I think you should add a number 7 to your list of guidelines:

No.7 Thanks to TheGreatEye for providing the first edited track and creating the inspiration for this epic work in progress :P:angry::D

Nah seriously, good idea putting all this stuff in its own thread ;)

Hmm... I keep getting around 4:02:55/56.

Let's compare start and end music, then. My big wav file opens with scary music from Fellowship (we hear the Ringwraith Theme, then the Uruk-Hai ... I forget which cue this is), then comes "Flight To The Ford" with the extended unused ending. At the other end of the file there's a huge chunk of music not by Howard Shore, followed by two short bits that ARE by Shore -- a statement of the Uruk-Hai theme, then a brief quote of the Dark Tower Falls theme. How does that compare with yours? If they match up, but there is still a time discrepancy, it means either a missing chunk in the middle or screwed-up pitch.

BTW ... music discovered so far includes "Lighting The Beacons" film version and the surrounding cues, including the bit where Aragorn SEES the beacon. I hear what I think is the full film version of the end of "The Black Gate" from TTT. I haven't confirmed anything else, but I also think we have Legolas taking out the elephant, Sam appearing to confront Shelob, and Sam storming Cirith Ungol.

Yeah I have the same beginning and end, I don't think that my pitch is screwed up but I could be wrong, I my ears aren't that good. I'll look at it more later after classes, sampling rate is 44 khz.

On another note, why do people seem to be converting to a wma and then an mp3 type. The file seems to be just a straight up mp3. If you just change the extension to an mp3 it works and has 160kps, so why are people trying to convert it and reencode it to 320 kps, that just doesn't make sense.

John, instead of making it into a wav file, try changing the .big to a .mp3 and see what happens and what length you get and maybe compare it to the wav file you have. If in windows in order to do this you may have to go to tools --> folder options --> view --> uncheck hide extensions for known file types.

On another note although when I open up the mp3 in windows media player it says a length of 4:02:56, but it only actually plays to 4:02:15 and then stops, I wonder why?

Hopefully we will be able to get this sorted out, I appreciate your help and effort ;)

Don't wanna open a whole new can of worms here, but did you guys know that its not just BFME 2 that has a substantial amount of unreleased music on it? The original game had more than a fair share too, just not the entire Ride Of The Rohirrim cue. I remember hearing stuff on there from TTT and ROTK which has never been released.

I still have BFME installed on my pc. Maybe I could upload the music file if anyone wants it.

If you could that would be great. My download of BFME 2 has just timed out for a third time after getting about 70% done so I've got no other way to get hold of these files

Hey all, long time lurker, first time poster. I used to be here a LONG time ago under the name LordChadwick but put that one to bed! ;) I downloaded the game and was able to rename the file as an mp3 just like bob23 said above. Unfortunately my cpu won't let me play the game! :D I was looking forward to it, oh well. I still have the music! The Great Eye, I sent you a PM about BFME I music.

Also, if anyone wants to hear the EE end credits music from all three films, I have them on www.savefile.com

I believe once you go there you can look me up there, ATXHusker, and you should be able to download all three of them. All together about 70 minutes of music and it's a nice alternative to what we already have. If they don't work PM me and I can show you where to go to listen to them.

-Chad

I’m amazed how much material there is within this file actually – much of it from Return of the King to boot. It’s a pity things tend to fade out before the end in many instances (there is a choir less ‘Death of Theoden’ bit deep within the file, but its only half the cue for example).

The best discovery for me so far has to be one of my favourite ROTK cues presented in the .big file in its entirety. It’s the very last cue of the film where Frodo narrates Sam’s return home. Bloody beautiful it is. *wipes away a tear*

It’s an awful lot to wade through, so I commend those taking the time to log and document everything on offer. Well done and good luck.

We now have all of The Battle of the Pelennor Fields, minus three short cues. About thirteen minutes of music in all. Most of The Siege of Gondor is there, nearly all of The Tower of Cirith Ungol, most of the missing bits from Shelob's Lair, lots of cues from the whole Stairs of Cirith Ungol sequence, including the complete Minas Morgul, some short snippets from the Smeagol/Deagol flashback and the Sam/Frodo scene which follows. :|

Coupled with the OST, there must be over two hours of music from ROTK available.

A decent chunk of the whole ‘you shall live to see these days renewed’ music from the scene between Theoden and Eowyn is there too, about one minute and eleven seconds of it. It’s a nice clean track, even though I THINK there is a tiny bit missing from the start if memory serves, but it seems to end correctly. The start of that scene seems to be here, elsewhere, but its fades out leaving a bit missing between them from what I can tell. The cue that follows it, that strained rendition of the Fellowship theme for when Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli journey to the paths of the dead is here too.

The entire cue featuring the statement of the nature theme for the exodus from Edoras is there, as is the music from the Return to Edoras with the Rohirrim theme leading into the music when they pay homage to the those who died at Helm’s Deep.

There seems to be a nice clean track for the full ‘last of the longottom leaf’ bit between Merry and Pippin. It just needs to bed edited into the OST Hope and Memory track.

I’m rather chuffed all the music from when Aragorn spies the beacons through to Theoden calling for the move for all troops to leave Edoras and send out the call to meet at Dunharrow is here.

… and the Sam/Frodo scene which follows.

Is there any more from that scene? I found two bits, edited, one being the charming end to the Lembas bread “for the journey home” bit, and then a segment from when Gollum leads the hobbits away before the music moves to underscore Aragorn and Co riding through the forest toward what’s left of Isengard.

I'm still trying to figure out why GoldWave is only loading 3hrs and 4 mins of the file for me at the moment.

For this section (officially titled 'Journey to the Cross-Roads') we have the opening cue with the 'History of the Ring' theme, the brassy bit for the volcanic eruption, another short cue, and the bit with Gollum leading the hobbits away (using 'The Journey There'). The last cue stops just short of the main title. I don't have my documentation to hand, but I don't think there's much missing.

All of 'Hope and Memory' is there (3 cues) including the shorter theatrical ending.

There are still five pieces that I can't identify.

Did you try just renaming it as an .mp3. Also did we decide how the long the music is actually supposed to be yet? I keep getting like 15 minutes shorter than John Takis.

Could anyone who has extracted the specific pieces (doesn't matter whether they're edited or not) upload them to yousendit for the benefit of those without the demo? I've only got the file from BFME:1 and haven't identified any unreleased music so far.

It's sooo tantalizing hearing about these new cues, especially the post beacons music and pelennor fields material

Let's just hope this won't cost us the ROTK Complete recordings.

Do not speak such things! Not even in jest!

They got the TPM UE out because of video game stuff surfacing (or so I'm told)

At most extreme it'll just make the RotK CR come out quicker and we've seen from FotR that they're not going to mess it up. I'm not worried.

Yeah I'm not bothering at all with this music. I'll just wait for the complete recordings release.

I couldn't be bothered to edit this music since we are going to have both of the complete scores by the end of the year. I am just too lazy plus I do not want to jinx it.

I've just successfully downloaded the demo and I'm loading the Music.big file as I type - I gotta lot of work to do now 8O.

gkgyver - if the file itself is encoded at 160, we're not going to get higher quality. I haven't noticed any problems with it though.

If you mean with the CR then of course....smartass 8O

Listening to this, there's an absolute goldmine of unreleased stuff and film versions of loads of cues. Not quite like having the CR, but lots of the material is here.

I'm currently in the later part of the file, and I've found the scene with gollum and smeagol talking early in RotK.

I've already got an expanded version, made of clean DVD rips. This will just replace some of those with clean copies, and then just keep the more interesting other bits.

I'm not going to work out where every morsel of music is from - I'll wait until the CR for that.

Yes, I did lol

The only problem is: this list just shows the *order* of the cues. At some point, my Windows Media Player times didn't match the times on the list anymore.

You bet I'll make some edits!

130. 0:43 - ROTK - NO IDEA! Denethor?*

This is from the prologue. It's Deagol with the ring, just before 'The Seduction of the Ring' appears. It's actually only 0:37, due to the slightly off timings on this list.

147. 0:30 - ROTK - ???*

Also from the prologue. Deagol underwater just before he sees the ring.

093. 0:42 (1:50:38-1:51:21) - ROTK - ??? probably in Osgiliath*

Last part of the first Osgiliath battle scene. Segues to Pippin's climb to the beacon.

097. 0:31 (1:54:03-1:54:35) - ROTK - what the heck is that?*

It's Frodo versus Gollum after Shelob's Lair.

127. 0:22 - ROTK - Frodo in Sam's arms (Mount Doom)*

Are you sure? I can't find it in the film. This is the only piece I can't identify.

128. 0:46 - ROTK - Elrond talks to Aragorn 2* (extended album track)

It's actually two separate sections of the same sequence (bookending the presentation of Anduril).

179. 0:51 - ROTK - Pippin climbs the beacon tower* (extended album track)

It's a different take with subtly different orchestrations and more music.

174. 0:39 - ROTK - Pelennor Fields bit? (NO IDEA)*

Denethor forcibly dismisses Pippin from his service.

185. 0:40 - ROTK - Denethor throws Pippin out of the tombs*

This is actually from The Choices of Master Samwise ("Take him to the tower!").

195. 0:28 - ROTK - somewhere at Cirith ungol*

The Tower of Cirith Ungol - Part 1.

Did you try just renaming it as an .mp3.

I did, yes. Naming it .mp3 gives me an error stating ‘no codec exists to encode or decode the file’… If I open the .big direct, or rename it .wma it only opens 3hrs and 4mins worth. Can’t figure it out.

Listening to this, there's an absolute goldmine of unreleased stuff and film versions of loads of cues. Not quite like having the CR, but lots of the material is here.

Richuk, what are you using to open and edit the file? I’d still like to get access to this ‘lost’ 60mins I can’t seem to open.

I'm not gonna bother with making a expanded ROTK out of all of this, i'll just pick and choose a few interesting cues to hold me over till the complete score gets released.

I’m going to edit together the arrival of the Rohirrim at Pelennor material, with the “deaaaaaaaath” bit and the charge as I always loved that grand statement of the nature theme. Having that and the Samwise homecoming cue from the end of the film is more than enough to keep me sane until the extended score release. ;) Everything else I will leave as is.

Which you will buy some 3 months after everyone else in the world has already bought it.

I hope not. I'll try to have the money in time for the ROTK release. Plus, I'm more excited about a complete ROTK than I'm about FOTR.

MontyBurns, I'm using Cool Edit Pro 2.0, then Sony Vegas to merge stuff, and it opens the full length. Incidentally, if you still have trouble then I'll gladly e-mail my extractions to you. Some of it, especially pelennor fields stuff, is pretty tricky to put together cleanly.

I've basically extracted Sam's return to Bag End and run up into Cirith Ungol Tower, Gollum throwing away the lembas, and all the significant Edoras material. Plus the whole 'Charge of the Rohirrim' section including Denethor's death, and all of the Mumakil music up to legolas' stunt (thanks to a certain member for that).

One bit I really wanted (apart from the obvious 'For Frodo') was the fellowship fanfare as sam confronts Shelob, but since it's not there and the scene is in about 6 parts, I can't be bothered to do anything with that.

I've got no idea how everything in the master list was identified, but that's enough for me - plenty more highlights to wait for the CR ;)

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where Sam's return to Bag End is? We're talking the very very last scene before the credits yeh?

So far I have the whole defence/seige of Osgiliath mixed with the Lighting of the Beacons/Rohirrim leaving Edoras and the Pellenor Fields from the arrival of the Rohirrim to Legolas' Oliphaunt run in. Sounding good but its only making the wait for the CR even harder!!

Is there a less expensive way than Cool Edit Pro to convert the.big file? I haven't tried editing the thing yet, but I would like to avoid unpleasant surprises very much.

Yes, # 127 can definitely be heard at the slopes of Mt. Doom.

Isn't it amazing that although we can't identify some specific cues, we are still able to tell where they should fit in the film; "this is in Cirith Ungol", "that belongs to Osgiliath" and so on.

Speaks volumes about Shore's skill.
