KK 3,313 Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 I hoped so too. But it was a thoroughly underwhelming Disney flick. Looks beautiful though.

I was quite disappointed too. Has a lovely opening and some nice moments, but its weak filler suspense material really drags it down. Brónach 1,330 Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 I don't remember well the score for Brave but I remember the little song in Gaelic.
Marian Schedenig 11,695 Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 He said he knew nothing about it!!!I've played Grim Fandango, so I'm familiar with the concept (to an extent). That's why I'm excited about a possible Giacchino score for it. what do you guys think of the score? I was pretty disappointed... had quite high expectations.Brave is a wonderful score!
filmmusic 3,270 Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Just was searching music of early Giacchino.it is always interesting to know how composers started! His very first music credit (according to imdb)
Jay 46,244 Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 OK, so here's all the hoped / rumored / potential / confirmed jobs for Giacchio, post-John Carter2013 (May 17) Star Trek Into Darkness (JJ Abrams/Bad Robot) - Giacchino!2014 (April 4) Captain America 2 (Russos) - ???????2014 (May 16) Godzilla (Gareth Edwards) - ??????2014 (May 23) Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (Matt Reeves) - ??????2014 (May 30) The Good Dinosaur (Bob Peterson/Pixar) - Thomas Newman2014 (Jul 25) Jupiter Ascending (Wachowskis) - Giacchino!2014 (Dec 19) Tomorrowland (Brad Bird) - Giacchino!2015 (May ??) Star Wars Episode VII (JJ Abrams) - probably Giacchino2015 (Jun 19) Inside Out (Pete Docter/Pixar) - ??????2015 (Nov 25) Finding Dory (Andrew Stanton/Pixar) - probably Thomas Newman *Update 4/19: Thomas Newman confirmed2015 (??? ??) Mission: Impossible 5 (Christopher McQuarrie) - probably either Giacchino or Joe Kraemer2016 (??? ??) Día de los Muertos (Pixar) - ??????????? (??? ??) 1906 (Brad Bird) - ??????Am I missing anything?Well, with JJ Abrams' recent announcement that he thinks Williams will score Episode 7, this makes it almost a lock that Giacchino is scoring Inside Out. Heck, he might have time to do another summer 2015 movie! What's coming out then? Could he score Avengers 2???? Guardians of the Galaxy??? Dracula??2014 (April 4) Captain America 2 (Russos) - ???????2014 (May 16) Godzilla (Gareth Edwards) - ??????2014 (May 23) Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (Matt Reeves) - ??????2014 (May 30) The Good Dinosaur (Bob Peterson/Pixar) - Thomas Newman2014 (Jul 25) Jupiter Ascending (Wachowskis) - Giacchino!2014 (Aug 1) Guardians of the Galaxy (James Gunn) - ?????2014 (Aug 8) Dracula (Gary Shore) - ?????2014 (Dec 19) Tomorrowland (Brad Bird) - Giacchino!2015 (May ??) Max 154 Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Wouldn't Giacchino's past association with Pete Docter make him a lock for Inside Out?I'm pretty excited for his next few movies. Even if he doesn't reteam with Matt Reeves for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, I think Jupiter Ascending (summer) and Tomorrowland (winter) will make 2014 a pretty good year for Giacchino. As for 2015 movies, I hope he returns/is asked to return for Mission: Impossible 5. I think his Ghost Protocol score is great--definitely better than Mission: Impossible III--and I'd love to see where he goes from here.
Jay 46,244 Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Well yea, I think it's very safe to assume he's scoring Inside Out. However, officially, nothing is confirmed, and the only thing Giacchino has said was that he was scoring "a Pixar film". At the time, it could have been The Good Dinosaur, Finding Dory, Inside Out, or Día de los Muertos. With T Newman confirmed for Dinosaur and Dory, that leaks Inside Out and Día de los Muertos - but nothing is, officially, confirmed. As for MI5, Joe Kraemer has scored every Christopher McQuarrie film so far, so I think he's just as likely to score it as Giacchino is, if not more so.
crocodile 9,724 Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 I'd like to hear Joe Kraemer's MI5, actually.Karol
Jay 46,244 Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Yea, I enjoyed his score to Jack Reacher quite a bit - and Tom Cruise himself was very fond of the score and of Kraemer.I really need to listen to Way Of The Gun.

Luke Skywalker 2,385 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Just was searching music of early Giacchino.it is always interesting to know how composers started! His very first music credit (according to imdb) definately it is giacchino. from the 0:50 mark and on, i can hear some Medoal of honor Underground (labyrinth of the minotaur IRRC)I think he did well re-using that when he was able to use a real orchestra. It's one of my fav cues.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 That's The Radar Train from the first score.
BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 The most awkward video I remember is Michael Giacchino stepping in front of the post-Oscar-winner QA with the press. The dead silence made me feel so bad. Michael handled it well though, and got them talking. But that awkward silent moment...*shudder*.
Rachael Foley 10,164 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 0:50 Reminds me of Jurassic Park (the militaristic march motif) for some reason
Incanus 5,890 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 That's The Radar Train from the first score. It is indeed. I am glad he got a chance to do it with an orchestra later in MOH.
Pieter Boelen 1,032 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 That's brilliant! Indeed it is quite the same melody, isn't it? KK 1

Ahhh the redundancies of life....Nice to hear a midi version of "The Radar Train" It actually is!I hear people talk and I listened, but his score sounded senseless and dry. What is the best melody he's written? I'll give another try.Is that rhyme intentional? Also what score did you listen to?
Jay 46,244 Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Wow! With the news that Giacchino will be score Matt Reeves' Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, time to update the list!2014 (April 4) Captain America 2 (Russos) - ???????2014 (May 16) Godzilla (Gareth Edwards) - ??????2014 (May 23) Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (Matt Reeves) - ??????2014 (May 30) The Good Dinosaur (Bob Peterson/Pixar) - Thomas Newman2014 (Jul 25) Jupiter Ascending (Wachowskis) - Giacchino!2014 (Aug 1) Guardians of the Galaxy (James Gunn) - ?????2014 (Aug 8) Dracula (Gary Shore) - ?????2014 (Dec 19) Tomorrowland (Brad Bird) - Giacchino! 2015 (May ??) I actually don't see another 2014 score being added to his plate, unless it's something he writes and records in late 2013 (like John Carter situation).3 scores is enough for 2014 anyway - those three should all be fairly long scores and, as long as he is inspired by good movies, 3 pretty interesting scores. His 2015 is becoming much more interesting. With Williams likely on board for Star Wars and him likely on board for Inside Out and MI5, it remains to be seen if he'll pick up a 3rd and maybe 4th score that year. His take on The Avengers would probably be pretty great!
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I thought Jackman was confirmed for The Winter Soldier?

Ollie 1,375 Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Someone has added Godzilla to Giacchino's imdb page.I hope this is or will be true.
Ollie 1,375 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Well damn it's not. He tweeted that it was false.
Jay 46,244 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Indeed he didFolks... I am NOT scoring Godzilla. Do not believe everything you read on IMDB.And follow this link, because the replies he got to that tweet - from Andrew Stanton, David Arnold, and others, are hilarious!!https://twitter.com/m_giacchino/status/342661309759909888
crocodile 9,724 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Twitter is the most frustrating thing ever. I've no idea what I'm looking at.Karol
Jay 46,244 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 What do you mean? Giacchino's tweet is on the top with the white background, and the replies are under it in the grey background
crocodile 9,724 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 I know that. Just saying it that for something invented to pass on information, it is extremely unreadable and frustrating to follow.Karol
Jay 46,244 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 How is is frustrating to follow? Because it's not threaded?

ROTFLMAO Just saying it that for something invented to pass on information, it is extremely unreadable and frustrating to follow.YES! I've been trying to use that whole "Twitter" thing to promote the pirate game work I'm doing and it still confuses the crap out of me.Only last week I figured out how I could see when other people would mention me in their tweets or send tweets to me.
Brónach 1,330 Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Confusing? What feeds do you people follow? I refuse to follow people who don't write clearly.Only last week I figured out how I could see when other people would mention me in their tweets or send tweets to me. It's simply the second button on the top.
crocodile 9,724 Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 What feeds do you people follow?Might be a sign of idiocy and/or ignorance, but I have no idea what this sentence even means. My mobile is an ancient device, I use no applications of any kind. I don't even keep it on my all that often. And I only use Facebook on a computer. And even that more and more sparingly. Most of this stuff seems really pointless to me.But that's just me, I guess.Karol - not a technology person at all
Jay 46,244 Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 You can use Twitter on a real computer too - you don't have to use mobile at all
