The word 'masterpiece' gets thrown around here way too often.

@Edmilson, you shouldn't have crossed out the last five words of your last post, as it's true.

The lesson here is: "don't worry, kids! You don't need to go to school! Why spend all those boring hours learning about mitochondrias, logarithms and sexual escapades of Henry VIII, then go home and, instead of having fun, just studying even more for the hellish tests you'll face on the other day? Why go to expensive colleges filled with even more boring tests, presentations, academic essays, etc., which, given the current economic situation, won't even guarantee a nice, steady job? All you need is to be a self made billionaire with a knack for business (and for fucking the competition)!

Why so many people hate Banning Back Home? It's so good! I listen to it and I'm immediately transported to the late 1980s/ early 1990s - and I wasn't even alive back then! A true time capsule of a very specific period.

I would just like to add that Williams's action music from 1989 to 1993 (i.e. between his "golden age" of 1977 to 1984 and his post-Lost World modern age) is very underrated. On this period we got "Escape from Venice", "Scherzo for Motorcycle and Orchestra", "On the Tank", "Belly of the Steel Beast", "The Land Race", "T-Rex Rescue and Finale" and, of course, "The Ultimate War". They're so fun and yet so intense!

Speaking of The Ultimate War, I can hear some echoes from it on The Phantom Menace, particularly "Anakin Takes Off in Spaceship".

I remember reading somewhere that Hans Zimmer couldn't read music... But that probably was just his haters. I mean, one of his cues is named "Too Many Notes, Not Enough Rests", so he must know what a rest is and why there's too few of them, right? Right?

    Hey guys,

Thank you very much for your interest in the articles and I'm really touched that some people are asking for them.

There are several reasons why the detailed analyses have been discontinued:
The organization of the concert in May 2022 that was broadcast worldwide on YouTube, the one with Spectral Shimmers and A Forest Passage, was a culmination for JHFM. It was the result of 4 years' work. Often after this kind of event, there's a bit of a lull. Life offers us so much to discover. Over the years, part of the team has moved on to other occupations, passions... Personally, I've been working on the book since March 2018. Ever since I met the composer's family and visited his studio. All my free time for almost 6 years has gone into this project. It's my main objective and so I've given up writing articles for the site. We liked to publish these articles exclusively, i.e. before you received the albums. To do this, you had to be warned of the releases and receive the albums in advance (or else write the article at top speed in 48 hours, but that's not ideal). Today, only one publisher allows us to do this, and asks me to check the content before publication.  I do this with pleasure and rigor, but the above-mentioned factors (lack of time, priority given to the book, small team of volunteers) prevent me from writing new articles. The book will be 1600 pages long, divided into 4 volumes. The first volume is scheduled for early 2024. Its aim is to bring together all known information on the composer's work. It's quite a challenge. Probably impossible, but we're giving it our best shot.

As for the podcast... it was planned, but once again the lack of time, of available people... prevented it from happening. I hope that the release of the books will be the occasion for several podcasts.

Yeah, but now I'm imagining what if they had released a Venom (the Marvel character) movie back in the 80s with a Kamen score. Would it have had an end titles rap song as ludicrous as this?

Wasn't much of a fan of that one. A nice theme but overall not exactly my favorite Powell animated score.

Rio was from the same year and was much better (and I don't say that just because I'm Brazilian lol)

Of course you are right. I just meant that I don't see a need for this kind of justification because in Germoney814's post I don't see any intention of exposing Williams as a plagiator.
And I find this similarity exercise especially interesting when they are found in very different contexts and this way expressing very different moods or tensions.

These two scores are nothing alike. Thor TDW is more noble and epic while TMNT is more balls to the wall and explosive fun. Both contain a lot of Tyler-isms though.

If you feel inclined, just try these two cues below:

You can skip this one to 2:50, it's when it gets really entertaining:

That would be Brian Tyler, who's got a bachelor and a masters degree in music and yet his music is okay at best.

Really? Do you have a source for that?

So if I show him something like this...

... and ask him to play in a piano or anything, he'll be like "duuuuhhh..."?

Is this why he has so many assistants? People who translate his synth demos into actual sheet music for the orchestra to perform?
