More or less, according to someone who's seen the movie several times in Japan. The more I listen to it, the more I freakin' love it.

@GojiraAre there two different figures by Bandai?
Nope. It's the same figure - I just closed the mouth on one of them
And a second one is coming with the Godzilla Store exclusive Bluray set. With blue transparent back plates and the mouth wide open (Atomic version, as Giftheck said).
As a collector, I wanted that Atomic vers. at first sight. But the set is expensive and I don't really have any need for aJ apanese version without english subtitles. But what really did sold it for me was the download link to another 20+ tracks of yet unreleased Godzilla S.P. music.
The set is still up for preorder, but you will need a proxy service since the Godzilla store doesn't ship internationally

Some FYI for those interested.
Since I have all the Godzilla scores in my collection, I went ahead and purchased GvsK.
I had bought KOTM at FYE and it was a regular CD. So I tried my luck again and ordered GvsK from them. I can't tell if this is a CD-R, but I'm thinking it is. The coloring is off just a hair.
There is no orchestra credit at all on the CD. There's an "Additional Music By" credit and an orchestration credit. It appears to be all Synth and done at his studio.
I remember a time when "composed and performed by" was written on a record/CD in a case like this...

At least Junkie's contribution doesn't diminish the wealth of great music written for the big G. I'm about to make my peace with the score for GvK

Confession time: I listen to Holkenborg's score alot right now, mainly because I'm a sucker for all things Godzilla and that's all there is to have of Godzilla vs. Kong in my part of the world since the movie theaters are closed and HBO Max not available. Eather the music did grow a little on me or I just got used to it by now but I enjoy it more now than right after the release. But I also think it's a rather weak entry in Holkenborg's cataloge. I dig his Fury Road a lot and there is good stuff in Alita. GvK seems quite uninspired in comparision.

Nope. It's the opening of "Godzilla Main Title" (which is part of the end credits in the movie) in KOTM. The same motive pops up for the first time 1962 in the opening from "Godzilla's resurrection" (on Lalaland's King Kong vs. Godzilla disc).
And Junkie sort of "abbreviated" this motiv for his Godzilla theme (or used it as "inspiration", if you wanna call it that way)

Junkie XL talks about the Godzilla vs Kong score
Biggest bruh moment in that article is him saying that the classic Godzilla themes would not work in a modern setting. Dude... your score comes right after one that successfully updated them. Also, the majority of those themes were written when Godzilla was still an antagonist.
On a slightly different note, my personal favourites from the Japanese films are the original 1954 film's score, Godzilla vs Destroyah, and Shin Godzilla.
Maybe Junkie was just pissed that Bear grabbed the 62 King Kong vs. Godzilla theme for KOTM
My favorite Ifukube scores are Godzilla, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II and Godzilla vs. Destoroyah. Monstrous music, monstrous fun scores. Recently I rediscovered Godzilla's Revenge (1969) from Kunio Miyauchi: such a charming score for a charming movie (yes, the King of the Monsters is also a master of versatility and can be charming too)

I also have to give thumbs up to Michiru Oshima for her scores in the Millennium series.
Yes, Oshima is great! I love every entry of hers in the series

Discuss music for any Godzilla movie/anime here. Please refrain from spoilers as long as a movie or series is still fresh and not released worldwide (like GvK right now: no release date in Europe due Covid 19), thanks!
Let me start with Holkenborg's Godzilla vs. Kong: A huge disappointment to me, mainly because of an uninspired theme for Godzilla. Kong's theme is better (maybe because of the little girl's bond to Kong as seen in trailers) but the bulk of the score is quite generic and nondescript action stuff which could be from any other action movie. Rarely there is a "monstrous" feel to the music. But since I cannot see the movie in Switzerland right now, the music is all there is to get my Godzilla vs. Kong fix and I listen to it plenty (but with none of the joy I had listening to McCreary's KOTM when it was fresh and new. Here's looking forward to the music from the Netflix series Godzilla Singular Point.

Where else here is the score of Holkenborg for GvK discussed? Where? Oh my, I'm too old for this shit...

Saw Godzilla vs. Kong:
How come King Kong can pass through the gravity portal and the humans need a fucking gravity repellent spaceship?
How did Millie Bobby Brown and co. enter the secret facility without any cctv or security measures? Why were the gravity pods just open and have cryofreeze skull island eggs inside exposed to the elements? Once the team are transported to Hong Kong, the facility there doesn't run any security checks on the pod, doesn't spot them on security recordings, not to mention they magically hack the doors...
I laughed so hard when Godzilla shoots an energy beam at Kong's axe to charge it up so he can hit MechaGodzilla! Hilarious!
Thanks for the spoilers

He lost me when I read "The excellent score by Junkie XL might be his finest work to date, especially the glorious third act where I was reminded of Blade Runner and Escape From New York."
