  1. I do agree that AI, SPR and MR are not exactely my favorite JW score also. I think that the composition process of these scores were more based on a technical, "thinkable", perhaps phylosophical point of view rather than a essentially sensitive one (such as E.T. or TLW). I do like these scores, but it's true that we've been used to have melodicaly influenced music background in previous Spielberg movies. In most movies it's the same way. A few composers (I'm currently thinking of Howard Shore and James Newton-Howard) are slightly different: they do prefer some intravenous, uneasy and ominous music layout rather that balistic and sometimes bashing music à la Zimmer. Concerning JW, I'm often not convinced by this style of film music in his composition process (i want to pin out the exceptionaly great CEOT3K) That doesn't mean i'm always satisfied with his melodical compositions (HP2, Always, BOT4OJ...) but anyway... I think the issue is in the style of the music you hear in a movie, and maybe the surprises (good or bad) that you have when seeing it scored a different way you would expect. A good example of that is the score for "The Hours". It worked very well on the movie, very interessting and deep meaning, very relevant way which underlined the main issue of the movie... but I quite really didn't like it. I just didn't fell for it. But I would'nt jeopardise the great way that Glass elaborated his musical point of view. I think it's all in this comprehension of musical technical kraft, and emotional and sensitive needs.
  2. Just a little correction. Not all Zelda music was composed by Koji Kondo. All but one: Zelda 2, the Adventure of Link The music was composed by Akito Nakatsuka.
  3. Yes, a bit mushy sometimes, but a great idea. It is indeed. In fact, they've been 5 Orchestral Game Concert Music CDs released so far.
  4. E.T.'s documentaries were exceptionnal. They were a blessing for all JW fan. But we can expect this to come back again. I'm thrilled by the 12 minutes of the music featurette on the DVD. :spiny:
  5. Well, I don't think so. Perhaps the films are the worst Star Trek episodes ever. (I really don't know, I've never seen one Star Trek Film). As for the series I really don't think Star Trek is dying. Maybe you're seeing star trek as the first original series as you saw when you were younger. But for me, Star Trek is the Next Generations. For other, It will be Deep Space 9 (which I personnaly hate). Younger ones will discover star trek with Voyager. Different state of recognition, and those who knew the other shows won't like the newer one for sure (or at least a few exceptions). I do think however they're making too much on it in such a short time.
  6. All Zelda's game music was written by Koji Kondo (who's also the composer of Mario's music)

    Santa

Are you kidding ? Is this true ???!!!
  8. I've myself conducted in Paris videogame music. But it was in a mixed program and was never aknowledge as the first videogame concert, but... anyway...
  9. Finally... it happens in Europe.
  10. Congratulations I remember the first film score I had to conduct... what an excitment (but also a burden) it was !! So difficult, so technical with the synchro... But anyway, i wish you all the best for this project, and also the others to come :spiny: Philippe
  11. I'll keep you informed for the concert in Paris in Fall (or December) 2003.
  12. I didn't even noticed your signature until I was to post. I only noticed your Homer head screenpicture. Anyway, I'm not aware myself of this film, but I hope Horner won't screw it and will be able to empower the meaning of the film, such as Rosza's Ben Hur. Philippe
  13. I've been also looking for that myself. What I did was buying the sheet music for violin/piano and made my annotations PBL
  14. I was travelling in Prague when the film came out here in Europe. All the theaters wrote it "Jursky Park" ... I was already impressed by the banners and the pictures, and couldn't wait coming back to see it.
  15. COULD ..... NOT ...... AGREE ..... MORE! With that one 200%! I miss Ricard's "No it's not It's Temple of Doom ! "
  16. Well, I'm currently planning a JW concert for autumn here in Paris with my orchestra... The thing is I only can program what I know is available to purchase first, then on rental (but so expensive). So here's two lists. The first is what I surely will do, the second what I would like to do: Superman march, Raiders March, ET Adventures on Earth, Lost World Main Title, Schindler's List, Harry Potter (Hedwig's Theme and Harry's Wondrous World) Star Wars: Main Title - Princess Leia - Anakin's Theme - Imperial March - Yoda - Love Theme - Throne Room (encore: Duel of the Fates) What I would have wanted to be able to perform - Scherzo for motorcycle & orchestra - The Asteroid Field / Hyperspace / The Death Star - CEOT3K Suite - Jane Eyre Suite - The Fury exerpts - Hook Suite
  17. Tell me about Oboes and low register... and also when they're cleaning their instrument by blowing and making an awful sound...
  18. Williams uses trombones in many ways: - to support harmonicaly a entire section, like in Star Wars main Title several times (this can be heard also with a syncopated rythm for example in Yoda's Theme, Love Theme Ep II, Raiders March middle section) - to make a imitation of mostly trumpets (in Raiders march at the end) - to renforce the strengh of the tense point (in Imperial March, 3 soli trombones can be heard at 20 sec before the end) - few loud notes in the low register played shortly (in Jurassic Park for example) Violas are maybe the thoughest instrument to be heard. However, they do have a role, mostly in Williams score, they put the color on the harmony: - in Love Theme Ep. II, they are the one that make the little melody at the very beginning - in Schindler's List, they do match with the English horn very often. - they are the one who plays the motiv of the Duel of the Fates... great solo don't you think ?
  19. Arggghghh.... visions of horror.... Philippe - who'll sure have wanted to hear selections of Gold member by Williams... LOL
  20. I just remarked your signature... where the hell did you find that one ??
  21. Miguel, Miguel.... how do you get those incredible info about things... And who's your dear friend of yours living in Paris ? I definitely should meet him (or better, her...)
  22. Have fun travelling and discover some new horizons. And make everyone convert to the highest religion above all: the John Williams worship.
  23. This track is beautiful indeed on the album, but the concert version (it was released on the internet a few years ago) is simply amazing... that made me cry .
