Those planing fourths! Nigel Kennedy's stratospheric violin! The spring reverb on the bass! Fucking gorgeous.

Nice selection, Sharkey. SAN JACINTO is hardly ever mentioned by anyone, at all. I saw PG, and band, play that on tour, in 1983 - the last time Larry Fast played live (gedit? ) with him.

Along with SAT IN YOUR LAP (hell, and thr rest of THE DREAMING!!),

EXPERIMENT IV is another overlooked masterpiece!

For most of my life I thought the lyric was "I guess the rain's down in Africa".

Ha, ha....me too! For us non-native-English-speaking people, in particular, a lot of the English lyrics we heard in our youth were rather warped. My 'brain' version of "Eye of the Tiger", for example, is considerably different than what they were actually singing.

Rise'n up, back on the streets

took my town, took my chances

when the ristance, now I'm back on the street

when the file, just a keep, paralyyyyyze

...

It's the eye of the tiger,

it's the dream of a fight

drives enough to the challenge of a rather

and the last come survivor

don't you sleep in the night

[and then basically a series of vowels] in the the eeeye

the eye of the tiger

I'll never tire of this classic power anthem.

Loved it since aged 10 or so, when it was the music which first grabbed me, then the lyrics later..

Instant testosterone flood from 2:50-3:06, guaranteed.

I hadn't realised before quite how much John Farnham resembles The Donald.

It is particularly evident in his later years in the following video, where he still delivers a great rendition of - "You're the Voice"

Baggy Trousers

Yes folks, you've heard of The Bake Off, but today is The Great JwFan 80s Off

Oh yes, no we're talking. Now we're talking.

Significant right hook in the Great JwFan 80s Off, that one Stefan!

I used to own the vinyl of that, a weird shaped vinyl and the side B of it was this gem which is so innocent.

Get your lighters and candles ready to wave in unison!

2:08 almost makes me blub, everytime.

In a pincer movement, Stefan and Marian ("Clever Girls") conspire to combine forces and deliver a surprise 80s blow.

Melange is on the ropes, but calls forth gritty determination and you won't BELIEVE what happens next........................

To me this track using the C64's sound chip is the greatest:

Huelsbeck will always remain my favourite, but this is a great one, too.

Twitter goes into meltdown. Melange 'just' unveiled his secret 80s weapon, obliterating the other players :

........and you can experience the knock out blow of the Great JwFan 80s Off, at this link
