Empire said that Sher was shooting Thrain fighting outside Moria (Azanulbizar), so it does appear he'll be playing both 'Young' and 'Old' Thrain, since the last vlog showed some of Thrain and Gandalf in Dol Guldur.

These guys sure are desperate for TDOS news, cause they think they see Smaug in the clouds behind the WB logo in AUJ

I see nothing whatsoever.

I see clouds.

I just saw one shaped like a penis today. Do you think God put it there for me to see that?

Well, your sexuality appears to be very ambiguous.

I found some interesting things in The Annotated Hobbit, that might have some bearing on the view of the film:

First in the main text of the story itself, it is stated that Hobbits recover well from falls and bruises.

Secondly in one of the annotations , the reason for Sauron's title of "The Necromancer" is given (quoted from Morgoth's Ring) as some sort of body possession business.

What does that note say exactly? And does it contain Tolkien's explanations or ideas or Anderson's own extrapolations? The name itself is left relatively undiscussed in the History of the Hobbit by Rateliff, where he focuses on tracing Necromancer's history to the First Age and how Tolkien's prior stories taking place in Beleriand had a large effect on the character, who was by Tolkien's own admission a relatively small side character in the Hobbit created to give Gandalf an excuse to leave the dwarven company before they set on their journey through Mirkwood.

The note quotes Morgoth's Ring.

12 The Reintroduction of the Necromancer here was originally quite casual; his function, as Tolkien wrote in a letter to Christopher Bretherton on July 16, 1964, was "hardly more than to provide a reason for Gandalf going away and leaving Bilbo and the Dwarves to fend for themselves, which was necessary for the tale." (Letters, No. 257).

A necromancer is (generally) a wizard or a conjuror who communicates and has dealings with the dead. in the essay "Laws and Customs Among the Eldar" published in Morgoth's Ring, volume ten of the History, we see an explanation as to why Sauron is called a necromancer. In discussing what happens to the Elvish spirit (or fëa) after the death of the body, a wicked fëa may seek friendship with the living and attempt to house itself in a living body, either to enslave its host or to wrest from the other fëa its rightful body. Tolkien continues: "It is said that Sauron did these things, and taught his followers how to achieve them" (p. 224).

it explains why bilbo survived the fall onto gollums cave...

but it does not why the dwarves survive the fall in the goblin king cave :P

It's said elsewhere that the Dwarves were hardier and stronger than other races.

The entire teaser wasn't scored with the Plan 9 theme, there was original Shore material in there too - like the first appearance of Bilbo's Theme

If Jay is referring to the teaser with the Misty Mountains song... then yes there was Shore material: the Shire theme, A Very Respectable Hobbit (Bilbo's Adventure), the ring theme...

The DOS trailer thing, was generic trailer fluff.

Actually, it is, if this is what KK is referring to, its in the big brassy part of the Company Theme that is "from" Over Hill, its the four notes played on the trumpet (?) sandwiched inbetween the first and second phrase, and at the end of the statement before it segues into the Ring theme.

Look at the teaser again. First fragment at 1:49, then a fuller statement at 1:56. The theme is used in counterpoint to the misty mountains theme. Its one of the ways Shore tried to make the Plan 9 theme his own, as Doug has remarked on several times.

Actually, licks of it are in the tracked music that replaces The World is Ahead, parts of it is in the "revised" version of The Invention of Golf, and it is in the end credits.
