David Lynch praising cable TV: "Feature length film is in trouble. The art theatre is dead, not dying, but dead!"

Nice. I liked that he said that the characters are family. IMO, the best TV shows take on that extra personal significance, and meaning. One invests more of oneself, one immerses oneself in the displayed environment, one actually cares about what one is seeing.

The Leftovers S3E7 - The Most Powerful Man In the World (And His Identical Twin Brother)

Gosh, I just love this show. For a limited last season of just 8 episodes, despite some great writing, I felt it was a little slow, at first, for a show centred on the "end of the world". But here, at its penultimate episode, everything's just come together so beautifully. You're reminded, once again, that underneath Lindelof's dense, layered yet elusive mythology, this is a show about its characters. A show about broken people who just want answers and need a little help. For a season that seems intent on driving towards the apocalypse on the surface, we're instead, fed these beautiful vignettes about specific characters coping with the world and surrounding events.

Matt (the priest)'s episode was great and last week's episode about Laurie was one of the show's all-time highlights. And today, we got an expansive glimpse into Kevin's journey. For those who did not like "International Assassin" (which I enjoyed), not to worry, because although the premise is similar, the context is entirely different and it really helps bring the entire show into perspective. And as the show often does in its most haunting moments, its wit, humour, symbolism, character writing and brilliant cast (Justin Theroux was fantastic here) asks us, as an audience to do a lot of thinking. It's been a crazy ride, and I can't wait to see how it all ends next week.

For fans of The Leftovers, an article on why it's currently the so-called best thing on TV:

Didn't get to read that yet, but for all the naysayers here, The Leftovers is currently one of my favourite shows. There's just too much good, thoughtful writing here to dismiss it. So I suggest you forget all the baggage the Lindelof brand carries, and give it a chance.

I love Twin Peaks, but I'll wait till I've seen the whole picture before I pass judgement on the new season.

But I'd put The Leftovers up there with TV's best at the moment.

Over the Garden Wall is good, but I didn't particularly enjoy the ending. It was really good for 3/4 of it though.

Really? I really liked the last two episodes, specially the flashback/whatever episode. It made me want to see the whole thing from the beginning again.

The Big Bang Theory S10E11. I'm really glad there's a new season, but am I the only one who's really sick an tired of Raj (except when he's angry?) I'm also not sure how I feel about the arrival of the baby. It will undoubtedly lead to even less 'nerd moments' between the guys...

It's still pretty funny today, I did watch a fair few episodes of the latest season. But I feel like they're running out of ideas. And these are middle-aged men now, it's getting a bit sad.

I'd never slag off Big Bang Theory, because it's provided countless hours of near consistently funny light entertainment, it's pretty much my ideal dinner on my lap TV show. But I feel it has run its course now. Nowt wrong with that. It had a fantastic run.

That's why they're doing a spin-off with Young Sheldon. It's still permissible if you make him 12!

I watched Black Mirror S3, S2 and the first episode of S1 (yes, I watched the seasons in reserve order because it doesn't matter) but so far I'm only counting two good episodes, namely, 'The Blackmailed Porn Watchers' and 'The Don Draper One'. Most of this series is either too on the nose, too unbelievable or too predictable for me to start raving about it, unlike some of the regulars around here. I did love these type of short stories (usually with a twist at the end) when I was an adolescent.

Black Mirror is an inconsistent watch. It has some really great episodes, and some bad ones. Remember The Twilight Zone? Like that.

You would definitely like it, not that you'll ever watch it.

It usually is. Has a couple of stinkers though, like most TV. I'm glad its around.

Maybe too strong a strong word. But it has some weak episodes, and then some absolutely brilliant ones.

It's better than 90% you'll find on network TV that's for sure.

The 80s lesbian love affair one was one of the most lyrically engaging things I saw last year. That was a stunner. And Bryce Dallas Howard's was superb too.

Yes. That and the hacker porn blackmail one were some of the show's all-time best. Great television.

A stretch? Maybe. But it left me genuinely uncomfortable at the end. The episode owes a lot to the kid's performance.

The bumble bee episode was dumb and too long. Though entertaining enough if you can turn off your brain I suppose. Black Mirror's take on The Birds.

I did like the chilling song at the end though.

Well, if you still get a kick out of Amazing Stories or The Twilight Zone, then there's a good chance you might like Black Mirror. It's the contemporary version of that kind of show.

Sense8 has been officially cancelled.  I really enjoyed a lot of the series, even if it could be a bit tiresome at times.  As with so much of the Wachowskis' output, overflowing with great ideas not always executed wonderfully.  I'm pretty ok with it, honestly.  It had 2 good seasons and now hopefully they'll make a movie again.

Whenever I think of Black Mirror I always recall the first series, and the best Doctor Who episode Doctor Who never made. That was a wicked one!

I agree. Doctor Who could use more pig-fucking.

I wasn't even thinking of that one! That's a fantastic little thriller though.

No, I'm talking about 'White Bear'. Google tells me I mistakenly thought it was part of the first series. It's series 2.

I'm not so sure. It has many of the same usual problems with the show, especially in the first half. Overall, it had some occasionally interesting moments, with the last couple of episodes being highlights, but the show may have run its course. Although the finale promises an interesting 6th season, but somehow I'm not so confident.

Stefan would probably like Black Mirror.

And I'd definitely recommend just starting with Season 3, then watching Seasons 1 and 2 later.

No reason not to just watch them in chronological order. And if you're looking for something new to make a splash, you really can't go wrong with the pig fucker episode.
