Omen II 1,300 Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Hilary Hahn's violin case (I believe!) tweeted that she has just recorded the soundtrack to an indie film set in Ireland. Does anyone have any idea what the film is and who the composer might be? I know she worked with James Newton Howard on The Village and that he contributed one of the 27 commissions for her recent encore project, but I guess it could be just about anybody. Consider my interest piqued.https://twitter.com/violincaseSee the most recent 18th March post.
Jay 46,244 Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 This isn't a knock on your post, but just a FYI thing for your future reference: You can easily link directly to a specific tweet, rather than their entire stream, by clicking on the timestamp of the tweet you want (in this case, you'd click on the "22h" [at the time of this post] next to the ireland indie film tweet), and now the URL at the top of your browser is the URL to that specific tweet. Wojo 2,458 Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 This may be of interest to Richard, Thor, and anyone else who, like me, appreciates Genesis and progressive rock enough to recognize Tony Banks. The Wicked LadyTony Banks releases the music from the 1983 Michael Winner film The Wicked Lady. Originally released on vinyl but never onto CD.Tracks 1 - 8 orchestral movements from the film played by the National Phiharmonic Orchestra conducted by Stanley Black.Tracks 9 -16 Tony Banks plays variations on themes from The Wicked LadyReleased March 25 on the Fugitive Inc label available from the Tony Banks websiteAvailable from Amazon April 16[14 March 2013]This is the first time onto CD.Tony Banks’ music from the 1983 film of The Wicked Lady directed by Michael Winner, was composed at the same time as Tony was recording his solo album The Fugitive, the main theme was originally meant as an instrumental for the Fugitive album but was not used. Tony felt that the instrumental had a theme that would work well for the film and sent it through as a demo to Michael Winner who instantly loved it.It needed to be orchestrated and Christopher Palmer was brought on board to assist Tony in arranging the music for an orchestra.Michael Winner requested a lot of music for the film and as a bonus the second half of the CD has Tony playing the original demos. It has taken several months to bring this CD to fruition and it is made all the more poignant in that Michael Winner recently died this year.Available to buy and download from www.tonybanksmusic.com from 25th Marchhttp://www.tonybanksmusic.com/newsdetail.php?ID=22

Incanus 5,890 Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 I just found this news on a new Howard Shore score on Doug Adams' blog:Shore's newest, Jimmy P., is coming out on Howe Records on September 10. The score, which was recorded in New York, features the Dover Quartet as well as some interesting interplay between the quartet and a small orchestra. It's currently available for pre-order on Amazon right HERE. Here is also a direct link to Howe Records site for the soundtrack.
crocodile 9,724 Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 I think it sounds quite lovely. Vintage Shore - brooding but with a bit more air. It would be a nice appetizer before The Hobbit 2 (and probably more than that). When did he get time to write this?Karol
tannhauser 101 Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Probably in the Christmas/New Year downtime. He did Panic Room and Spider between Fellowship and Two Towers. Busy dude!
tannhauser 101 Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Meh. Basically an album of rock music from the sounds. This is a rare Zimmer disc that I probably won't even listen to.

Kendal_Ozzel 36 Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Preorders are up for Frozen (Christophe Beck) and Saving Mr. Banks (Thomas Newman). Interestingly, both are 2-disc deluxe editions. Could these really be complete scores, right off the bat, from Walt Disney Records?

Koray Savas 2,260 Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Was this ever mentioned around here?
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Well I bring it up because it has a disc dedicated to their theme park music, and I recall a few members being huge fans.

Omen II 1,300 Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Hilary Hahn's violin case (I believe!) tweeted that she has just recorded the soundtrack to an indie film set in Ireland. Does anyone have any idea what the film is and who the composer might be? I know she worked with James Newton Howard on The Village and that he contributed one of the 27 commissions for her recent encore project, but I guess it could be just about anybody. Consider my interest piqued. Composer Andrew Hewitt has tweeted (twat?) that his score for The Sea (for it is that of which I spake), featuring the violin of Hilary Hahn, will be available soon:https://twitter.com/andrewhewitt76/status/454026301943193600/photo/1It sounds quite melancholy from the samples on his website, but definitely worth checking out. The Hahnster is certainly not afraid to try new things, what with her recent collaborations with prepared piano meister Hauschka and her brilliant In 27 Pieces encores project.
Kendal_Ozzel 36 Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Guardians of the Galaxy is already up for preorder on Amazon.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,388 Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Who was doing the score on that again?
Not Mr. Big 5,011 Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 I see.Never mind.....Does anybody like Tyler Bates? He has to be one of the most universally hated composers working today.
KK 3,313 Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Just curious, did Tyler Bates become universally hated after the 300 fiasco, or is it just because he writes lame music?
nightscape94 968 Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 I didn't even know who the guy was until after the 300 fiasco.
Not Mr. Big 5,011 Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 The 300 controversy certainly fueled the hate.

Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 He lacks the sensibilities/instincts to score well. Stick to ambient records.

Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 A load of fluffy meh. You can tell just by looking at the waveforms on soundcloud.
Gnome in Plaid 219 Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Any 2014 scores people can recommend? Into the Storm and Grand Piano are the only releases so far this year I've enjoyed.
Not Mr. Big 5,011 Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 In no particular order... Godzilla, HTTYD 2, Maleficent, A Million Ways to Die in the West
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 ^ yepGiacchino's ape thing is very solid also. And TASM2 has a decent amount of good material if you edit the album wisely.Under The Skin is excellent but might not be your kind of thing.
Naïve Old Fart 13,025 Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 If you like "quirky", then look no further than "Grand Budapest Hotel". Both "Her" and "The Double" are good (the "T.V." music is pure cheddar, but enjoyable).Ps Pil is right: "UTS" is great.
