Ii2 reacted to Bespin in New article: Williams "has so far written about 25 minutes of score in about a month" for The Rise of Skywalker
This article is old, JW has written 32 minutes of music by now.

I do think Williams will write such a variation... but it will not sound the way most are expecting.
Good... because I'm sure that TROS (the film and score) will be full of 'subverted expectation' moments. We are in for quite a ride!

To which JW replied "That's OK, I always wanted to be a professional golfer anyway!"

Besides for that microphone squeak in 2:29, I would say not bad at all.

Thanks!
I agree, the album version of Buffalo Hunt is well worth relistening to!

Fingers crossed for a whizz-bang of a Rey's Theme variation when she hops over Kylo's ship!

Ii2 reacted to Tom in VOTE! Galaxy's Edge by John Williams - how do you like it?
I never said his top piece. I said in the top 20. So, for instance, the recent Dudamel collection featured his greatest hits in terms of typical fans. What I am saying is that down the road, I think Galaxy's edge will be on such albums. Heck, I think it would be middle-tier piece on that album right now.

Ii2 reacted to The Illustrious Jerry in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story (2021)
That's a far more bearable example of Spielberg's frolicking side than anything that Ready Player One conjured up.

Looks like The Bangles won't be be able to be at the concert this weekend. No idea why.

I haven't got it, but your review is quite infectious!

Ii2 reacted to John in What are your favorite shots in a movie?
There's a difference, imo, between massively rehauling the original cut of a film years after its release and leaving the revised version the only one available on the market, and shortening an original cut after the premiere due to criticism.

Ii2 reacted to Oomoog the Ecstatic in VOTE! Galaxy's Edge by John Williams - how do you like it?
I'll base my rating on 2 factors averaged.
1. Based on Tiers of JW's works only, Tier 1-5: I'll put it at Tier 1 compared to everything else's he's done. Firstly, can't say that it's inventive or unique when compared to just about any score he's written, and as someone pointed out, JW's known for absolute stunning melodic work (ie. The Banquet, Raiders, E.T., Star Wars, Jurassic Park). This melodic writing, which is a portion of this rating, is mostly flat and indiscernible. The orchestration on the other hand, compared to what he usually does (ie. lots of unique and thrilling fantasies and emotions) this orchestration is just 'okay' to me in its provocation which keeps it at Tier 1 Williams. It has reminiscence to the prequel SWs, but I like them better based on other reasons. I think if Williams wrote a sister-suite in a different style, I may enjoy it more.
2. Based on all works by all musicians, Tier 1-5: I'll put it at Tier 2. Williams is indeed my favorite musician, since he takes so many of the best inventions from the past and makes something incredibly memorable and beautiful by combining and reworking them, or sometimes something deeply mood-provoking, but the theme or evocation of this piece is not really my favorite style. In fact the introduction (not the rest) sounds like an average composer's work.
Average: 1.5
Final rounded rating:
2⭐
(I'll round up because it's John the Bomb Williams and I will always put him in + favor)

Ii2 reacted to mstrox in Star Wars is better than everything
If we weren't getting a ton of live action Star Wars content (much more than 2 hours a year!) I'd be kind of bummed, but waiting three years for another movie is fine
