I was honored to do an interview with Elliot Goldenthal during the FMF in Krakow! It was nerve-wracking, but it was a very pleasant conversation!

I will be hearing it live again in a month in Prague: https://www.filmmusicprague.com/program/?lang=en#remember-them-charity-gala
This piece really grew on me. I am really looking forward to hear it again.

That one took me a LOOOOOOOONG while to find out.

For who is interested, I just published my report on this concert.

Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam is one of the best venues in Europe (IMHO) 🙂
Our concert was amplified, unfortunately.

Edit: I found a few links to a not halfbad recording of it. (Though this concert was in a different place than where I saw it, and only has like 4 of the 20 pieces used)
1Thank you for those movies. Apparently, it is from the first show of the tour in Eindhoven. I went to their concert in Groningen.

What were the lyrics and who wrote them?
That is exactly my question as well 🙂 I assume they were added later? Was Williams involved?

I have attended a lot of film music concerts in my recent years, but yesterday I experienced something new. It was a concert wherein the second half only Star Wars music was played. That half started with The Imperial March... with choir.... and with lyrics. Not only had they added choir parts to that amazing piece, but the choir also sang during the Main Theme, The Asteroid Field and Across the Stars.
I am extremely conflicted by it. On one side, it sounded new and interesting. On the other side, the film music purist in me hated it. One thing was clear to me: It did not work in Across the Stars. The oboe and harp parts are too delicate to have 50-person choir singing over them.
Have some of you heard this before and has any of you any idea what kind of lyrics they are singing?

I have finished my report on that concert. We were quite lucky that it was one day before the John Williams one. A long weekend with film music!

I still haven't listened to this. Is it better than Zimmer's M:I II?
I love that score to be honest

The official info is that they looked for a substitute conductor when they got news of JW being unable to conduct, but nobody was available on such short notice. That being said, I guess one of the key factors that convinced the Wiener music direction to agree on a program of mostly film music was the fact JW himself would have been conducting.
They should have had a plan B, as Royal Albert Hall had done.

There's Jay too.
Is it Thor, the one holding the beer?
Thor always holds a beer. Sorry that I could not have made it this time. Would have loved to meet you all. It looks like you had a great time.

If I can make it (and nothing goes wrong in my travelling plans tomorrow), I'll be there too. Not a big fan, but I was offered a free ticket. Anyone else from JWFAN going to this?
Duh 🙂

Dear Customer,
A Celebration of John Williams in Concert - Friday 26 October 2018
Unfortunately, owing to a last-minute illness, John Williams greatly regrets that he is no longer able to conduct this concert with the London Symphony Orchestra.
John travelled to London but was taken ill and is in hospital, where he is receiving very good care. It is his wish that the performance should go ahead, and his colleague and dear friend Maestro Dirk Brossé has kindly agreed to conduct the LSO for this very special event.
Mr. Williams’ management said:
"John is so sorry that an illness prevents him from conducting Friday's concert, and he’s grateful to his friend Maestro Dirk Brossé for taking the podium in his place. He so wishes he could be with everyone, and the knowledge that 5,000 of his friends will be joining together to celebrate his music is a great comfort to him as he recovers. He wishes everyone a very joyous evening of music.”
Brossé is Music Director of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, and John Williams chose him as Principal Conductor of the Star Wars in Concert World Tour.
The Royal Albert Hall, London Symphony Orchestra and Dirk Brossé wish Maestro Williams well for a speedy recovery.
We do hope that you will enjoy this very special evening. If you have any questions please contact the box office on 020 7589 8212 with the name and order number attached to your booking.
If you have booked Hospitality tickets we will contact you directly.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Royal Albert Hall on Friday.
Yours faithfully,
Royal Albert Hall

Currently in Pula, Croatia — drinking strong Belgian beers (yes, they have that here). For the film music festival here (I was in the jury). Will try to save some drinking energy for next week, but can’t guarantee anything at this point.
I hate you right now I really need to visit that festival!

Happy Birthday!
Cannot wait to see him for the third time this year in Prague!

Hoe does contactless work when you are reaching the maximum amount for that day?
Oyster keeps track of that.

I watched the movie yesterday. IMHO the score is a mix of beautiful new music and fan service to some of his old themes. One moment: BRILLIANT musically. 🙂
