The Fabelmans - score mentions in film reviews
Taikomochi replied to DangerMotif's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Oh yeah they have shit taste in music, the more they like or dislike something, the more likely I am to feel the opposite, thinking of early reviews I read praising The Post or trashing War Horse as scores. That said, this praise certainly elevates Williams’ chances of an Oscar, if anyone cares anymore. -
Music in The Fabelmans trailer (Confirmed: Not Williams)
Taikomochi replied to Jay's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Sounds like trailer house music. -
Here is what other composers are saying about John Williams
Taikomochi replied to Lewya's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Well, that ain’t me because I listen to plenty of classical. I wouldn’t presume what anyone else does or doesn’t listen to because I would have no way of knowing, nor would I attempt to invalidate and gatekeep their opinions based on that info. -

As in nearly all cases where Williams is accused of ripping someone off, Williams did it better. -
Oh duh, that was obvious. Thank your for clarifying!

Jurassic Park 2-CD (La-La Land) - 5th Of July 2022

The only bit from the first set that I think would benefit from a remaster is that weirdly garbled middle section (previously unreleased) of Rescuing Sarah, but that wouldn’t even be on this set. -
John Williams Interview with Associated Press (June 23, 2022)
Taikomochi replied to TownerFan's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I am not convinced he is going to Singapore as opposed the his music being played there. This article is sloppy. -
Michael Giacchino's JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION (2022)
Taikomochi replied to Jay's topic in General Discussion
Nice catch. Pretty sure “Free Range Kidnapping” opens with the raptor theme as well on soft woodwind. It would make sense since the two scenes basically follow into each other. -
I should think an F would be an F. You can argue the context about it being a blockbuster, it being a sequel to a revered franchise, that it should have done better than a B, but that doesn’t change that most people, nonetheless, liked the film, even if not very strongly. That doesn’t even mean it necessarily is a good film. That just means any claims that most people disliked the film are not based in fact. Most people go to the movies to see pretty lights and hear a few jokes, not to whine about Shia Labeouf.

User scores on websites are worthless. They are voted on by a very specific type of person and are not at all representative of what the larger populace thinks. I’d defer to something like CinemaScore which is more methodical in capturing actual data that isn’t self-selected. There, Crystal Skull received a B, not amazing but certainly positive.

Obi-Wan Theme debuts at Star Wars Celebration, conducted by John Williams
Taikomochi replied to Jay's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Well exactly. I am speaking in a broader sense, I guess, to musical elitists who shit on Williams for “borrowing” when his work has its own unique feel, not that there really is any of that on this particular forum. -

I actually hear a lot of similarity between this theme, Holdo, and Anthem of Evil, in that opening gesture on the horn. What I love about Williams is that he is able to take these relatively simple constructs and imbue them with such dramatic depth, and, while all three have a basic structural similarity to my ears, they are all completely different in emotional meaning. Williams’ work is always so much richer than any of us has ever deserved. I am so grateful for this man. -
