Yes, the trick is not expect a film that is on a same level as Alien but rather a caricatural take on the franchise. Seen this way, it's better than Prometheus, which can't be enjoyed on any level. IMO, of course.

Only really true for hit bands where the quality difference between hit and non-hit is enormous. Listening to the greatest hits album of a hit band makes absolute sense, but listening a 'best of album' of a concept album band like Pink Floyd is odd.

From a visual or any other point of view, Jurassic Park en Always are completely dull and uninteresting to me. Anyway, here are the five most beautiful photographed films according to Janus Kaminski:

The Conformist (Bernardo Bertolucci - Vittorio Storaro)

In Cold Blood (Richard Brooks - Conrad Hall)

Citizen Kane (Orson Welles - Gregg Toland)

The French Connection (William Friedkin - Owen Roizman)

Empire Of The Sun (Steven Spielberg - Allen Daviau)

Rarely used? It's probably the most used synth sound of the '80s. Even today, it's still mandatory in every digital piano and workstation.

    Thanks for the comments, fellas.
Funnily enough, I felt it had a film vibe as well. As if the villain (in common workman clothes) is about to rob the jewel shop.
I use different programs to tinker, usually photoshop but the free online iPiccy can be very handy as well. The last one was edited with iPiccy, BTW. Photo's taken with a smartphone need more tinkering than with a more serious camera. The PTA photo needed very little tinkering. It's taken with the x100s in Velvia simulation mode which is actually ideal for making vibrant landscape pictures.

I agree with Pilgrim that you doesn't need a master degree in composition before you can write good (film) music, although it does help if you want to write symphonic film music. If anything, a lot of the autodidacts have a unique voice, something that make them different from the traditionally trained artists. Toru Takemitsu is a famous example of that. Vangelis is an autodidact too and I really like his score to Blade Runner and some of his older concept albums. And whether you like what you hear or not, Zimmer is instantly recognizable. In fact, a lot of the autodidacts are, and not just in music, Spielberg, Nolan, Paul Thomas Anderson, Fincher and Tarantino are some of the most distinguished and distinctive directors out there. Passion is a good teacher.

Well, what sensible adult wouldn't? If JWFan was like the only group of people left on Earth (think The Walking Dead), we would all look to Joey as the camp's leader.

Looks all the same to me. Typical CGI movie! Longer trailer shows signs of Whedon (-esque) humor though. Might be fun after all.

I didn't feel good after watching Gravity. I was merely puzzled as to why people called it the 2001: ASO killer. I saw nothing special. Oscar or BAFTA doesn't mean a thing: 1) Film is not sports where the best is something you can measure with a stopwatch 2) The awards are mainly self-serving to the film industry.

I forgot it was BAFTAS last night.
Anyhow, beside amazing FXs, I still don't understand what people see in Gravity.
That the Brits claim it to be British is strange indeed. It's a Hollywood film written and directed by a Mexican and shot in an English studio.

I don't remember exactly but one of those moments went like: Sandra: "It's time to go home!" (with incredibly cheesy crescendo music). Or what about the family photo floating next the astronaut with half of his face missing?! How sentimental can it get? I hated the overly narrating score, BTW. I already felt something was wrong when the music was making 'whoosh' sounds during the 'accident'.
But technically, wow, I simply don't know how they pulled it off.

Dream House: Oh god, has to be seen to believed! A career low for everyone involved. One of the worst movies I've seen in a long time. Next time I better check RT before I start watching a movie. Shame on you, Jim Sheridan! 1/10

The Conjuring: It's what I keep telling everyone!
The Great Gatsby: The Blu-ray is 8 Euro. Almost bought it but then I remembered who the director is. There's a kind of overembellishment in his movies that I simply do not like.

AC1 got a reaction from Sharkissimo in So Ridley Scott is directing a Prometheus sequel... (The official Alien: Covenant Thread)
Thank you, Steef! Of course the production feels top-notch. Prometheus costs a gazillion bucks and technically it's a well-oiled product from the Scott factory. But the direction and overall artistry is bland as the screenplay. The strong passion that Scott displayed in his early movies has been long gone.

Mr. Turner is about a famous and successful British painter from the early 19th Century, so it will be a period piece for Mr. Leigh.

Hopefully it will make up for The Master.
