Simon McBride reacted to Marc in Marc Papeghin's Horn/Trumpet Covers
How to Train Your Dragon was scored for one of the biggest brass sections I've ever seen, no less than 4 trumpets, 6 trombones, 2 tubas and 12 french horns (!)
I re-recorded all of the horns and trumpets from the Counter Attack cue, fun stuff

Simon McBride got a reaction from Nick1Ø66 in Anime suggestions wanted
Miyazaki made a tv show call Future Boy Conan. I haven't seen it, but it's Miyazaki and takes place in the future. Also, how about Akira. There's a good chance she's already seen it though as it's pretty famous. Can't say I'm too well versed in anime to be of much more help.

Simon McBride reacted to Gruesome Son of a Bitch in What Is The Last Film You Watched? (Older Films)
I saw a preview of it on HBO. Looked like a meta Hollywood love letter, which I have no interest in seeing. It's rare that I enjoy anything set in LA. Ed Wood is a mega rare exception where it's even about filmmaking. Or ID4, of course, where it's destroyed by aliens.

Simon McBride reacted to Brónach in Star Wars IX The Rise of Skywalker (JJ Abrams 2019)
There are stitches everywhere in that film. Like Maz Kanata could be cool in a granny pirate way like Castle in the Sky, but she just there for a while stopping the film dead in its tracks. Another stitch in that sequence is the characters seeing the planet destruction from the ground.
It's a pity, because the first act is cool. And I really like Kylo Ren.

Luckily, Spielberg is watching these developments and scheduling 2-3 films for around the time Episode IX will be released.

Simon McBride reacted to Will in John Williams to be honored by Boston College

Williams apparently conducted at the 2007 Pops on the Heights fundraiser (article: http://newspapers.bc.edu/cgi-bin/bostonsh?a=d&d=bcheights20071001.2.103), but it is unclear if he will do anything this year (perhaps a piece or two?), given that Lockhart will be there.

Simon McBride reacted to Bespin in R.I.P. Jerry Lewis
Jerry with a very local Québécois clown, Jacques Desrosiers.
I was not a fan of Jerry, but if a paradise of clowns exist, it must be funnier from today.
Jacques Desrosiers, Jerry Lewis and Jean Lesage, PM of Québec at the time.
Jacques and Jerry few years later. They both participated in telethons for children.

Simon McBride reacted to artguy360 in What is your favorite obscure motif from Star Wars?
As noted above, Shmi's motif is the most tender of all the minor SW motifs. It also reminds me of the hidden richness of JW's score for TPM. No Star Wars score since has approached that level of intricate detail and sensitivity.

Simon McBride reacted to Balahkay in What is your favorite obscure motif from Star Wars?
Shmi's motif, I guess you could call it.
I love this as well, but I still think Finn's Confession was a coincidence on Williams part. Regardless of how it got there, it's there and presents a tender way to open a cue.

Simon McBride got a reaction from Will in Some thoughts on film and emotion
Interesting thoughts about the separate nature of philosophy and entertainment. I've found that my favorite films (and other media) are ones that can very successfully blend the two. That's why I like Miyazaki so much as a director. I can be entertained fully during the film, while it still makes me think later on with all of his movies. Take My Neighbor Totoro for example. The film exudes such a fun atmosphere that perfectly captures the wonders of childhood. Yet at the same time, I leave the movie thinking about growing up, and how much I had changed over the course of my childhood. The enjoyable aspect of film combined with the psychological/artistic/deep aspects of film and how they interact has major effects on how I view a film.
I loved what you said about comedies too. A personal observation that I've made, is that in general, comedies receive lower ratings than more "serious" films. I feel that many critics try too hard to view all film with the same set of eyeglasses, and totally fail to miss the intent and/or the context of a film.
