Bellosh reacted to Edmilson in Will Dial of Destiny be nominated for a best Original score Oscar?
Here is the next Oscar winner writing his experimental/edgy/100%-electronic/awful-to-listen-to score that will make the Academy, film critics and entertainment media go like "this is so fresh and effective!"

Bellosh reacted to Jurassic Shark in Will Dial of Destiny be nominated for a best Original score Oscar?
It doesn't matter how the score compares to his earlier efforts, as long as it's better than the other nominated, which it probably will be.

apologies if this has already been talked about, but are these couple of notes the TLC Nazi motif:
Also is that motif in other parts of the film?

Bellosh reacted to JTN in Will Dial of Destiny be nominated for a best Original score Oscar?
So? It’s time Williams got some positive discrimination from the Academy. He last won 29 years ago. He deserves a “pity” Oscar just as much as Morricone did for The Hateful Eight or a biased award like Gudnadóttir for Joker (“first female nom in a looooooong time) and Zimmer for Dune (eXperimentaaaaaaal nonsense = genius).
Williams was snubbed many times, if he gets it for DoD, even if it’s not one of his best efforts, I’m perfectly OK with it.

The Airport --> Battle of Syracuse --> Centuries Join Hands
May be my favorite 3 cues in a row by JW in a long time

Bellosh got a reaction from Brónach in Will Dial of Destiny be nominated for a best Original score Oscar?
Yes. and it will win.
JW specifically made Helena's Theme 'old-school' hollywood style to appease the Academy so he doesn't get robbed of yet another oscar from some score that is a very loud 3 notes netflix movie or some bullshit.
or at least that's my shitty theory....

ok well Luke would have definitely been considered a Mary-Sue if ANH was a flop and Lucas never made the others.

I mean it works in certain cases.
Shark Cage Fugue is a perfect example on the 2000 release. It works so well early on in the listening experience. I almost can't even stand hearing it in it's true film spot.

The issue I have with “Flight to Cairo” (which is the same issue I have with the album version of Willie’s theme in “Map / Out of Fuel”) is that it’s not a complete statement of the theme; it leaves out the best part!
One of the great things about “To Athens” in comparison, is that we get the full theme. In fact, I felt so burned by “Flight to Cairo” and “Map / Out of Fuel,” that when I heard “To Athens” for the first time I was bracing myself for it to cut out right around 1:30. Once it got to 1:37 and was still going, I knew we were safe.

Just my two cents:
Managed to experience the movie at the first evening screening yesterday, on the largest screen available.
It was a torn experience - amazing stuff as well as not quite expected one, couldn't get into it completely - but one thing is for sure:
Seeing John Williams' name on the screen and listening to the end credits was almost the best part. (except for 90% of the TukTuk chase, Helena's witty deductions on the boat, the classic Indy tomb discovery sequence and some but not most parts of the 1944 sequence, hard to explain)
Now I will wait for the CD and read every page of this thread. (still on page 12, as I didn't read anything prior to the screening)
My current feelings:
1. Joy of anticipation for the OST (I accept it as it is - a miracle to enjoy)
2. Growing melancholy (pretty much the last and longest constant in my life is about to fade away [*])
Just wanted to share this.
* Luckily the Commodore 64 and its scene are still READY.

I love how understated this theme is, especially considering the supposed ramifications Archimedes' mechanism has in the story. Voller's long-winded motif (the one that's similar to Boba Fett's motif from TESB) is also a highlight of the score for me. What strikes me is how melancholic this entry is. It does seem like the film's themes of aging and the passage of time really resonated with Williams. I'm really quite thankful that he chose to score this film after all.

I've listened to the album several times now, and I must say I like it even more now. I rarely manage to listen to complete albums, let alone repeatedly, but Williams does not disappoint. Even what I presume is Archimedes' theme really grew on me, despite it being rather understated for a MacGuffin concept.
My personal highlights are not the action pieces (great as they mostly are), however, but 0:11 - 0:45 in "Archimedes' Tomb" and, to a lesser extent, 0:14 - 0:50 in "The Grafikos"; I just love these myterious, suspenseful discovery cues Williams writes. Somehow none of the composers of similar movies (Tomb Raider, Uncharted, Jungle Cruise etc.) quite managed to meet my taste so far. I do hope there's a little more of this in the actual movie.
