Sometimes big budget films flop. Sometimes the studio assumes there would be big interest when there isn't. 
 
The big argument is whether or not TLJ affected whether or not people went to see Solo. We'll never know for sure. Yes, some people may have avoided it because of TLJ, but that's not the only reason it didn't do well.

Solo's failure has other roots than TJL i think. The fact that it cost too much, no one was waiting for it, the month of release.
 
The "fans" didn't turn TFA into a huge hit. You don't pull 2 billion just from its "fans". The regular public ate it up. 
 
Matriss doesn't use logic very well. Perhaps his anger blinds him.

The anticipation for Episode 9 is way different from that for Solo. Saying Episode 9 will fail because Solo didn't pull in fantastic numbers is being naive. 
 
People hated the prequels and they still made a ton of money (I assume, I don't follow box office numbers).  Episode 9 will be successful. I know quite a few people that didn't go see Solo but will see Episode 9 for multiple reasons I've expressed already in this thread.

Yeah, I don't believe that the books, comics, and scores are much in comparison to the box office. As @Nick1066 said, toy sales are dwindling (but hell they are dwindling from the ridiculous amount for TFA, so it's not as much but still a lot). Everyone will want to see IX, whether or not they liked TLJ. Bashers had no reason to want to see Solo I suppose. Their informed hateful outlook would have only dampened it even more than their boycotting. Bashers will not be able to resist IX though. Mattris himself has hinted that he might see IX if it were to "fix" TLJ. Maybe some just want to blow it to smithereens as well, some want to see a resolution, some actually care and want to watch with the same vigor with which the entered the previous two, some will watch because it'll be the biggest title coming out that December, and others will watch because it's a Friday night and they're bored. The idea is that "everyone" will go to see IX regardless of what they think about the trilogy at this point. It's the last movie in the saga, perhaps the last one before we really reach the tipping point. JJ is preparing the field, and the rain is going to come with ease. IX will be a financial success, maybe not quite at TFA's level, but it will show strength.

If you factor all those in I bet they're doing fairly well financially in regards to Star Wars.

Ugh.  Time travel in SW would be awful.  Nothing in TLJ needs retconned or fixed.  And I've always thought that Star Wars Theory guy was an idiot.
 
Han Solo, or Snoke, returning would be stupid.  Luke returning alive and not a Force ghost is stupid.

Yeah, that's what will "fix" the sequel trilogy: the cheapest copout ever!

I'd want John Williams to write a commemorative piece to celebrate Trump's second inauguration.

Apparently that scene's purpose was to emasculate Luke Skywalker. Not sure how. I saw it as a way of explaining how the hell Luke survived on an island for so long. 

Damn, I should've only watched the movie once and got my "facts" from raving lunatics on Youtube, then my opinions could be objective truths, too!

I'm so glad I've been informed that my opinion is wrong. Instead of liking the movie I now hate it, purely because of what other people think on the internet.
