Plus it sounds like it could really use a new master. Isn't this one of the most-complained about loudness war ones?

Ah. It took me some time to see if "wtf are you kidding me" came out as positive or negative. (Positive, apparently.) Sometimes when I'm navel gazing and thinking "How would I make the Animated Series into live action?" I realize the I would know what the sets would look like, I'd know how the actors would act. But I would be utterly out of my depth with the cinematography.

Balance of Terror stands apart a little bit even in first season TOS. It's very moody. This was a great quote from X: "Early TOS was like noir in color."

Oh heavens, yes. I love SNW. It's my second favorite Star Trek. But when they went back to Balance of Terror they went with the common conception of "Kirk is a cowboy who shoots from the hip". (I have since come to adore Paul Wesley in other episodes.) HOW can you do that Kirk in the very episode that has him going full Hamlet with Bones? "What if I'm wrong?" He's never a cowboy. Although he does decide that the Romulan vessel has to be stopped.

I always say that the two sides of the Star Trek coin are Balance of Terror and The Corbomite Maneuver. Or put another way The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

I received my copy today. Excited to listen later.

Daniel Schweiger's liner notes are excellent. His passion for the movie and music is really clear. Walker's cue is mentioned, too.

I'd prefer a reissue of Predator 2. Since I'd rather not pay $100 for the current one that's out of print..

For what it's worth, I find myself drawn to play The Legend of Zorro far more than The Mask of Zorro.

My answer to this question might upset some people: Alan Silvestri's Back to the Future. Most of it is the definition of generic, to me. I don't like the main theme which repeats ad nauseam. I don't find it remotely interesting or engaging. It doesn't receive interesting development, for the most part. The score works well enough in the film (it certainly doesn't detract) but I think it could have been a lot better. BTTF3 is the only one of these scores that connects with me more, because it's a western and has new thematic material and variety.

    But Varese already released that:

Since releases co-licensed from 20th Century Fox/Studios to any label stopped at the end of 2022, anything in the Alien/Predator franchise seems unlikely to me.

I did buy it yesterday!!  Alright it was last month, but still I haven’t even spun it yet, so if it’s Starship Troopers, you’re all welcome.

The credits suite is indeed really good. But assuming it's WLB and it ends up as a nice single $20 CD, I'll very likely get it even if it's just to curate a nice alternative playlist.

I'm less interested in whatever the other one is. I do have both Starship and AvP but I'm not sure enough to buy an inevitable 2-CD set.

It’s kinda Psycho with a full orchestra. If it is What Lies Beneath I’ll get it because it’s Alan Silvestri but I have to admit that the excellent 6 minute end credits suite covers all the best material in a fine concert arrangement.

Nor me - I actually had to check my flac archive to check whether I'd bought this at some point in the past, and I don't have it. I have two tracks that I must've obtained at some point.

I put on the OST on Spotify earlier and it was a kind of enjoyable half hour with a few proper highlights, so particularly as I never bought it, I reckon I'd be up for this.

The only titles Varese releases in their Club line these days are titles they own perpetuity rights to*.  They don't own perpetuity rights to Predator (and the Intrada edition is still in print), and they just Deluxed Predator 2 10 years ago

Here's a list of titles they own in perpetuity

    Ah. True then.

Yes, the score always gave me strong Herrmann vibes. It's a fine score and works very well in the film, from what I recall. But I have the old album and I don't think I need more than that.

You know what, with Alien day approaching and 4K release coming out next week I wouldn't be at all surprised. The previous expansion is over 20 years old now.

Varese never said "horror"; they said "scary" and I think WLB definitely qualifies there.

Huh. I'm not a big Silvestri fan in general but I really enjoyed this score in the film itself; he is channeling his inner Bernard Herrmann big time:

I confess I never bought the original Varese album, because it was one of those that was *under* half an hour long! So I'm interested in this...
