Morricone, of his time. I hope this makes sense.
Note that this is only true for Morricone, where {Morricone∈ℝ∣Morricone≠0}

I've just listened to this latest episode from 99% Invisible, which covers their composer Sean Real, and how she wrote and performed a really nice score using a music box:
https://link.tospotify.com/cPQqE8PrEbb
An alternative way to listen to the episode is through their main website: https://99percentinvisible.org/episode/sean-exploder/
Sean Real has also produced her own record from the music that she has written for the podcast, which is available in many different formats, both physical and digital: https://seanreal.bandcamp.com/album/sean-real-their-99-orchestra
I highly recommend listening to this! The podcast in general is also one of the best out there.

That's not the remark I was referring to. It was an interview done this year, I think.
Did he say he disliked Wagner's music specifically, or was he talking about his person, i.e. antisemitism?
If I recall correctly, he mentioned Wagner in one of the bonus interviews on the Vienna Blu-ray release, but I'll have to double check that. I don't actually remember what he said.

Yeah, I have the CD, it's pretty good. I had made a thread on the Kickstarter campaign, actually:
