What Is The Last Film You Watched? (Older Films)

I think you have to leave all thoughts that a comic book movie won't be "silly" at the door. If you want realistic comic book characters, you're very limited. Maybe the Punisher.

Just watched the Honest Trailers for Pacific Rim. Really it just made me want to see the movie again, it was an awesome flick. Really too bad it bombed at the box office

I think it made a lot worldwide and they'll make a sequel

The film doesn't need a sequel, it told a complete story

Yep. Although I'd love to see a director's cut or something that would expand the universe. I want to know more about the Russian and Chinese Jaegers and things like that!

And then do a prequel, which then splits into ten films. And you spend one film on each robot's backstory.

Oh please God almighty! No!

I'm glad it bombed!

We don't need another movie, but maybe they could do that via comic books, just like Firefly did, for example.

Essentially a very silly movie, but one in which action is easy to follow and well staged. I didn't care for the story much (is there any real story in there?), but can recall several CG setpieces. The film makes no attempt to be taken seriously and that is quite adorable.

A friend of mine is doing a complete Star Trek experience - all series and films. I'm joining him for the films and probably for TNG when he gets there because that always merits a re-watch. We've done the first three films. I haven't hated JJ's approach at all, but after revisiting these roots, I'm somewhat glad there is change coming.

Star Wars did not tell a complete story.

The Heat

It was stupid. I've never liked Melissa McCarthy in anything I've seen her in (which is just this, Bridesmaids, and an episode of SNL). Why is she popular? Sandra Bullock was fine, but the movie was a waste despite a solid cast.

She's willing to make fun of herself and make herself the punchline. Although I'm tired of seeing her pull the lucrative but tired "Obnoxious vulgar fat chick" schtick myself. But she's definitely not grating in "Mike and Molly" and the final season of "Gilmore Girls" so check those out if you get the chance. She's quite charming and nice.

For a split second I thought you said Michael Mann's Heat was stupid. :folder:

She was great in Gilmore Girls, which is the only thing I've seen her in.

Hey Gilmore Girls was great!

THIS!

Indeed.

Skyfall - I am not exactly an expert in all things Bond, but I thought this was pretty decent. Villian didn't quite stand out, the plot is a very straight forward revenge scenario, but I like Craig as Bond. I wish they would give him a bit more to do. I really liked Casino Royale.

Olympus Has Fallen - Basically Die Hard in the White House. I guess I could have watched a lot of films to waste 2 hours, but this did the trick. Gerard Butler has his charms, carries a certain action charisma. The special effects seemed a bit on the cheap side.

To be honest, I'm not a Michael Mann fan at all. I understand that Nolan worshippers don't have a choice though.

Alex

Why, because the prologue of The Dark Knight was influenced by Heat? There is very little comparison between to the two directors.

Mann is a very average filmmaker. Collateral is his only film that I really liked.

Going to try to watch Superman IV without falling asleep. I will try to concentrate on the score!

Don't be disappointed if you don't like what you hear. Only about half of the 2-hour score is in the film.

No love for The Insider? Terrific film.

I didn't even think about the heist, but about the tone, which can be felt throughout the whole movie. Heat was clearly on Nolan's mind when he made TDK. You can clearly see how it did not yet play a part in Batman Begins.

Never saw that one. Collateral, Heat, Public Enemies, Miami Vice, and Manhunter are the only ones I believe I've seen.

Turns ou he even actually said that.

For Nolan's urban-set comicbook blockbuster, the London-born director actually screened Mann's L.A. crime drama for all his department heads before going into production.

"I always felt 'Heat' to be a remarkable demonstration of how you can create a vast universe within one city and balance a very large number of characters and their emotional journeys in an effective manner," Nolan says.
