toothless 963
It will be fun to talk about all these concerts and "compare" them. It's on the 29th of december in France !
bollemanneke 3,348
Yes I'm really interested in possible changes they've made. What I've never understood is why they always go on about performing the score as heard in the film. This is THE moment to restore unused music, right? toothless
Skelly 261
Well, there are reasons they didn't use certain cues in the film...
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
The 3 performances at the Rotterdam Philharmonic this week seem to have been great sellers. I got an email from them saying they will perform Chamber Of Secrets from Aug 30 to Sept 3 next year.

Jay 37,364
Well, Williams wrote music for the whole Blue Forest sequence, but most of it was completely dropped in the final film When Quirrel says "Troll in the Dungeon", Williams wrote music for that but it wasn't used in the final cut And of course, the introduction to Diagon Alley was supposed to be a fun jaunty melody, but in the final film it was replaced by music tracked in from the Great Hall cue
crocodile 8,016
I doubt they would restore the latter. Karol
bollemanneke 3,348
And the pub scene between Harry and Hagrid is supposed to have more music (not just when the Voldemort flashback starts. Also, the entire 'you're a wizard' scene was scored.
Jay 37,364
Yes, in fact, there is a very recent thread that shows all this stuff right here: http://www.jwfan.com/forums/index.php?/topic/26728-harry-potter-unused-music-restored/

So far I haven't noticed anything really different from the film's actual score. The orchestra does not have a choir, but it can be heard in the mix. crocodile 8,016
Yeah, they often do that. I learned earlier today there won't be a live choir used for Jurassic Park this weekend. Shame, but it won't hurt it that much. Karol

bollemanneke 3,348
The intermission sounds great, it's the random music I don't like.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
Why not? And what do you mean random?
bollemanneke 3,348
In the movie, the troll scene ends without music and the breakfast scene begins without music. No need to insert music there.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
So you suggest the film should just stop cold? In a concert you need something to close with. The music really just underscores the black screen and title card saying "intermission" anyway. here is the forest scene. Disco Stu

bollemanneke 3,348
Right. Nice YouTube videos, btw, they seem to play the exact film versions and I already discovered new violin notes when Filch is walking them to detention.

#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
Philosophers Stone actually didn't have a huge amount of micro editing done. A few ommited or tracked cues. A couple of edits, thats it.
Skelly 261
Yeah. But that's not the case for COS though. The tracked music in the Chamber itself is a hideous amalgamation of music.

Well, there's a women's choir part so I hope when the CSO does this they use it. @bollemanneke, I agree with @Stefancos. I really like when they use "random" music for going into the intermission and the entr'acte. Whether or not it fits with the film. It is our only chance to hear newly composed JW music. I wouldn't for the life of me want to miss a big newly composed statement of, say, the Raiders March, even if the segue is awkward.

Omen II 1,235
A fifth concert has been added at the Royal Albert Hall in London, this one on Sunday 14th May 2017 at 2 p.m. Tickets went on sale today and there is still good availability in most sections and at more reasonable prices for anyone who missed out when tickets for the first four concerts went like hot cakes. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone I note that the blurb mentions a choir, although none is listed at present as far as I can see.
Miz 139
It's a great score, but my least favourite of the Harry Potter films, which is a put off.
