I get that it was for practical purposes but I don't like the reuse of TFA's Main Title recording. I always thought it was a weak recording and was hoping they'd record a new one.
Having said that, I really like this score on first listen than I did TFA's. There's some quite nice statements of old themes that I can't actually name without violating the "no movie spoilers" rule. "Chrome Dome" reminds me a lot of "Rolling With Grievous" from ROTS. My favourite track so far might be "The Sacred Jedi Texts".
However, I'm not too enthused with the third JW Star Wars score in a row finishing with "Binary Sunset".
They did record a new one. Rian confirmed it.

Also features a non-Williams theme briefly that's been used in cartoons and stuff (apologies for not knowing the name of it).
"Brazil", I believe.

Don't you have voters to suppress or something?
Huh? I’m not talking about politics at all... Not everyone who is against stupid political correctness is a Republican or agrees with their policies. (Assuming that’s your implication.) Thanks for stereotyping, though!

This is the second time in two days that I've seen someone here on JWFan use the term "retard" in a derogatory way, and I find it sort of offensive. I'm sure others must, too. @Jay, surely there is a rule against this sort of thing here as there is on so many of the other forums in which I participate? I love John Williams music, and I love Star Wars. I come here to share in those passions with fellow fans, not to hear slurs and hurtful epithets. No matter race, sex, gender identity, religion, political affiliation, or even disability, I think everyone should be made to feel welcome here. Just my two cents.

The PC police have officially arrived... 🙄 Grow a spine. It’s a pretty common phrase; this isn’t a college safe space, it’s the real world and not everyone is going to pander to the <1% and their demands. If this was a personal attack he was making I’d understand but I mean... Come on, man. (Hope I didn’t just misgender you; I’m sure that would be an offense too, if so.)

Epcot had it! And now I have it.
Thanks for posting that!
How is it?! You listening before seeing the film?

Yes, he seems to be just wondering why users aren't allowed to ask for leaks.

Awesome! Can't wait.

I went to a press screening.
Nice! And I second @Lewya's question: how was the score? I can handle "spoilers" about the music but I'm hesitant to venture into other threads out of fear of the plot being spoiled.

Ok this is very hard for me to say, but it was disappointing to discover that no new GREAT SW theme was added to the lexicon.
No big set pieces like DOTF of BOTH. No sweeping new themes like Across the Stars or Rey's Theme. But, like TFA, I have the feeling this one is going to be a grower once you hear the OST. There are highlights aplenty, for sure. So please, don't base all your hopes on one person's first opinion.[/spoilers]
SpoilerThat's totally OK with me; I wasn't really looking for anything like that anyways. Just want some good (complex) battle music, some loud brass stuff, some nice renditions of known themes, etc.

Did it overall leave a good impression on you? Are you excited to get the soundtrack album?
-
Could be. Rian confirmed they did do a new recording.

Read the rules.
You didn't stutter; I got it.

It's against the rules to PM about leaks? I thought only public (as in, threads) sharing of leaks was not allowed?

You just come across as a troll at this point. You’re randomly putting down a movie that hasn’t even come out yet, for seemingly no reason other than to be dramatic. “I’m in this forum thread because I’m not watching a movie.” Who says something like that? That seems completely irrelevant; you’re just being purposefully contrarian.

Well, I'll help you out then: since I've been here about 10 years longer than you have been, and given that before last week, I haven't posted about anything related to this movie and score for months, and given that you seemingly also can't see the difference between love and obsession because you can't see it's monumentally stupid to maybe lose a job over a soundtrack, the obvious answer is: it seems to you like I bash people loving Williams because it's in your head.
Not sure why how long you've been here is relevant. It's entirely possible for you to be a jerk/troll and be here for longer than someone who isn't. And I *am* obsessed with John Williams' music. Most of us here are... Got a problem with that?
And I also never said it's not stupid to lose your job over a soundtrack. Never once said that. Of course it's stupid. (But if someone else wants to be stupid and upload a soundtrack for the rest of us to enjoy, I'm not going to argue.) All I pointed out is that it seems just about every comment you make here is jerky/critical. It's a recurring theme in your comments.

I went to Target today and I was talking to my friend who works there and loves film music. He saw the soundtrack in the back today and is trying to sneak home a copy and put it online
Can you shoot me a message if he does?
EDIT: Just saw your follow-up.

What the heck happens at the end of the first bar? A bad edit? It's almost like bar 2 comes early/there aren't enough notes at the end of bar 1... There should be 6 sextuplets on beat 4 (like in beat 4 of bar 2), but there aren't... Sounds like 5, max. So it just sort of rushes into the next bar sooner than it should.

The more I listen to it, the more I think it might *not* be Williams. Something just feels a bit off about it. Seems to lack the complexity of TFA.

It does sound similar but I felt there were a couple small spots where I could tell it was a diff recording.
